Kompany showed his loyalty last summer after promotion, what did that get him in return?

He was being slaughtered by certain fans 5 games later….. 5 games it took for NewcastleClaret to start. I’d leave too if I was him, there’s zero loyalty from fans in this game but they expect it from players/managers.

News #Kompany | Negotiations ongoing between Bayern and Burnley with Bayern‘s decision not to spend the €20m transfer fee demanded!

Kompany, NOT in Munich right now. Still waiting for the 🟢 light to join Bayern.

You have absolutely no idea what Kompany planned to do, he said he planned to stick around (pre Bayern interest) and he’s proven to be a well spoken man of morals so I wouldn’t question him on that.
Don’t fret yourself VK and his advisors were touting him around before the Bayern interest. He was even being linked by the BBC and other media outlets with Brighton and Chelsea.
Earlier, you stated that Kompany had shown his loyalty by remaining with Burnley after promotion from the Championship. Well, he had signed a lucrative 5 year contract and had repeatedly talked of buying into the “5 year project”. So, surely, any “man of morals” would have continued to honour the terms of the contract. No need to play the loyalty card.

Few people are considering the possibility that VK would fail to be in the top 2 next season and we couldn’t afford to sack him on that contract. A manager gets tarnished at a club, a relegation can do that, no guarantee at all. The damage was done back in the last summer window by not hitting our main targets. We now need to move on and start again, presumably from a more stable financial position to a degree.

To be fair, the same used to happen to Dyche when he was here. He got linked with nearly every PL job that came up, even some Championship ones too, despite us being in the PL at the time.

Bayern have offered €10m compensation for Vincent Kompany but Burnley are demanding €20m.

1000000% agree.

He won us the title at Ewood for christs sake. That's a once in a lifetime opportunity for a claret.

This is in no way a sour taste like Coyle's departure was. It's a very unorthadox situation that has occured and they see something special in him as well all so. We know his is probably about 5 years too early to know what success he is going to have in his managerial career.

Ultimately, if he didn't get off to a great start in the Championship, we've been paying him 2.5 years wages + another managers. This way we are quids in, a new manager gets a full preseason to build and we have a very decent squad for the Championship with 15-20m in the bank for this. We all win.

Good luck Vinny, thanks for the (mostly great) memories, onwards and upwards. UTC.
This is exactly where I am with it. I wanted VK to stay this season but if it's not to be so be it. I feel we are in a much better position than we were two years ago. The negative ones on here were bleating that we were going straight back down through the leagues, some of the lesser neggies were predicting a mid table at best finish with a chance of a play off place.

The football in the championship that season was some of the best I have ever seen us play. Thrilling to watch! Last season was poor but again some are saying it is the worst they have ever witnessed. Bloody hell it really wasn't. We have a huge squad with lots of saleable assets. Trim that and you still have a more than competitive Championship squad. New manager? - we will have plenty of options. A lot of you wanted change at the top. You got it with 17 m euros as a bonus.

Good luck Vinnie - you gave us some great memories but your were also a stubborn ****!

The future is bright, the future is Claret

If it all collapses (unlikely) Kompany will have lost the respect of the fans, investors and players, his loyalty will be brought into question by other clubs as well. He will have to partially buy out his contract because he really is dead man walking.

In the highly unlikely event the Bayern deal does collapse, I can't see him sticking around. His agent has clearly been pimping him out, another club will eventually come in and he'll go. Be this Brentford, Brighton etc he clearly wants another opportunity and the bridges will be too far burnt for him to continue his time at Burnley.

The way Pace has been talking about Kompany since he arrived, he'll probably kiss him goodbye on the way out.

I’m pro-Kompany, but I’m hoping he goes now.

You only have to read this thread and twitteclarets to see there’s a lot of feeling against Kompany. It’s misplaced in my view, but it doesn’t really matter what I think. There’s going to be a weird atmosphere if he stays now and I’m not sure it’ll be healthy.

Football fans are short sighted but I think some on here are blind or have amnesia.

Some on here who were banging the drum that was we should have got rid of him months ago (at a massive loss to the club) are now saying hes not loyal when hes been approached by a MASSIVE club and we get a huge paycheck from it.

