It did sound and read very Londoncentric didn't it?

Ah right, so nearly getting promoted from the Championship and a couple of promotions with by far the strongest sides in the league is the target?bartons baggage wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 5:40 pmhttps://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/28386546 ... tt-parker/

Re: Next manager
Terrible Sun article by a poor journalist.
I know Parker was poor in the Premier League but he knows how to get a team out of the Championship. So similar to VK but he might have learnt something and be less stubborn. I’d prefer him to Lampard.

Cifuentes will be announced on thursday because the club always announce new managers when the date has a 1 in it.

Re: Next manager
What would people think about Patrick Viera as our new manager.
I watched him on the overlap today and he impressed me how he wasn't phased about anything. Lots of banter and questions about him and Roy Keane. He didn't shirk any.
Plenty of guests in the TV studios are overawed by Keane.
Big name, managerial experience in several countries.
Top level player and serial winner.
French speaker.
Unlucky to get sacked at Palace.
Currently in a job so would be compensation to pay.

The problem we have got is selling a second tier football club managerial post in an old fashioned cotton mill town in a dreary East Lancashire to reputable candidates.
I mean, come on, they're are lots of similar positions in a lot more desirable parts of the country. We shouldn't be setting our expectations too high really.
We're Burnley, not Bayern.
Sorry but the truth hurts sometimes.

Unlucky? He was sacked going 12 games without a win and 3 points above relegation. Hodgson took over after the transfer window had long ended and got them to 11th, above Chelsea. He paid €53-63m for a bunch of 20 year olds at Strasbourg and they also had a long winless run and finished 13/18th, 12 pts off Europe 10 off relegation, as decidedly lower-mid table as it gets. He was an elite player, better than Keane by far he's not overawed by him because they were rivals, but so far he's not done anything as manager. Big name and focuses on youth so checks those boxes, but any sort of managerial pedigree, no. We can't just go for someone because they're a famous player who signs youngsters because they're still pretty young too. May as well name Defour if we're doing that, and I love Defour but you get my point.
Parker wouldn't fill me with a ton of excitement, but he does have reasonable pedigree, especially for the environment he'd be inheriting- a strong, recently relegated, reasonably favoured team. Wouldn't say I'd be confident of winning the league, but you'd figure we ought to bounce back. I have to admit I still skew Moyes, but Parker could work. I see the temptation in a leftfield gamble like Kjetil Knutsen or Will Still but I'm not sure we're in a position to gamble. In terms of squad strength, you'd say we might be, but given how volatile the finances seem to be by the auditors report, we need to bounce back.

Re: Next manager
You don't have to live in the town centre to manage the club, and as someone who doesn't even live in Lancashire anymore I'd say the Ribble Valley and Pendle Hill beat the interchangeable metropolitan dross of most city areas. Not to mention the fact the manager would be inheriting a club that's spent 8 of the last 10 years in the PL, 1 in Europe, and bounced back as Champions the 2 outside the Prem, and an on-paper strong squad, that on paper is brimming with youthful potential just needing a bit of time and the right manager to tap into it.It Is What It Is wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 11:55 pmThe problem we have got is selling a second tier football club managerial post in an old fashioned cotton mill town in a dreary East Lancashire to reputable candidates.

It's all about perspective. There's plenty of reasons why we should be a very, very attractive prospect to any self-confident or ambitious manager who believes they have the ability to develop players and win things.

We shouldn’t have any problem at all selling a position that has just been a stepping stone to one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Our last three managers are all currently at bigger clubs than Burnley. It Is What It Is wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 11:55 pmThe problem we have got is selling a second tier football club managerial post in an old fashioned cotton mill town in a dreary East Lancashire to reputable candidates.

Re: Next manager
I don't think the fact that it's an "old fashioned cotton town in a dreary East Lancashire..." is all that relevant.
Our managers don't generally tend to reside in the town, apart from Stan of course.
SD was down the Ribble Valley and im assuming Kompany was Cheshire way.
It's the job that should attract.
If a manager is deterred by his surroundings, he's probably not the one for us.

Re: Next manager
All managers take into account the location, the main reason that JDT left rovers was due to the damp in his Mill Hill terrace and his landlord not sorting it, so he left and went back to Copenhagen.

If Burnley, QPR & Oxford all went for the same player and offered the same deal we would win, If those same clubs did the same with a manager we would be 3rd pick due to location

I’ve been told that one of them is an extremely objectionable, self centred bloke but he does have two promotions to the Premier League. Robins is not really for me. He’s done a superb job at Coventry to be fair but his long term management record isn’t anything to get excited about.
Re: Next manager
Disagree. Don’t think a manager who is ambitious and wants to manage in the premier league picks QPR or Oxford over us to achieve that aim. We have a strong recent history of being in the premier league and squad capable of returning. Location isn’t Burnley it’s North England.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 9:02 amThe rules are different for players.

Re: Next manager
Bloody hell, there’s a name from the past. His son Sam might have been useful. He was head of recruitment at Brighton until recently and he’s now at Chelsea.
Re: Next manager
Agree with this. VK did say it was an attempt to short circuit our growth up to Brighton levels quicker than they’ve got there and perhaps he didn’t see the growth in those championship players to reach those heights. This supports the thought that he’s a mercenary as you’re quite right, dropping players who’ve just performed excellently is only going one way!Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2024 9:34 amWith Kompany I was referring more to the fact that upon winning the league he opted to ‘upgrade’ a number of players, who were some of the best in the Championship, rather than working to improve them. Rob Edwards achieved the same, in fact slightly more, by coaching his players - some of whom had come from the lower leagues.
It’s not hard to imagine that some of our players felt let down.
