In addition, I'm confident that we could achieve promotion and almost certainly the Championship title too, without our buying anyone. If the Weghorst to Manchester United deal happens, then come June he'll be back in our fold, either to add to our squad, or sell on to fund a replacement striker that we do fancy.
Re: Weghorst. I know fans are unhappy at him leaving, but my perspective is that if that’s what we agreed in order to sign him in Jamuary, we shouldn’t be annoyed at him for expecting us to honour it. And other players left for good, some on frees, yet we talk of them as heroes. At least he left the door open for a return.

I think he’s a very good player. 1 in 2 consistently outside of the PL, and let’s face it while he missed some sitters so did the rest that season - Cornet, Wood, etc. The issue was we were a poor team who didn’t create enough high quality chances over the course of each game.

With our new style and Benny/Zaroury either side of him, I think he’d do well and I’d have much more confidence about PL survival with an established international leading the line than a Surridge/Gyokeres. But I can’t see him wanting to leave United and return to us in summer.

My hope is it’s either a perm move now, allowing us to invest now for a promotion push, or if a loan there’s no buy option and he becomes a cult hero they have to shell out £20m for in summer :D

Not a Burnley rumour but I read that Todd Cantwell is being linked to Rangers. A good footballer who has clearly stood still/gone backwards over the last 18 months or so but I think he might only have 6 months of his contract left so will probably leave this month for a modest fee. I wonder whether that could be a clever bit of business for someone. We could do worse....

Leeds United transfer news: Georginio Rutter close to signing from Hoffenheim in club-record £35.3m deal

How can someone with a record of 2 goals this season ( in 17 games) and 11 in 64 overall be worth €40m. Think our scouts would find something similar for €4m (or less!)

Isn't he a winger? Not a chance he is getting a look in over Zaroury, Tella, Benson and JBG. Struggles to get in a poor Norwich team. Not for me.

imo far too light weight. He certainly has talent, but one good tackle and he goes back into his shell. There's a reason he hasn't been courted by the Prem, they can't all be wrong.

And its been the same under several different managers at Norwich, and also following his loan to Bournemouth (they did not want to keep him), suggesting he is not quite the real deal. Shame as he burst on the scene about 4 years ago, and you could have been excused for thinking at the time he was going to be the next James Maddison

Strange one Cantwell. It's not as if he is a fancy-dan who has a bad attitude on the pitch. His work rate is really good. Just seems to have lost his way a bit over the last few years

Can play wide but more of a member of a midfield 3 - same position as Brownhill I guess.

I don't suppose Kompany is after Cantwell, anyway.

Take it with a pinch of salt as it's Alex Crook but he just tweeted

'Understand #BurnleyFC have reignited their interest in Michael Obafemi. Fee will be much more modest than #Swans were quoting in the summer.'

Guess if we can get the fee below 5m we will have done well, given they wanted 10m in the summer?

Promising if true and we can get him at a knock down fee. Can't say for sure obviously but does rather suggest they're happy to let an unhappy player leave.

Not exactly lethal upfront but guess he's only 22. He should score more though with the likes of Brownhill, Zaroury and Benson around him.

Perhaps not done on purpose, but quite shrewd from Burnley. Registering an interest in the summer which gets him unsettled and leaves Swansea in a difficult position whether to keep an unhappy player or sell him for a discount price.

It appears Alex Crook has sources close to Obafemi.

If you look at previous stories relating to this player (Rovers trying to sign him from Southampton, Burnley and Swansea haggling in the summer etc) he has been one of the most vociferous Tweeter's on the subject. Must be close to either his agent or Swansea City somehow, so there is probably something in this.

Looking quite likely that he'll be joining then. I heard if we sign a forward, Barnes will be allowed to leave.

He's a very interesting one. Perspective from my Norwich supporting mate was that he was very talented but got a bit ahead of himself and demanded a move a bit too early. When it didn't happen he lost focus. Unsure if VK would want someone with those characteristics.

