This sambo lad looks good. Not sure how fast and tall he is which I think are prerequisites for the premier league and probably not as good as Assignon today but looks really high potential.
Need a LB now.

Yeah, looks about that. If I’m honest I think in the premier league we need 6ft-ers minimum across the back line. Hoping the new LB is a big lad.
I’d have absolutely loved Oosterwolde in January for that reason - always very unlikely, now linked with WHU for £21m - think he’ll do very well in the premier league.

Kieran Trippier 5,10
Ashley Cole 5,9
Luke Shaw 5,10
Just a quick look and those 3 haven't done too shabby being under 6ft have they.

Yes, all done well. Could also use TAA as a younger example. And of course if they’re as naturally talented as that group you can be that bit shorter but I still prefer taller defenders.louieollie wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 5:36 pmBit of a tedious myth I think myself....

Depends how fast they are themselves. I agree the big cumbersome once can, hence my reference to Oosterwolde who is both tall and absolutely rapid.roperclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 29, 2024 6:15 pmTaller full backs can struggle up against smaller tricky wingers

Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea for £30m. Only played a few times in the PL and had ONE decent season in the Championship. 25 years old.
Look at all the deals that are going through for relatively unknown players for £15-20m.
Why would Burnley sell Sander Berge for a fee in the region of £15m as some people suggest (and say we’d be lucky to even make a profit) when these are the fees that are being paid for either unknown youngsters or someone who did ok in the Championship?
Then tell

Seen a lot of Dewsbury Hall at Leicester-he is a very good player, virtually a regular for Leicester for 3 seasons and played almost every PL game in those two seasons in the PL. For info Smith Rowe is for sale at around £25m-if he goes to the right club he could end up being a top investment. I think we will struggle to get over £18m for Berge. He has been for me our Player of the Season, but in the PL there are flaws to his game, and the majority of the PL has a strong squad pushing for placesJakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 2:00 pmDewsbury-Hall to Chelsea for £30m. I'd sell half the squad before even contemplating selling Sander

That all depends on what the player himself wants to do.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 30, 2024 3:15 pmI'd sell half the squad before even contemplating selling Sander
Ideally our main players have the stomach for the fight but we can't afford to carry players in the squad who don't want to be here, it's a bigger recipe for disaster than any of the other issues we have.

Newcastle have just signed Odysseas Vlachodi from Forest. I’m guessing that’ll end the Trafford speculation.

So just for context this is the updated squad list courtesy of CT.
Still needs a hefty amount of trimming and doesn’t include any potential step ups from U21’s
You would expect a large number out of the door in the next few days/weeks.
Even with the expected departures it is still going to be a very competitive squad at Championship level one would think.

Can see us trying to offload at least 16 players off that list plus whoever we get bids for that we can turn down.
So possibly 20 players on their way out.

That would leave us with 17 players. I can't see more than 5/6 moving on unless we get a decent fee for them.

I’ll go for 10 outgoings, mainly players who’ve been on loan and therefore weren’t part of last years squad anyway.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
20 players out of course would be the ideal situation, for me at least. I obviously know that’s not what happens in the real world, I’d expect us to lose at least 8 out on loan plus a few out permanently for fees then the players we can’t hold onto because of big fees like Trafford and Berge etc
So at least a dozen but 20 in an ideal world. I think a high turnover of players is part of our business model.

I fully expect Weghorst, Churlinov, Obafemi, Taylor and Costelloe to leave.
Anyone else would command a relatively high fee and it would be our decision to let them leave or not.

Odd one.
Trafford looked like he was being brought in to become Pope’s successor. The Forest keeper was third choice there and is 30. So either PSR got in the way and they decided not to bring in a cheap option or they may still want Trafford.

Plus I expect Roberts to Leeds who could also command a fee and Bastien somewhere for a small fee. Although given our lack of midfielders, I wouldn’t be against us keeping him for what we’d get (I thought he was tidy enough).
Think we’ll also get fees for McNally and Delcroix.
My hope is that, plus the unexpected Kompany money and a big Trafford sale will be able to cover this years transfer instalments and we can keep the core squad together.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I’ve given up reading about these PSR scams between the cheating clubs but if I’m reading it right they bought a 30 yo keeper who has barely played for £35m.
Three very good pieces of news about all of this:
1. When they came in for Trafford early I worried we might need to get deals done for PSR reasons. Obviously we weren’t in that position so that’s good.
2. Or we refused to get involved in whatever scams they were proposing. Also good.
3. When they come back we can say that we want £35m like they paid for a 3rd choice keeper.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
They have sold Anderson to Forrest for 35m
They have to sell before they can buy anyone

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Newcastle had to sell before a certain date to be in line with PSR - hence the Anderson sale and imminent Minteh sale (which Newcastle fans aren’t very happy about).
With the way PSR works from an accounting point of view, I believe a sale can go into the accounts as the full amount and a buy can still be amortised over the length of the deal. This is why there are a number of strange deals happening between PL currently. They’re all looking after each other and making sure nobody is going to get penalised. You scrub my back….

Jack Gaughan, who reported Muric to us in the first place, is suggesting he’s set to leave this summer. Sounds like there is PL and European interest. What fee do we think here? 10-15?

For me keeping him & Berge are key to us fighting another challenge and I think if we sell him Pace & Co will realise just how vital he was to our promotion campaign.
For that reason I’d keep him even if it meant losing him for nothing the season after.
I won’t even say what I think he’s worth but imagine your £10-£15m is about what we’ll get.
If both him & Trafford are off I think we were a bit stupid to let BPF go tbh.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Strange that decisions like that might be made before a new manager is in post. Does he not get a say, whoever he is.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 2:13 pmI’ve been told to expect an entirely new goalkeeping department for this season with all 4 recognised senior keepers set to leave.

That would certainly be Step 1 of not being promoted back to the Premier League.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 2:13 pmI’ve been told to expect an entirely new goalkeeping department for this season with all 4 recognised senior keepers set to leave.

Yeah fair points.LongsideClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 2:19 pmIn all fairness 2 of them never featured and 2 of them are worth an awful lot of money so seems relatively low impact to raise a lot of money and replace them for a lot less.
Plenty of solid keeper options out there. Depending on our budget Michael Cooper from Plymouth would be a good choice, I think it would be close to £10m they want though.

I’d hope for that, but we’ll end up with 6 if we’re lucky.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2024 1:32 pmJack Gaughan, who reported Muric to us in the first place, is suggesting he’s set to leave this summer. Sounds like there is PL and European interest. What fee do we think here? 10-15?
