Ellis Simms was playing well for Sunderland creating chances and scoring 5 goals. In early January he was recalled by Everton but he hasn’t managed to replicate his Sunderland form for them and score goals to dig them out of the mire. Sunderland now hopeful of bringing Simms back for the Championship run in.
He’s hardly likely to replicate that form, he’s played a grand total of 17 minutes in 4 games since his recall. The player won’t be best pleased being recalled and not being given a chance.

If we go up and Southampton go down then we'll be calling the shots.

Can't see Tella sticking around St Mary's where he's not rated by fans or management when there's a chance to play in the Prem at a club where he's loved by fans, management and teammates.

You give it a go, I periodically go on the Southampton forum & it's not just me who thinks like that it's been suggested by their own fans it's worth giving tella a try due to the success he's had here, but Jones knows best he'll be out on his ear shortly enough.
Go on any forum and you will find enough armchair managers to back most any opinion.
Don't you think that they would have recalled Tella by now if they thought him up to the task?

Not if they've got a rookie inexperienced manager in who doesn't know what he's doing, is there a recall option on tellas loan agreement? We aren't 100% certain about that so we are effectively talking about something we aren't sure about.

He's a bit more experienced than the fans on a forum.

Rookie and inexperienced at PL level but a bit soon to assume he doesn't know what he's doing, surely?
He was appointed on November 10th...

Not recalling Tella is fair enough. If Jones doesn't see him as right for how he wants to get out of the mire, then no point upsetting Tella by bringing him back and still not using him

What is crazy, is essentially saying in public "we've already got one player not good enough to do it in the PL (Armstrong), so there's no point having another (Tella)". Can't imagine either player is happy with the way this looks for them and it's not good for the bargaining power should Southampton want to cash in - buying clubs and player power will combine and potentially push the price down using this type of comment as fuel. Thus upsetting the board and the fans

Potentially good for us, but I would be miffed if Kompany said anything so ham-fisted as this about two of our assets

Yes Jones managerial acumen epitomizes the old school warrior managers such as Alex Ferguson & bobby Robson.

Let's have it right, he is a new manager at a Premier league club. He will know the budget and will want to maximise his chances of giving it a good shot. For him that will be bringing in players whom he know will fit into what he wants, not a young player that has failed at that level before. Managers don't care about saving the club 20 million and using a member of the youth academy and being financially prudent with the clubs coffers, they wanna stay in a job.

That is why he is not recalling him, he wants to force the clubs hand into making a signing that he wants

Bosnian isn’t happening from the looks of it.

Wonder if we have any other CM’s lined up, like we had a 5 man striker shortlist.

Good, if the wording is correct then the minute a player indicates he has other preferred options we should walkaway

I don't think it was looking likely with Hadziahmetovic anyway, so there are no surprises from me. If we've pulled out then we likely have other targets already in mind. Next!

He doesn't have a Scooby, boards are notoriously reluctant to spend money at the best of the times never mind in January he's not using something at his disposal which costs just a wage but wants the board to strengthen when it's looking likely they are going down, he's going to end up on his arse he was an uninspired cheap appointment amongst their fanbase to start with, if he wants to stay in a job trying to get the board to spend money when it's partly unnecessary is the last thing he wants to be doing.

At least if he's told us his intentions then we know where we stand, we aren't desperate for new blood like we were twelve months ago but ideally we don't have another Orsic scenario when we are shafted at the eleventh hour.

We have to plan on Jack Cork hitting fifteen bookings before the end of the season, which would see him missing another three games on top of the current suspension.

It's an account with 1.5m followers but it is a Turkish account focused on football in that country by the looks of it.

It doesn't have a direct quote but it states that the player has made it clear he only wants to play for Besiktas for ease of transfer - I have interpreted that as meaning - not having to move countries, and ease for relocation etc.

Whilst it's hard to say how much truth it has but it's not the first time we have heard from local media/accounts stating his preference is to be more local etc.

There are so many people involved in transfers, you don't know what is being leaked, or said to influence the situation either at a club or player level.

We might end up waiting until the summer for a centre mid. Brownhill and Bastien can replace Cork and we’ve a myriad of options for the number 10 position.

I wonder if Brownhill's adaptability dropping back alongside Cullen, the emergence of Twine as an option in the ten, and Bastien putting in a decent display against West Brom have made Kompany possibly think of leaving this till the summer. Cork, Bastien, Cullen, Brownhill and Twine is pretty bloody good for this level. It's a massive area for us though in the summer and our options could be far more numerous as a Premier League club - Sambi Lokonga from Arsenal seems an obvious link considering Kompany's history with him and his inability to get much gametime there.

My thoughts exactly. Twine and JBG can also play as a ten so there's no rush. Rather wait and spend 10+ if (when) we get promoted.

Real shame if true. Of my YT scouting this January, he was the one I have been most excited about.

But I’d much rather find out that he wouldn’t settle before he joins than after.

All the mention above is re Tellas pace, pressing and commitment. Not a mention of his finishing which is a long way above average. Who didn’t think he’d score on Friday night? I was applauding as soon as Anass played the through ball.

No, it just means that he is waiting for a better opportunity... If a top-half Premiership team, with much better wages (which won't be hard) and especially if they are an established Premiership came in for him tomorrow, he'd be off like a shot!

Besiktas don’t appear to have a pot to **** in, so their tactic for all their targets appears to be leaking that they “prefer” their club over anyone who else might be interested.

Presumably this plays well with their fans in the event that they miss out. “We couldn’t quite muster the fee, but we’re still a massive pull look”.

I wouldn’t believe anything the Turkish media put out. It’s all about massaging the egos of the big clubs.

Besiktas are a significantly bigger club than we are and are able to offer much higher wages. Pretty easy decision for him I would think. Combined with the fact he's currently based in Turkey, makes it a bit of a no-brainer.

Sure we have other options lined up and hopefully moving for them in the background

Surely not. In your eyes, if he had ambition he’d come to us. All’s well we’ve bagged ourselves an ambitious player.
Option 2: he goes to Beshiktas, displaying a flagrant lack of ambition (in your opinion), therefore we haven’t actually dodged a bullet at all because a player without ambition would never even have come to us in the first place!

If that move happens and Foster signs we will only have 23 players who are over 21 or loans leaving space for two more (assuming the Brentford lad goes back)

Re the Bosnian midfielder; I find it really strange that he wouldn’t want to come and play for a team that is almost certain to be playing PL football next season.

Maybe I am completely wrong but I thought most footballers wanted to play in the English PL and they saw this as the pinnacle of modern day football. For someone to want to stay and play in a second rate league in Europe instead of choosing to leave for English PL football is a little baffling.

Maybe he doesn’t believe he is up to it himself and likes to be in his comfort zone.

From the parts I've read online it seemed more his decision regarding his home life than the football. For some it's not always about playing in the best leagues, where your family is is just as important.

McNally close to joining Coventry on loan according to Pete O’Rourke. Decent move for him.
Excellent move. Hard to think of better - perhaps Swansea aside - provided he plays.

Any rumours about Dervisoglu? Seems pointless staying with us, and I can't imagine Brentford are too impressed.

Was thinking that myself, you’d like to think there’s been some sort of guarantee he will get a lot of game time or there’d be little point sending him there

The XG people didn't. They gave him a 3% chance!
Proof that xG is garbage.

Where have you got that from? FBref has it down as 0.29 xG

After watching their defending on Saturday I think he’ll be straight into the team! Think Robins will go back to his 3 at the back and play McNally as RCB, next to Doyle and Panzo.
