Serious question.

Where is all this money coming from?
If you read Spirals post directly below yours, I was seriously wondering about whether we had agreements with City
Buy a 19 year old keeper for many millions but they’ll buy him back for more millions?

We seem to be fearlessly spending millions on unproven youth without seemingly need to cash in on our last crop.

Are City underwriting us in some way

I would guess that we are not paying these in full from the get go. They may be staged over a few years which would be manageable if we stay up or if relegated and have parachute payments. The latter I would suggest would mean the sale of some established players to re coup. For me it’s a comfortable position to be in with the calibre of players involved and the managerial team we have.

Ive seen that Sheff utd are in for Akpom from boro for a reported fee of £8m
Think if that went through it would reduce Boro's chances of threatening for promotion and likely to upset Carrick. However he would be a great replacement for Ndiaye

I don't even know if we broke a net positive spend last summer. Under FFP you need to break even over a consecutive rolling three year period, so if you take the sales of Wood, Collins, Pope, McNeill and Cornet just from the last 18 months, we've brought in about double on those five sales alone what we spent last summer. If you add Foster, Ekdal and Al-Dakhil from the winter window coupled with a dramatic reduction in the wage bill you're probably looking at us still having a negative net spend over the last year or so, so those sales have basically bought us a few years of big spending where we can borrow borrow borrow, sell sell sell, still fall well within FFP, and if we're comfortable in the PL this season, chip away at the debt pile when we have seasons where fewer incomings are needed because the squad is already built and full of still-young players appreciating in value. All relies on us being a PL club for it to work well of course.

Akpom has been around for a good few years and apart from last season hasnt done a great deal...not entirely convinced he'll cut it at Premier League level.

Just asked my Danish pal about Daramy, he says he thinks he has the potential but doesn't see him as a Premier League player right now.

He also mentioned Peacock-Farrell kept a clean sheet in their European game this evening v Club Brugge but they were knocked out.

With all these attacking players joining us ,and with still 4 weeks of the window open, I suspect Rodriguez, Twine, Cork, JBG, Bastian.Weghorst, Obefami (when fit) and a few others will be fearing if they are going to get any game time

I can only assume more loans. Unless we have suddenly found a multimillion pound investor that can throw 10s of millions at it.

Could be a bit of a bet the ranch play.

At this point all we can do is enjoy the ride and hope everything works out

That seems to be a definite trend in the players we're signing. Similar thing was said by a Swiss football expert about Amdouni (IIRC the bloke said about 5 goals and another 5-7 assists would be considered a good season for him), it's definitely true of Trafford, Koleosho is very inexperienced in football in general. You could even say the same for Foster, Al-Dakhil and Ekdal if you consider the three of them to have been signings made with the intention of them being in our PL team, i.e. we were very confident of going up and fully expected them to be able to step up. Kompany must believe he has his philosophy, his management and coaching techniques down to an absolute science to have the confidence to go with such raw players (this also stretched back to last season) because he seems to completely rejected the idea of needing experience in various different positions on the field. Our general business makes the Redmond and Townsend free transfers look very important.

Can add Larsen to that to, signing players who at one time where highly rated, they might just need the right club to let them reach their potential

I for one would be very disappointed to see him leave rather than be our starting forward. But Kompany's preseason selections make me pretty confident he won't be kept around or featured. Think he's likely 4th choice atm behind Foster, Amdouni and Jay.

I think I saw something somewhere around the time we signed Foster that earlier in his career he was in and among those lists that predict the future hottest talents in world football when he first broke through, surrounded by some players who have gone on to win major honours. Can't find the article, but he was definitely there. I'm talking like Vinicius Jr level of players who went on to big things.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I learned that Troyes where we're getting Odobert from are a part of the City group. It's pretty clear that City are happy to use Burnley as a sort of finishing school with all the connections, the manager, the two GK's, THB, CJER, the links with Delap last year, some other fringe City players this summer. There's clearly lots of communication between the two of us. Wonder if this City-Burnley link has influenced the Odobert deal.
I’ve been thinking about a few of the City connections, over the last few weeks, as well.

