I guess you are on the wind up so shame on me for responding, but what part of this series has been 1 sided it has been a real contest from day 1. Yes the score line is 0-2 I get that but we could have won both tests probably should have won the first. We have gone big on dropped catches costing us plenty of runs and important ones Khwaja, Cummins in the first test and Marsh in this 1 stand out.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 3:01 pmIf it’s been so one sided all series how did one decision cost us the first test?

I do think it’s been a close series. It hasn’t been one sided at all.

Game drifting into boredom now.
Re: Ashes third test
I’m inclined to agree with you, however, having thought about this the last few weeks, I also think that from 1-11, they are simply better than us! Who gets in this Aussie side from our team? Stokes, Root, Wood? Can’t really think of any other player that would get in to their team, and I’m not convinced Root replaces Smith or Wood for one of their quicks?
With that in mind, maybe the thinking is, we have to go hard and aggressive, because conventional cricket isn’t going to get the job done?

I've got a ticket for tomorrow. I fear it could be a couple of sessions of them building up a big lead then an hour of England swishing and wickets falling. All interspersed by thundery showers.
Hope I'm wrong but it seems that is the way it's going.

In what way, based on the 2 and a half tests gone so far, has that SEEMED to be the way it's going? Every test has so far swung to and fro, one team on top, the other battling back to reassert - brilliance, drama, mistakes, skills - this series has had it all, with all 3 games so far very very tight.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 4:38 pmI've got a ticket for tomorrow. It's test cricket at it's enthralling best, a story unwound over many sessions and many hours of toil.
Enjoy it..... it might not be around for too much longer.

Based on how easy they are making batting look at the moment. Based on us being a bowler short. Based on our most potent bowler in the first innings looking innocuous by comparison.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 4:41 pmIn what way, based on the 2 and a half tests gone so far, has that SEEMED to be the way it's going? Is there anyone who still thinks it's OK to play a pub wicketkeeper in a test team. Apart from the England selectors.?
Re: Ashes third test
It didn’t help , that was the last test anyway .Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 3:01 pmIf it’s been so one sided all series how did one decision cost us the first test?
You think it was a good idea ? ,you think playing golf instead of practice a good idea , or not playing your best keeper , or promoting a young lad up number 3 destroying his confidence instead of the experienced players stepping up , or the captain bowling 14 overs on the bounce in the last test and now can hardly walk , anything else .

I don’t think we’ve made all the right choices no.
The argument I’m making is that we can’t possibly be in a one sided series yet we only lost the first test because of an early declaration, which is what you said.
You can’t argue both are true if you want to be taken seriously.
Just relax a bit and stop being so reactionary to things that go wrong.

Re: Ashes third test
Maybe this England team hasn't quite got the individual talent of the Australians but if you put both teams knackers on a weighing scale, England's would weigh more.

Four down - even the wicket keeper taking catches now.
Khawaja out for 43 and Aussies 90/4.

Re: Ashes third test
That's the problem with this Ashes, it's too one sided. What's the point of taking 3 wickets in an hour with them barely scoring any runs ffs. I've got a ticket for tomorrow, and i'm worried that even with the intermittent rain, I might not get a full day's play.... or something like that.

We lost the first test because Australia are better than us and helping them with the early declaration made no sense , just an ego thing from Stokes , much like bowling 14 overs on the bounceBordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 07, 2023 5:08 pmIt was the first test but anyway.

Re: Ashes third test
We only lost the first test because they scored an unbeaten 54 for the 9th wicket when the game looked won.
We deserved to lose the second test but gave it a real go.
This test is right up there with them and this third day has been enthralling.
