I always find it surprising how few actually care about such thingsClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 2:39 pmIt's a while ago now - I think it's shocking. That's a title that has always been used as a special recognition. When I first started going it was James Grimshaw who I think had previously been chairman. Then it was Doc Iven given his years with the club as club doctor and director and finally Jimmy McIlroy for the most obvious of reasons.
Then, all of a sudden, Stuart Hunt becomes president.

Re: Pre season tour
The title is just an americanism. In the NBA, most teams (or franchises to give them their correct title) have an owner, then a President and Vice President of Business Operations and a President and Vice President of Basketball Operations (think Director or Football/Sporting Director) then a General Manager then Head Coach. Similar goes for NHL and NFL.

But what if disregarding the history of the football club for "just an americanism" is actually bad? Could this attitude have other implications?

Quite. There are a few fixations held by some people on here and while sometimes understandable to an extent, it does veer into self-parody at times.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 12:21 pmMaybe because in the context of wider life it really doesn’t matter.

Problem being though for someone who spends a lot of his spare time investigating the owners in a desperate attempt to find some wrong doing, be involved with people who both contact MP's demanding they get answers from the club as well as FOI's being used for accounts matters anything to have a pop at the owners can't be missed.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2024 12:21 pmMaybe because in the context of wider life it really doesn’t matter.
It comes as no shock that those offended by this title dislike the owners.

Yes, that was a shocker.
Really hope the club announce it properly and give us time to make proper plans. I’d have gone to a few last time with more notice.
Re: Pre season tour
100%, I would’ve done the Mainz game had I not already booked Genk. Hopefully we announce them together so fans can choose & book flights/hotels at the earliest opportunity

Re: Pre season tour
How would Dave Burnley know anything and why would the club give him the heads up! Germany and Belgium would be most people's guess anyway as Ireland was with SD. Don't forget Mr Burnley missed a game in 1974 at Newcastle because the club didn't tell him or answer the phone in time when he was ringing up. My guess would be Germany and Belgium.

Yep, unfortunately for me they just fell at the wrong time for work but also remember looking up the prices and thinking how much cheaper they’d have been with more time to plan and prepare. Let’s hope the club do the right thing by supporters this year.

Really hope we don’t come out to the USA for what will almost certainly be a cringey marketing exercise.
Better some decent warm-ups at home and in Europe that the fans can attend/make a trip out of.

In 7 weeks it's 1st July and probably the start of pre-season. They need to be getting a move on announcing any tour!

I’d prefer it if they even released provisional dates for games and the intended country, even if they can’t confirm the exact details. They could update it as matches get confirmed but at least you’d be able to research and plan around which you’d like to attend.

I’m looking forward to this too.Fretters wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:45 amI'm looking forward to TST. I'd never heard of it, but was listening to Lee Trundle on Undr the Cosh last Friday. He was talking about it as he plays for Wrexham in it.
It's an interesting concept as every game goes to extra time. If the leading team scores one more goal in ET then it's game over, but the losing team can keeping scoring until they've won. It stops teams from shutting up shop during normal time.
Will be good to see JJ and Kealia play football in Burnley colours, plus having some lighthearted fun football to watch after an intense season.

I guess it depends how the club see pre-season. Its its purely a fitness / team bonding exercise, they may well see fan attendance as an inconvenience

Re: Pre season tour
It's a shame the preseason fixtures were announced so late last summer. I think this was down to other teams cancelling and concerns around fan safety for certain games which involved liaising with police etc amongst other reasons. I don't envy the task of arranging international fixtures.
Let's hope they're announced sooner this season. Would be quite keen to get to a match in Europe.

Flights from Manc - Cologne were £102 including the 'seat fees'.
To Frankfurt/Stuttgart they were roughly £200/£250.
For sake of the price...I've took the gamble! It'll either be Hoffenheim away or a random weekend in Cologne