I think we’re all expecting Kompany to end up there, and quite possibly, directly from Burnley.

Perhaps I’m being overly cynical - I just have a nagging concern that a huge amount of what we are doing, and how we are doing it (playing style, players bought, borrowed and linked and the deals made) is ultimately to the benefit of City.

I’m in no way ignoring what we experienced last season and I’m hugely looking forward to this one. The concern I have is what the plan is post Kompany.

Whilst it may be a year or two (hopefully more) away, it’s going to be a huge upheaval when he goes, potentially far more so than when Dyche departed. Pretty much every signing we make has said that they’re here because of Kompany.

Clinging on to City’s coat tails could be an astute strategy for now, I just hope that there’s a longer term vision too.

Rather a negative concern - hopefully I’m putting two and two together and coming up with six!

I just hope our final few signings are players that will improve the starting 11. Lokonga would do this I think, but will this winger from Ajax?

I'm a little worried so far on that front, especially when you consider the fees we've committed to.

I think we need some more "solid" additions and fewer speculative maybes now.

He was 17 at the time. There's a few big names on there (Haaland, Hudson Odoi, Sancho, Vinicius in particular), but also a lot of unknowns.
The Guardian's prospects list has always struck me as a bit "went through the under-18s on FIFA and picked the top OVRs" to be honest, but he was certainly rated enough to be signed by Monaco at 19.
Highly regarded youngsters who've lost their way and need a boost is a model we've had for years, honestly. Under Howe to a degree and before the money ran out under Dyche it was a big part of our model there- Vokes had been highly rated and went on to be good for us, Trippier & Mee weren't good enough for City at the time, ditto Keane with United, Pope was tipped as one to watch at Charlton before they got relegated, etc.

Found it. He's (Foster) in this list from 6 years ago along with Haaland, Vinicius Jr, Hudson-Odoi, Sancho, Ferran Torres. Some mad company to be keeping that is.

Give Gundogan a bell and ask if he fancies managing a mid table premier league side.

Newcastle have spent the best part of 200 million on

Sandro Tonali
Livramento
Harvey Barnes
Anthony Gordon

Absolutely staggering

Genuinely believe (bar Tonali) you can pull any players as good as them from any of the top leagues in Europe for 1/4 of the price

This is the main thing that people still can’t seem to grasp.

When we look at players that may have not lived up to their potential in other teams doesn’t mean that they won’t for us.

I know one Ajax fan, I asked him and his reply 'He is a good player but has not played much in our first team, huge potential though'

Imagine you're a left back and you have to try and handle Kieran Trippier and Manuel Benson laying you on your arse every five minutes. I think I'd just retire.

Found it. He's (Foster) in this list from 6 years ago along with Haaland, Vinicius Jr, Hudson-Odoi, Sancho, Ferran Torres. Some mad company to be keeping that is.

Only recognise 3,or 4.

you've only got to look at the improvement in Barnes, Cork, Brownhill and JBG last season to see that VK and his coaches know what they are doing
You can look at that two ways though

Playing a system where everybody shows for the ball, all the players you mention proved they could play a better style of football very well
Conversely they played in a team with better players than the teams they were up against in a lower standard of football
So you could argue that they could slot in individually at city or Arsenal etc in the prem and contribute
But can they do it in this system if we’re weaker than other teams in the prem again
So yes they were all great last season compared to the season before but in a lower league with better players around them in relation to that league

Even if VK were to go straight to City as long as he has left on good terms, and I can’t see why he wouldn’t, the business between the clubs could continue.

Willian has agreed personal terms with Saudi side Al Shabab, told Fulham he wants out.
He signed a new contract yesterday, according to Sky.

Would Kompany want to be the guy to try and replace pep, can see someone else attempting to replace pep, failing and then they turn to Kompany

Given how little he has played for Ajax l, not sure how they can form and opinion.

Hard to predict who’ll we’ll sign. Seem to be spinning a lot of plates. Wouldn’t be surprised if half the stories are smokescreens we’ve created.
