Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I wonder how much Palmer would cost to buy. I was discussing him with some City mates and they reckon his form has dropped drastically from when he looked so promising, you never know.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Might be an odd way of looking at it as well, but deadline is 1st Sept, Villa game is 27th Aug, which is our first winnable game now Luton is gone. Plenty of time and we did some good late business last year.
Genuinely not worried, our new model is to have plenty of targets, rightly see players a bit more as commodities, and let some of the other parties sweat as well. That's good negotiation. Not in the know on Genk / Saints / Metz / Millwall etc finances, but if one day you think you are getting £15m, and next day your not, if you need the cash you will drop your kex to a degree.
That's alot of money to all those clubs, I just think we are playing it smart.

Normally between 6m and 8m
Dealing with and English club instead of one in Europe 16m to 20m
Dealing with Man City 25m to 30m

Metz turn down E15m
The 22-year-old is reportedly courted by newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley FC, Serie A outfit SS Lazio and an unnamed German club. L’Équipe understand that Mikautadze allegedly dreams of playing for Lyon.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It's all about the sell on and the buy back. That's how, reportedly, we got Muric. PSG are buying back Xavi Simons after selling him to PSV. Buy back is "just" £6m. Would be considerably larger if it was a different buyer.
A lot of transfers these days, especially involving the "big" clubs, are better thought of as potential loan deals really.
It'd be a sum for Palmer, then add ons, a locked in buy back price or first dibs to match an offer if Burnley receive one.

Also saying on Sky we are considering going back in for Flemming (as are Lazio - I bet that's agent talk). Millwall want £13m though......

I’m not disagreeing on Palmer, but from the other 3 I think they can all operate in those positions mentioned and all rotate. Along with playing number 9 regarding Mikautadze.AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 11:02 amPalmer would be a cracking signing, he can play LW RW CM CAM links play and scores he's just the type of player we need to fill in a variation of positions
I’m expecting an exciting fortnight incoming.

I personally now regard Jay as being permanently injured or ill. and a bonus when he starts. You have to effectively write him off as a full time striker, meaning we need cover. A bit of a "Robbie Brady" in terms of absences/injuriesHedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 10:55 amNot overly bothered regarding Palmer but we have to remember that Jay is usually crocked for a long while as well and we have no idea wether Weghorst is staying or not. (I’ve noticed when you go on the website to personalise a new shirt his name and number isn’t an option) . We will need a good few in and obviously more quality. I think come the end of the window we will have spent a considerable amount of money.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
You can get carried away with a young striker on the fringe of the Man City team. I really thought we missed out on De Lap last year but he did not excel at either Stoke or Preston. I think Palmer has the advantage of more appearances for Man City first eleven but by far from being the finished product. Give me Tella any day

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
There a big difference between playing every game and playing 90 mins every game. Squad rotation is an essential part of VKs system, when you play at a high rate, you're going to need a break.
How man of City's players, start more than 22 games a season.
Palmer would be useful for his versatility. I'd prefer Tella on a permanent, but if we can't have him, Palmer isn't a bad shout. Not forgetting VK and Bellamys' ability to improve players from where they are.

Get the impression, at least 1 or 2 deals are done but awaiting players to return from holiday before announcement.

My biggest concern is a striker to replace Barnes. We don't know how Foster will fair in the Premier League and without Tella I think we'll struggle for goals. I think Mikautadze would be a good signing but if we can't get him over the line then I hope we have a;ternatives in place.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It was just strange Trafford being referred to as a Burnley player by journalists and commentators covering the European Under 21 Final whilst still no announcement from the club almost 10 days on.
The announcement, when it comes, will probably be greeted more with relief than euphoria judging by some of the comments on here.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
We've needed a striker to replace Barnes for about three years.

Agree. Whenever I read “set to” or “preparing” I switch off immediately.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 11:07 amI do find it difficult to believe as credible when it’s reported that any club is about to make a bid or another bid.
Why would the people who decide to make a bid, reveal that first to any third party rather than the club they are negotiating with ?
Only thing I can imagine is that it’s a done deal by this point and the selling clubs leak such information to make it look like they negotiated really hard.

If the rest of the summer we could end up with:
Trafford
Drameh
A left back (anyone’s guess)
Lokonga loan
Hamer
Tella or palmer
Flemming
Clarke
Id be pretty happy

That’s why I said I’d be pretty happy! could well be 100m overall spends but might only be 50-60m used this summer depending on how you work out instalmentsNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 2:02 pmWith this seasons going rates that would cost:

There's no way we will/need to pay £15m for each of Hamer, Clarke or Fleming. Max £10m ?
In terms of priority, we need a strong central midfielder, striker, Tella and Maatsen. The above named would be nice to have, but are not top priorities.

If you think we are getting any of them for 10m you are vastly underrating this market.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 2:23 pmThere's no way we will/need to pay £15m for each of Hamer, Clarke or Fleming. Max £10m ?

Didn’t realise Redmond was still only 29. Be a decent squad player for us.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Not sure about Redmond but wouldn't mind him as long as we sign at least 1 more winger such as Tella or Clarke.

We need better, Redmond is selective in his effort
Lots of games for Saihts he produced very little.
