Do not want OGS at all. Poor at Cardiff.
As has been pointed out to me this afternoon he has a better record at Manchester United than any other manager since Ferguson. He was awful at Cardiff but that’s over a decade ago now.

Would I have had him at the top of my list? Definitely not. But he’s a better bet I think than some who have been mentioned and he might bring a claret with him.

Is it looking likely then do you think Tony?

I always thought he was a really nice guy, maybe too nice, but I’m not convinced and wouldn’t be as excited about it as some of the other candidates mentioned.

I have absolutely no idea. I’ve been out all day and currently on the train home just picking up on this latest news. I do believe that an appointment is not that far away but who is anyone’s guess.

I don’t want to be excited, I want us to get a good manager. Chris Waddle excites me, Sean Dyche was a good manager.

Yes, likewise, just hearing the OGS news myself and wondering if you’d heard anything. Thanks for confirming.

Fair point about being excited, and in fact the more excited I am about someone probably has a direct correlation to the level of risk they will ultimately become a good manager. Although, being truthful I’m not sure we have really been linked to any good managers in this process - by that I mean premier league proven.

Marcus Rashford scored more under OGS than any other United manager and he clearly got quite a lot out of the players, as CT pointed out OGS was at Cardiff a decade ago and it was a basket case of a club run by Vincent Tan. The logical appointment in terms of track record of getting out of the Championship would be Parker so we will see.

I have an extensive experience of football playing for many years in Blackburn Combination division 2 and the Hyndburn Division 1. I've included this on my CV but without the names of the Teams - to be frank I'm getting on a bit and it was a long time ago.

I also managed at a high level in the Haslingden 5 a side league at Haslingden Sports Centre. I played a 1-2-2 with 2 at the back and 2 up front. My star centre forward - Basher Smith - played a Harry Kane role: kind of slow and wandering around the pitch a bit lost even before Harry was born.

I'm willing to work for a lot less than Vincent Kompany. Unfortunately, I only speak one language (ecky thump) so I need a translator for any players further afield than the likes of Chorley or Ramsbottom.

If you need a manager that can lose a lot of games and talk sh*te afterwards to replace VK: I'm your man.

Mike Phelan was on Talksport a few weeks back and talked about the OGS reign in a bit of detail and about Ronaldo’s return. Sounded like
OGS was trying too hard to be mates with the players and training was more like a holiday camp.

Rather than spend a month looking over applicants and interviewing them.
The board should have researched who they wanted. Narrowed it down to maybe 2 then sent all guns for that person.

Initially was dead against OGS but coming round to it now.

Don't feel like he's much of a tactician, but he did about as well as any of the other well-rated managers at United post-Fergie, and did well with making them a good counter-attacking side against the big teams. But I don't think we need a tactical genius to get us out of the Championship given we'll probably have the best budget. And if he gets us to the PL then being a more pragmatic, counter-attacking team is going to give us a much better season than the one just gone.

He's a big enough name and seems like a decent guy that players would like to play for and fans would warm too. Doesn't seem like too much of a climber (he's already had his go at Man Utd) and he's not got this fashionable "Pep DNA" so I imagine he'd be happy showing some loyalty if it goes well.

He might be able to persuade his fellow Norwegian Berge to hang around for another season, which would be massive. And he must have loads of contacts in the game for building a coaching and scouting team.

It's not an appointment that puts us on the cutting edge of modern, progressive, smarty pants Brighton mk2 football, but last season was absolutely diabolical so sod all that.

I was all for Corberan, he's got that progressive VK / ALK vibe, but maybe Ole's exactly what we need.

Finished 3rd & 2nd in his only two full seasons with them, which makes him the only manager since Ferguson to have back to back top 4 finishes there.

He will have done, he was everywhere in Rossendale, evenings, Saturday mornings, afternoons, Sundays.

Used to make me laugh the bollockings he'd give at the mere whiff of an appeal for offsides!

OGS is one of those managers which after seeing his teams many times, I still have no idea what his preferred style of play is. This immediately puts me off because it's impossible to know what we are getting.

But on the flip side of that if we don't know what style OGS is going to bring from week to week how will the opposition too?. I'm liking the OGS potential myself especially if it pisses some off on here ☺️

Not sure if you're hinting there will be or not but we asked the league for an away match first up to give enough time for the pitch to grow.

Or do they have to have a test event on them before the league allow it to host a game?
Not really hinting just guessing. I didn’t know until now we’d asked to play away on first game but surely the pitch would need a run out before hosting a league game.

Maybe something internal or a training sesh would suffice?

Like most things these days, who knows 🤷‍♂️

OGS so often looked very much like the proverbial rabbit in the headlights at Old Trafford and I can well imagine the more senior players were taking very little notice and basically doing their own thing. I'd be very concerned if it turns out we appoint him, although like anyone we get I'd give him every chance initially.

I think he's worth a go - far rather someone who has managed one of the biggest clubs in the world for a decent period of time than a total rookie. He'd be nobodies first choice but in the absence of others mentioned, if he's up for it then lets give him a chance.

But I wouldn't have thought we have any players in that category in terms of international class / experience or seniority.
We've a very young inexperienced squad some of whom - apparently - lost confidence under VK, so whoever comes in shouldn't have any issues with "prima-donna" type senior players who think they know more than him.
Following on from Mourinho would have been no easy task, but OGS's record was pretty good - as others have pointed out.
Having Phelan alongside should help too.
He wouldn't have been on my radar, but the more I consider it, the more I think it would be a good shout.

I suspect Alan might read between the lines. He'll notice that you haven't committed to the long term and realise, like all of us, that you're merely using the Clarets as a stepping stone to further your own managerial career, so as soon as Real, AC or Barca woo you, that'll be it and off to sunnier climes.

It'll take a lot more than your impressive playing career, managerial experience and supreme tactical nouse to sway Alan.

Still young, 6 years off collecting his state pension.

The thing about being in your 50s and 60s is that as long as you remain healthy you don’t feel much different to how you did earlier in life.

Hi Toni, the problem is I'm not sure I've got a long time term left in me. But committed: yes, it's happened to me twice but my career advisor told me not to mention it on my CV.

A month ago I thought Bellamy would be a disaster, but the longer this goes on the more I’m coming round to it I think.

The 11 we put out will be the best in the league whoever stays or goes, just needs keeping on track, he was part of the promotion season so knows what it takes and certainly isn’t a shrinking violet, he will control the dressing room 100%.

Parker is the common sense move, 2 promotions under his belt but equally as divisive as Bellamy.

Can only imagine we didn’t want Lampard or Rosenior, absolutely no way a sacked Rosenior turned it down.

It’s a pretty uninspiring shortlist so you can see why we didn’t pot Vinny when we should have.

Does anyone else read these names slowly just to check it’s not a joke name?
