They aren't in a great financial state either. They would probably prefer the European Super League idea.
Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Mail reporting Spurs’ interest in VK but also suggesting we are set to offer him a new deal.

You can be sure that if Kompany doesn't want the job, he won't be officially offered it. The relevant agents would have quiet words all round to avoid the embarrassment of being turned down.RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 18, 2023 8:17 amKompany set to reject any Spurs offer

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Top 6 clubs generally appoint a manager who has a proven established record in the top leagues of European football rather than give the role to a younger up and coming manager. Chelsea went down the route of appointing a manager who was unveiled as a “long term project “ but Graham Potter was “potted” after just a few months.
I looked on Oddschecker over the weekend and VK was a general 7/4 but now is out to 4/1 in places. Things seem to be heading in the right direction thankfully

Fabrizio Romano apparently says in his latest podcast that VK has held positive talks with Spurs. Not often he gets anything wrong but it doesn't seem like something VK would do without permission.

He might have permission, but it's my reckoning that VK has been nowhere near any talks with Tottenham.
Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Absolute b0llocks from Romano but he didn’t actually say it like that in his podcast anyway

Sounds like a cousin of mine. He nearly always wins on the Grand National. What he doesn't mention is that he backs half of the runners.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 9:24 pmNot often he gets stuff wrong, he deletes his tweets he gets wrong and names about 10 clubs who all ‘admire’ a player

Agree, he’s a bit of a fraud I think, everyone clamours over him but he often repeats stuff already out there… was massively wrong on Gakpo to Liv in Jan.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 9:24 pmNot often he gets stuff wrong, he deletes his tweets he gets wrong and names about 10 clubs who all ‘admire’ a player
On Kompany, just to add some balance, here is Jack Gaughan in the Mail (he’s City’s reporter so imagine some connections there) saying Kompany wants to stay with us:

Sacha has been spot on all season with his Belgian contacts, which is rather worrying

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
This is from Sacha Tavolieri. Belgian journalist who's been accurate with Kompany and our signings before.
"The connection between Vincent Kompany and Tottenham is founded and was undertaken by the Wasserman agency in contact with Daniel Levy who likes his unifying profile and his brand image in England with a style of play that would suit Tottenham's identity.
In case of arrival at Spurs, Vincent Kompany would arrive with his staff of 7 people and a hand on the transfer window.
For the moment, Kompany focus on getting more than 100 points in Championship with Burnley. VK was Chelsea’s plan B if not Pochettino."

I suppose the only bit there that is slightly comforting is the "in case of arrival at Spurs"

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Be pretty devastating if he left us now.
If it happens though, you’d have to hope it doesn’t drag on. Any planning advantage we got from an Easter promotion would be thrown out of the window. I’d imagine his presence is a huge part of efforts to persuade the likes of Tella to join permanently.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Unless I'm reading the article wrong, it seems to suggest that the agency were hired by Levy to contact Kompany
But the stuff about the staff he takes with him does rather suggest a bit more than contact unfortunately

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
I'd still be surprised if he went now I think, but whatever decision he makes he won't make it without thinking through the pros and cons, and Spurs being a complete basket case in need of a major rebuild is both a good thing (it might put him off) and a bad thing (he might see it as a chance to make his team)
Hey ho, whatever will be, will be
We still won the league at Ewood!

I’m assuming like VK did, all the coaching staff signed 4yr contracts,
That’ll be a fair chunk of money for Levy to payout on, if that’s the case

He’s still 5/1 if you want to stick a wedge on. Speculation is just something we’re going to have to get used to. Speaking to an agency is one thing but I’m pretty sanguine about it. Still think he’ll be here for next season.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
For me what Kompany represents is the hope that we might upset the odds for a season or two. I’m not talking European qualification, but with clever recruitment, maybe we finish midtable, playing attractive football and take a few scalps along the way.
There might be another manager out there who could also provide that hope, but it seems unlikely.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
When clubs such as Spurs can easily afford to buy players in the £30-40 (plus more at times) million price range then paying out for VK will be quite easy.

His agent has clearly been contacted and his agent has told spurs what he would want, I think it’s a case of if spurs get into Europe they will get bayerns ex manager, if they aren’t in Europe I think they push for Kompany and start again

He’s always spot on with Belgium connected news. Probably just putting the feelers out this stage so I just hope they go for Nagelsmann. Would be gutted to not have at least one season in the prem with VK.

Another way to look at this is that Kompany’s agent is planting stories to get him a better contract and/or bigger transfer kitty.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
It’s all a game unfortunately and the fans are the losers who never get certainty and often aren’t even given time to enjoy successes.
These elite guys will all have an army of advisors who will all be working semi-independently on their client’s behalf, from agents to publicists to lawyers and accountants. They will be busy little bees. Kompany is obviously in that elite category, as are the Premier League clubs themselves, including the Clarets.
So with varying news from the Belgium end and the UK Mail end, which both sound like deliberate leaks to me, I’m inclined to think this is all part of the game and soon, unless something strange happens, I expect a new contract to be announced for Vinny at Burnley, and maybe for some of the backroom too. I may be wrong, but I just can’t see him going, he would end up hated by many fans for leaving us in the lurch, look at Coyle, despised less than a year after Wembley and beating Man Utd, his star fell and now he is in some Scottish minor league. I think Vinny is too savvy to leave wreckage like that behind him because he knows he may need friends not enemies in the future.

Re: The Sun again - Kompany & Spurs
Not sure that mattered Billy. The thing for most of us was that Coyle leaving consigned us back to the wilderness after feeling we had finally made it back. OK, the silliness at Stadium MK was a bit annoying but it was the relegation that caused the long standing hatred, if we had somehow stayed up we may have moved on from it.
Anyway, one other unrelated thing I forgot to mention - not sure if anyone else has mentioned this but it was Frank Arneson who appointed VK at Anderlecht, who also of course worked for Levy at Spurs 15-20 years ago. However he left Anderlecht after VK had a poor first season. Not sure if that link will help or hinder but I found it interesting.
