And last season we broke club records for most games scored in a row?dsr wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 8:08 pmAnd yet ... compare the crowd reaction to a scruffy own goal to the crowd reaction to a sweeping 25-pass move that finishes back with the goalkeeper. Few of us were entertained by Burnley's supposedly attractive play last season. Good luck to those who were.

I thought that our style of play, had it been more consistent, would eventually see us as a very attractive side to watch. Very good in patches, pathetic sometimes... but one can always hopedsr wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 8:08 pmAnd yet ... compare the crowd reaction to a scruffy own goal to the crowd reaction to a sweeping 25-pass move that finishes back with the goalkeeper. Alright then, how many times did you say that this season then? Can't have been many.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 8:04 pmFootball is labelled the ‘beautiful game’. I guess it depends on your interpretation of that? For me it involves aesthetically pleasing football, you know, where you turn to a mate and say ‘woah that was seriously good football’. When the ball bypasses the midfield frequently and you are playing on %’s and for set pieces then that beautiful aspect gets lost. Cruyff’s total football, Brazil’s world dominating teams, Spains back to back Euros - World Cup - its nothing new.
Then I guess the argument why people want to see it more now is for entertainment, given how much it costs to get to games now? Spurs went from Pochettino’s high intensity, fast flowing attacking football to Mourinho and Conte sitting on 1-0 leads and stinking the place out. Interestingly both of the latter two aren’t up to much these days…
Brazil's style is also completely removed from the Pep/VK school of thought. Pep is a defence first control/suffocate the game manager. He plays utterly boring football.
Remind me how many trophies those great Dutch teams won?
As always when you debate on here, you select the smallest/biased sample size possible to prove a point. Football to me is about winning, playstyle is secondary.
You think Mourinho has always played boring football? Or is it just when he think his side isn't good enough to dominate a game and win regularly in that way he'd prefer to be a bit more cautious?
One of the greatest ever goals and performances at the Turf came from Mourinho's Chelsea at the Turf - that Schürrle goal and Fabregas assist was absolutely brilliant.
What would you have had him do as Inter manager when playing Barcelona in the UCL final? Try and take them on toe to toe and lose 'playing the right way' so he can get metaphorical ruffling of the hair and a 'good job' or soak up pressure, play on the counter with some precise, dynamic play with Militao, Eto'o and Sneijder and win the frigging cup?
I know what I'd want.
Just win baby.

Re: Kompany to Bayern Munich?
Pundits have said all season he’s only playing a certain way to appeal to other clubs not to try and get us to win and manage a game it’s not a surprise if anything it’s a good thing they haven’t given him anymore money
Recruit a new guy who can put his arm around the quality players we have and get them motivated ie benson, zaroury Ramsey/koleosho when they are back and forget him
Let him discard muller and Kimmich and neuer and become the most hated man in Munich
If he stays it’s the same old question everytime a prem manager gets sacked rather not have him

Won’t quote the whole post as we are digressing a bit, though it’s a topic that deserves a thread of its own at some point

In other news it seems Kompany has gone. TurfCast suggesting he’s said goodbyes today and we are getting £20m+ compensation.

4 years left on a bumper contract. Probably about right around 20 million. Scary times ahead with yet another full rebuild of the clubs infrastructure before August. Robins is the name I’ve heard the most and the wheels are already in motion.

Re: Kompany to Bayern Munich?
Over the moon if its true-my perceptions about him were spot on. To think I got hammered on here about being unkind and disrespectful about him immediately after relegation following his interview. He does not care a CASTLEMAINE 4X about the fans. His interviews for the last few games were designed to totally deflect criticism about him. Then you get someone like Rob Edwards big enough to speak and say he takes part of the blame for not staying up. I know who I would rather be in the trenches with

Everton are a big club but its not a massive job like Newcastle is under the Saudi's and like Bayern is and always will be. I think Dyche deserves a shot at a big job but Im not convinced he has that X factor like Kompany and Howe have to manage at the very topboatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 8:35 pmMight as well include Dyche to Everton, that's a big club.
