Is it not pretty obvious that we'll activate it (Beyer)? We'd be daft not to! It's definitely not Nixon's story this one. He's way late on it!

Oh yeah, I don’t really care about who’s said it, though there had been some mixed reporting with some noises in the German press there wasn’t any clause, this cast a bit of doubt lately.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 1:37 pmIs it not pretty obvious that we'll activate it (Beyer)? Unfortunately there is not.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 1:31 pmWould not shock me at all if there were similar clauses in Tella and Maatsen’s contracts. Their “spices” celebration is either a massive tease or a sign that they expect to sign permanently.
Any I imagine in summer that Southampton/Chelsea might’ve been open to decent sums for fringe players.

Re: Beyer
Think it would be brilliant business at the figures quoted, but also hard to argue he's worth much more than £5m or so at the moment.
Doing a fantastic job in a team walking the league, against mostly pretty average championship CFs. Can't wait to see how he (hopefully) gets on against the prem best.

Re: Beyer
That is an INSANE price, insane!!! If we had no fee agreed then I was genuinely anticipating us needing to fork over £12-15m (and I’d have done that in a heartbeat).
Potentially one of the greatest bargains ever for Burnley if so!

Re: Beyer
Less than £5m now does seem an insane price but remember when we took him on loan in the summer he’d been somewhat of a bit part player for his German side and hasn’t nailed down a position (he was played at RB and CB) or regular starting spot.
It’s yet another testament to the amazing coaching our players get now from Kompany, Bellamy et al that the price we agreed now seems like the bargain of the century so far.

Re: Beyer
When we consider Beyer’s struggles and Ekdal being something like 5th choice at his club before the last club (can’t recall the name), it doesn’t come as a surprise to me when we see these other European sides doing well in European competition. Maybe a German side isn’t the best example as they are a major nation but I do think English club’s players are overrated in comparison (the only reason we do so well in Europe is our biggest clubs have the finances to buy whoever they want).

100% agree with this. No doubt at all that English players are at a premium and many of them aren’t that great. I think part of the problem is the issue with needing a certain number of home grown/home nation players within English squads. Join this with the fact that all/most premier league teams are full of foreign players, and this has the inevitable knock-on effect of skewing the value of the limited number of decent young home-grown players.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Feb 19, 2023 6:07 pmWhen we consider Beyer’s struggles and Ekdal being something like 5th choice at his club before the last club (can’t recall the name), it doesn’t come as a surprise to me when we see these other European sides doing well in European competition. Thank goodness that we are finally picking up players from abroad and at a snip of the price compared to trying to buy similar from home. The only thing I would question is how much of this is down to the clubs scouting network and how much is down to VK’s knowledge of the Belgian league? Thank goodness for VK as far as I’m concerned!

Must be some seriously good work by the scouting team involved as neither Beyer or Ekdal have played in Belgium.

Assuming Beyer wants to join us, his parent club beat Bayern yesterday. He needs a song from us !

Re: Beyer
It sounds more likely that we had no buy option for Beyer, but have now created one after the Germans came to see him last week.
If those figures are corrected though, I'd be amazed. Seems very low for a player who has been integral to the best team the Championship has seen in a decade.

Re: Beyer
Again, we have to bear in mind that the premier league is a completely different beast to the championship and players that look far too good for this level might struggle a lot more in the higher league, and that will be reflected in the price

Re: Beyer
That's a given, but when somebody like Harry Souttar is moving for £20m with zero PL experience, then it's some deal. Agreed though that he was in and out of the team in Germany and it's us who took the chance with him.

We agreed the buy out option last summer when we signed him on loan. I know that for a fact but I don’t know what the fee was.
As I said I would not be surprised if it was that amount as that’s the most we were paying for players last summer.
It only looks an unbelievably good deal now after seeing him play for 6 months and us doing so well. At the time I’m pretty sure AP or VK could not have dreamt that we’d be this good or that Beyer would be so good. Clearly his German club did not think that either !!
He was presumably not really in BM’s plans for this season and no other club made the offer we did.

Re: Beyer
Steal of the century if true. Makes Michael Duff's bargain look expensive.
I thought we would take a long time to replace Mee and Tarks permanently. I run out of superlatives for Beyer, he's something incredibly special and if he had featured in more games would be my easy pick for player of the season. Everything started to click as soon as he came into the team.

Re: Beyer
I have loved watching him and think he should be able to make the transition to the Prem. My concern is that he isn't really big enough to be such a Rolls Royce in the league above so 4m seems about fair.
He's taller than Ben Mee and he did alright, so fingers crossed and, once again, I applaud the owners for striking deals. I doubt we'll lose much money on him.

Re: Beyer
Beyer, THB, Ekdal, Al-Dakhil and McNally doing a great job at Cov. We are blessed in CB department, and considering we lost Mee and Tarks, we could never have imagined it.
