I know they do it for European games, but I've met United fans before games at turf moor, and they've never had to collect tickets. Perhaps the person was picking up a reprinted ticket, like our fans do if the post didn't work?
A certain percentage of Man Utd fans are chosen to collect tickets personally for away games with photo ID.
This is to try and stop their fans from buying away tickets and selling them on, and not actually attending the games themselves.
The fans who need to collect personally are chosen at random so if you are buying tickets for Man Utd away games you are never sure whether or not you will need to collect them on the day or whether they will be posted to you.
The FA have a similar system for England away games with a 100% collection policy for members who qualify for away tickets.
For example.....I was in Poland at the weekend for the Ukraine v England game, I knew that I was guaranteed a ticket which I had already paid for but had to collect it prior to kick off. The FA had a collection office set up at a hotel in the city centre of Wroclaw, tickets were available for collection on Friday the day before the game and on Saturday the day of the game.
You have to personally collect your own ticket with photo ID, you cannot collect someone elses ticket on their behalf.
The same thing applies for England's game in Glasgow tomorrow night, England have an allocation of 2,900 tickets and everyone has to collect their ticket from a city centre hotel either today or tomorrow before kick off.
The home teams do not facilitate this for the FA, they organise it independently just as Man Utd do for their fans.
It would take up quite a lot of time for Burnley FC staff to do something like this for our away games, not to mention the financial costs involved.
Anyway would it be really necessary when a lot of our away games don't sell out anyway?