Interesting one this, there might be legs in it, as they are trying to get Joe Gelhardt from Leeds in on loan.

Sky now reporting a Championship side have enquired on Todd Cantwell
BHA have recalled Kedhra from SheffU and loaned him to Brum. He looked good at Rovers last season but hasn’t got going this year for me.
Could be SheffU after Cantwell as a replacement?

Tod Cantwell / Deli Ali

Suggest both have earned so much money at such young ages they have just lost their desire/spirit for the fight

Defo take with a pinch of salt, Alex crook who said Burnley where willing to let brownhill leave for free in the summer and didn’t realise the cornet you are not a loan joke

Pretty sure Rovers tried to sign Cantwell last year. As above a player who looked promising when he started at Norwich but has gone backwards as him potentially signing for Blackburn proves!

Just hope it’s not just a flattering highlights reel. A few comments that his first touch isn’t great and with our style we’ll definitely need that to be decent.

I would like to think Kompany has enough credit in the bank to be trusted with whoever he chooses to bring in this January.

Underwhelmed truth be told, appears to be two footed , not strong in air , has pace , passing a bit hit and miss . Some close control.
I get the Andre gray 11 bit, but can probably massively improve , wouldnt expect him to make an immediate impact

surely no one put's out a sales type video that is rubbish or just average??? I personally believe, but only from things I have read, that the continent offers better and cheaper options. Given our summer recruitment I'm sure they will be identifying and comparing players that can fit in with our style and the requirements without upsetting others. I'm just, like many, looking forward to the announcement video's :)

It’s mad how potential signings get wrote off before they have signed
We signed heaton from a relegated club, a arfield who couldn’t get on Huddersfield’s team and jones who was a free agent.
We signed nick pope and Johan from a relegated club
People talking about his attitude, tarky and Taylor both refused to play for their clubs to sign for us
Joey Barton prime example of a player nobody wanted to touch
If kompany wants him the from data side of things they must see something in him
From social media he looks to be very close to Tella so will have help settling in straight away

He has good movement in the box and with his pace off the mark he could be an astute signing with the crosses we are now putting into the box.

Kompany has surely shown us thus far to trust him r.e signings - if he’s Vinny’s man it’s good enough for me. Maybe Kompany has played against him when Obafemi was at Southampton and he’s stuck out to him?

In fact, yes - City won 6-1 but Obafemi got a rave review from his manager (Mark Hughes) after coming off the bench:

https://www.goal.com/en/amp/news/hughes ... 1mvqotc9pp

Little things like this might have stuck in Kompany’s mind.

Probably get Tella for a quarter of this price for this guy,Tella was excellent until being Ill ,and has only made a few cameo appearances lately,Obafemi could finish up like Trarore at Wolves ,too much upper body weight ,or too many burgers.

I sensed that his acceleration would be faster than Tella, not sure who’d win a foot race though.

He also seems to drop in to midfield, like Jay, although not sure his close control would be anywhere near Jays.

Probably get Tella for a quarter of this price for this guy,Tella was excellent until being Ill ,and has only made a few cameo appearances lately,Obafemi could finish up like Trarore at Wolves ,too much upper body weight ,or too many burgers.
Wouldn’t compare his body type to trarore at wolves if I’m honest and trarore is a prem player and when got a loan spell at Barca last season so must be doing something right

Nixon:

Burnley are backing away from a deal for Swedish centre half Albin Ekdal - leaving Dutch side Groningen favourites for his signature.

The Clarets were investigating the move for the Djurgaardens defender as cover but are unwilling to commit.

Ekdal has talked of the Burnley move but now Groningen are set to pounce for him.

The factors against the Burnley move are Ekdal’s lack of recent game time and the fact he would need to have a work permit taken to appeal.

Especially when she’s retired from football and is a tv presenter now!

Albin is his 33 year old brother who plays in Italy, I think, more lazy journalism.

Bristol City recorded a loss of 28m last year and 38m the year before.

It amazes me that clubs in this league are able and allowed to run at such losses, yet still demand these extreme amounts for players.
