If it is Parker let’s hope he’s as successful as Coyle and Dyche who on paper where equally pretty uninspiring appointments at the time.

Re: Next manager
All about opinions. I think this squad is even better than the 101 points team.
We've gone from Benson and Zaroury as our main wingers, to Benson, Zaroury, Odobert and Koleosho. And central midfield now has Berge.

Re: Next manager
I think you know I disagree on that so won’t go over old ground, but bar the ageing players (some of whom were offered new contracts and turned us down) I will concede that the loanee’s were a key part of that season - who Kompany identified and convinced to sign. I just don’t see Parker having that pull at all.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:24 pmI don’t think it’s fair to say that’s the benchmark. Whoever takes over has a squad that is nowhere near what we had.
Either way, automatic promotion has to be the target.

Re: Next manager
I take the point that Tella, Maatsen and THB were key players. And then we had Barnes and Cork with some experience. But bearing in mind we're a level lower, players like Odobert, Berge, Koleosho Esteve, Ramsay, Amdouni etc are more than capable of making a big impact in the championship. I agree it shouldn't be the benchmark but saying we're nowhere near that squad in terms of ability isn't quite right imo. Most championship teams would cut their metaphorical arms off for our group of playersClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:24 pmI don’t think it’s fair to say that’s the benchmark. Imagine Koleosho starting for us on the left with Odobert on the right. With Benson and Zaroury as subs.
That would be like having a cheat code.

I was hoping for a more imaginative, data led appointment than Parker but what will be will be. I will still fully get behind him if it is him. He does have 2 promotions and did get Solanke scoring for fun at this level.
I do wonder what our players will think and whether a few who were on the fence of pushing for a move or staying will start to lean towards the former.

Re: Next manager
Why worry about what players think about? They are under contract, being paid well and if he is the new manager, they know he's taken 2 teams up so they will likely be professional and stick together.RVclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:43 pmI was hoping for a more imaginative, data led appointment than Parker but what will be will be. Struggling to see the problem with a manager who has got two out of two promoted, especially during that weird pandemic period when the pre season odds could have been shook up randomly as players and squads went down like flies.
Parker doesn’t get my pulse racing, particularly playing style, but the top priority is promotion and avoiding a slide into obscurity.

Owen Coyle got 76 points in the Championship but was a better manager for Burnley both in terms of points per game and entertainment in the Premier League.NewClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 5:19 pmWell, I dunno.
I’ll measure Parker (or whoever it is) not on how they fare in the premier league but how they fare in the championship because that’s the challenge that faces them initially.
101 points, 3 games lost, 87 goals scored is the benchmark. I’m not sure Parker’s more pragmatic style will get anywhere near that kind of result.
If we then go up I’ll judge him against how he fares in the premier league, which I agree is a much lower bar.
I don’t care how we go up if we go up, it’s how we cope we the Premier League that is important.

Re: Next manager
Burnley want Scott Parker to be their new boss - and hope to finalise terms quickly.
The relegated Clarets have had the former Fulham and Bournemouth manager on their list since the day Vincent Kompany left for Bayern Munich.
Now owner Alan Pace has gone through the interview process and insiders reveal Parker has ticked the bosses with promotion on his CV and the right name and image for the American.
Parker has been out of work for some time but his ability to take clubs to promotion after dropping to the Championship has been a massive factor.
Burnley will have to give Parker an attractive offer ana big bonus if he can do it again but the signs are good that they can agree.

Personally I'm fine if it's Parker. As much as I'd like Bellamy to remain as assistant, there is no way I would entertain him as taking the manager's job. We can't afford to take a random chance on somebody.
Parker with 2 promotions under his belt makes sense.

How do we know we don’t have players as good in the Championship as those 2? I’d bet Koleosho and Odobert would be even better than Tella at that level personally. Albeit one will leave. Maatsen was a loan and improved a lot with us granted, but this new Brazilian might step up.

Don’t think Nixon would go public with that unless it was 99% done. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it announced in the morning or in an hour or so if we base it on Nixon floating about for an “Aye”

Re: Next manager
I will have some reservations if it is Parker, but that’s the case with pretty much everyone mentioned so far and he at least has a cv which includes decent evidence that he is capable of being able to achieve our first priority i.e. get out of this league. I get the impression some people would prefer someone who has zero experience but was a “big name player”.

Re: Next manager
I’d take Parker over Bellamy to be honest. He’s an experienced manager for a start. Hopefully it’s sorted quickly so I don’t have to keep piling up my foe list!

Re: Next manager
If we are basing promotions to the Premier League as being the main factor in getting the job , then Steve Bruce should get it .
Parker obviously has more attributes, don’t ask me what they are though.

I’ll give him a proper chance if and when he’s officially appointed, but feck me what a disappointment after weeks and weeks of searching and after some of the others being linked.

Massively underwhelming for me, shows no ambition whatsoever and really does seem a step backwards. Still it'll appease some on here that were in danger of letting their bitterness for the clubs custodians totally consume them.
