I think Milner would be an outstanding signing,

Milner exactly the type of experienced workhorse player we need. Brightons a no brainer but he might not see much game time.

You'd surely think a good few more PL clubs would be interested in a player of Milner's experience.

Absolutely the sort of player we need to navigate a first season back in the top flight.

There will be a host of PL established clubs after Milner and would think he will want at least a two year deal
Those clubs would also include Leeds and/or Everton who would be able to match the wages he would be asking for
Seem to remember Klopp saying he wanted him to stay but if he leaves and it may be on a "free", but he will be asking a "reasonable" signing on fee as well as wages
Can we afford a substantial part of our budget (fee and wages) on an ageing player with no sell on profit as it no longer fits our financial profile

People who would have us sign Milner:
i'm interested in where and how (tactically) you see him being used in our best 11..

Would be an absolutely unreal signing for a year. We will be signing I’m sure the majority of our players in the 20-25 category and rightly so for our long term strategy, but what a pro to lean on for this squad. A leader, a fighter, a winner.

I think he’d be in and out of a starting line up, not in the team every game. I could particularly see him starting away from home next to Cullen as an additional shield in a three man midfield. Essentially a better version of Cork?

He can slot in multiple roles. Either a right midfield type role in a 4-4-2 shape or as an 8 in our 4-3-3 shape.

Would be need to be in our best 11? He wouldn’t be in Brighton’s best 11 either

But he’s still got an engine so could play as the inverted full back and play in a 3 with cullen and brownhill

I honestly can not understand this clamour to sign Milner. His future is already five years behind him, not in Burnley’s current set up.

Apparently Kompany has had a lot of "what if we get relegated" from players he has spoke to.

We just need one excellent signing to kick start a couple more I think, to signal that we're serious.

30 years old doesn't fit the demographic.
We're going to need some experience in the team so wouldn't be surprised if we brought in a couple of older players - especially on a free like this.

Interesting one! On the flip side, any player of pedigree is almost certainly guaranteed minutes. I'm obviously biased but I know what I'd prefer. :D

Benson, a relatively nobody in the BPL who Vincent has recently said was never given a chance or seen for what he is prior to coming to Burnley. No, No I don't think it took much convincing at all.

We have a super-fit young squad, another engine is the least of our needs.
I would actually like to know exactly where Milner (likely to be a high earner) is going to justify selection.

Kompany himself also talks about having to convince players to sign for us this coming season, so if people are saying they don’t want anyone we have to convince them we are gonna struggle to sign players

Then this is the story we need to be banging into the heads of prospective players. Looks like Benson was on course for a long journeyman career in the Belgian PL - now he's off to "the show" and is on target to make quite a name for himself.

I've never much looked into the rest of our lads but I guess they've probably all got a similar backstory?

But a completely different circumstance to recruiting for the PL.
Any player worth his salt should relish the opportunity to play in what is considered the best league in world football.

It still takes convincing for a player to sign for any club especially one who doesn’t pay silly amounts of money, anyone knows that.

A player from Denmark doesn’t suddenly think ‘yes it’s been my dream to play for Crystal Palace’ the club have to convince the player

Players at clubs like wolves, Brentford, Brighton, don’t sign new contracts because they want to stay there forever, they sign them so they have new release clauses in them

It kind of makes using VK's quote (if correct) pointless.
He said his new deal helps when trying to convince a player to sign, that’s still him saying trying to convince a player

Oh yes, I don't doubt it. let's face it, agents will be trying to do what they are paid for. It's all part of the process now.

Course they are, no player would ever just settle for what they have
There's a big difference between settling for what you have, and only wanting to sign for clubs that have zero chance of relegation. As has been pointed out, anyone outside the top 6 could go down.
Most players understand that and get on with the job.
Someone concerned about relegation is more bothered about himself than the club, we can do without them imo.

You’ve just said anyone outside the top 6 could go down, so by that theory anyone who signs for any club outside the top 6 could be worried about relegation

No, I'm saying good players just get on with the job, they don't think far enough ahead to worry about relegation.
It's all about mindset, and players who are concerned by relegation have the wrong mindset.

Of course players will want to sign for Burnley. Of course players want to play in the Premier League.

Surely all players have huge self belief. I don’t care if a player decides to sign for Burnley to show what he can do so he can get a better move. In fact, I’d be delighted if good footballers use Burnley as a platform to move onto bigger and better things!
