Re: Weghorst. I know fans are unhappy at him leaving, but my perspective is that if that’s what we agreed in order to sign him in Jamuary, we shouldn’t be annoyed at him for expecting us to honour it. And other players left for good, some on frees, yet we talk of them as heroes. At least he left the door open for a return.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 9:58 amIn addition, I'm confident that we could achieve promotion and almost certainly the Championship title too, without our buying anyone. If the Weghorst to Manchester United deal happens, then come June he'll be back in our fold, either to add to our squad, or sell on to fund a replacement striker that we do fancy.
I think he’s a very good player. 1 in 2 consistently outside of the PL, and let’s face it while he missed some sitters so did the rest that season - Cornet, Wood, etc. The issue was we were a poor team who didn’t create enough high quality chances over the course of each game.
With our new style and Benny/Zaroury either side of him, I think he’d do well and I’d have much more confidence about PL survival with an established international leading the line than a Surridge/Gyokeres. But I can’t see him wanting to leave United and return to us in summer.
My hope is it’s either a perm move now, allowing us to invest now for a promotion push, or if a loan there’s no buy option and he becomes a cult hero they have to shell out £20m for in summer