People failing to see we actually benefit from this bizzare decision from Bayern to go after their 4th choice in manager.

It's like a Wout Werghorst "damned if you stay, damned if you go" scenario just this time with a manager.

I have no issue with him leaving, not would I do with him staying either.

Some on here doing some mental gymnastics which are Olympics worthy. I'll drive you to Paris myself

I didn’t criticise Kompany in the championship when we were winning, just last season on our worst ever season statistically. That’s fair don’t you think?

I could give you several names but I’ll plump for mark robins.
Done a good job in difficult circumstances at Coventry and should be in the cup final really

Yes he is unlucky not to be in tomorrows FA Cup final.

If he was to be appointed as our new manager then please cut him a bit of slack if things dont go too well for him at times.

Would you rather manage some of the best players in the world and be part of Champions League football next season or go through the ringer of the Championship again and travel to Oxford and Portsmouth away etc.

It's an absolute no brainer for Kompany. The amount of VK out posts this season then people being bitter that he is going now is hilarious.

I'm hoping that there might be a clause in VK's Burnley contract, that says that if he or his people speak to another club without Burnley's permission, that would constitute a sacking offence and no compensation will be paid to sacked manager.

When you left the Premier League in search of easy trophies only to find yourself being managed by the Burnley manager who got relegated 12 months later…

I've got to be honest. I'm not disappointed in the slightest. And the 15-20m compo fee is a good number.

Kompany lost me this season with his refusal to change the side and the final nail in the coffin was him bringing back Muric and Cullen and them performing. I'm not giving him preps for him bringing them back for the final ten games when the fan base was calling for it after about ten games.

For me. Bad management badly hindered our chance at survival. And he would have learnt absolutely zero for his next crack at the prem, just too stubborn. Good luck to Bayern.

The reason some wanted him to go months ago is because it was a chance at Premier League survival and at the time we were absolutely dreadful and not even competing in a lot of games. If he went then it's a chance to try and remain in the Prem, whilst also having the draw of a new manager coming straight into a team playing in the top flight.

The difference now is that the club and majority of fans stuck by him, despite the failures and the squad mess. We are now in a lower division, so less pulling power for a new manager and it was clear to most people that he was obviously touting himself around via his agent. He clearly had no intention of repaying that loyalty. Obviously he isn't going to turn down Bayern. I imagine that's where the disappointment comes from.

100% this. Much like general life now, the views on here seem to be more extreme one way or the other.

It's kinda neither here nor there in the end, but i think he's probably got a fair number of the attributes required to really be a top manager.

I can't get away from the view that he generally did give me probably one of the top three seasons of being a burnley fan over the last 30 plus years. Probably his longevity puts dyche top of my list, but Kompany is up there in second place :D

It’ll be 15-17 million euros

It needs to be £20million if that's what we are asking, nothing less. Test their desire to employ VK.

I was content for Kompany to get a few games in the Championship next season to check if my opinion of him as a busted flush was proven.
His jumping ship without Burnley having to pay compensation is a great result as far as I am concerned.
It would be very strange for a man with such self belief to turn down an offer from a huge club like Bayern - the chance may not come again.

Thank you for a great season in the Championship.

His refusal to change failed tactics, his strange substitutions, his undroppable favourites, his preference for defenders as wingers (when he bought so many wingers!) and his tendency to play players out of position when he had better alternatives on the bench had already convinced me that he wasn't good for us. He may have got another promotion but imho had shown no ability to adapt to the requirements of the PL (where the Clarets belong).

Good luck to him in the future - I just feel sorry for Harry Kane.

Totally agree.

Take the €13 they are offering but ask for a couple of players on loan for 12 months too

So long as they agree to take our set-piece coach as part of the deal, I think anything above £15 million compensation would be decent.

We have too many players already.
Perhaps get Bayern to take a couple of ours for their reserves :D Save some wages.

BBC seem to think that Craig Bellamy won’t be going with VK!

Caretaker for us maybe?

It’s important we don’t scupper this now just get him gone for £13m or whatever they are offering.

Last thing we want is him in charge of our pre season when his head is elsewhere.

No. That's too weak.
We hold out for our valuation. Obviously they will try to lower the price but balls to them.
also VK has made his decision now so that outcome is no longer under our control.
