As fantastic as Cork was for us, his legs had clearly gone. A big no for me.

Unpopular opinion, but I still think the Spurs one was potentially a pen from one angle where Son clipped him. The main camera angles made bad viewing for him but there was one a few frames earlier that did look like he was caught.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 9:24 pmWrongly sent off at Chelsea, it was at Spurs when his copybook was blotted.
His play acting was embarrassing but I don’t think you can hold too much against a player for trying to win a penalty in such an important game… and given the series of awful decisions given against us last year it was obvious he needed to lay it on thick to stand any chance of a proper review and fair decision.
The more concerning thing for me was how he would go down like he’d been shot when we were defending. But I’d still take him back in a heartbeat.

Booed by his own fans that day and clearly his behaviour didn’t go down well with his team mates. I think you absolutely can hold it against him, he was an absolute disgrace to the club that day. Glad he's long gone, wasn’t even that good a player, but there's zero excuse for his crap attempt at cheating.NewClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 10:27 pmUnpopular opinion, but I still think the Spurs one was potentially a pen from one angle where Son clipped him. Our last PL season under Dyche he was badly exposed, and although far more comfortable in the Championship under VK, his rate of racking up bookings said a lot. As I said, a wonderful player for us - but the memories should remain memories.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 10:27 pmI’m not sure where his legs had gone, we didn’t see him play to find out.

Early in the season when giving goals away in the Championship on the counter Kompany called on the team to stop this and this resulted in Cork collecting a few yellows, if refs did their jobs properly Man City would have 5 or 6 players booked every game but they are clever at doing it.

If we are to lose (or let go) Trafford on top of the transfer of Muric then this is the perfect type of signing. He has worked his way up through the divisions while on loan from Brighton and was excellent at Swansea, he appears from the outside to have the style of play suited to our squad and is an excellent age for the ALK model.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 9:52 pmI’ve been told Carl rushworth from Brighton is keeper we are interested in, was on loan at Swansea last season

Yep, Kompany telling Cork to be the one to stop Counters with a foul and yellow, pretty much ended his career with us.
Hopefully he has a decent season somewhere to finish, without them nonsense tactics.

All. correct - which is why Ipswich switched their attention to Muric
Brighton also want/expect guaranteed game time for Rushworth - which in turn complicated our move for Hladky - which was close apparently but cooled when the opportunity to return to Czechia arose in the latter stages of negotiation
Ipswich were surprised Hladky turned down their offer of a two year deal - don't think his agent is winning him many friends

Yet statistically, when he played, he accrued more points per game than any other midfielder tried in central midfield that season…and some.
Updated…I’ve found my stats upto the end of April that season. I didn’t finish them but Cork comes out on top easily….having played few games (obviously, as he wasn’t first choice and having often been thrown in for games against Liverpool and Man City, to give the regular starters a rest, only to be dropped a week later.

His legs had gone in the championship 2 years ago. That was why he picked up so many yellows for hauling players back as they strolled past him. Still great on the ball but not what we’ll need.

I love Jack Cork, but I'm not convinced he's youthful enough for a promotion push and we don't really need anymore squad players.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 7:52 amHis legs had gone in the championship 2 years ago. Parker may well see it differently though, I'd have him in for preseason and take a look at him first.

If we end up selling Berge and Brownhill, I'd argue an experienced squad player is exactly what we need. Then all we need is another starting CM to go with Cullen as we'd have the experience of Cork and see what Massengo can do.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 8:07 amI love Jack Cork, but I'm not convinced he's youthful enough for a promotion push and we don't really need anymore squad players.

Brighton website appears to show 2025 expiry. But if it's anything like the BFC website it's probably not up to date!
Carl Rushworth signed for Brighton & Hove Albion from Halifax Town in January 2019.
The goalkeeper made six appearances in the Premier League South for Albion’s under-18s during the 2018/19 campaign, helping the team finish in fifth place after ending the season with five consecutive victories.
Rushworth moved up to join Albion’s under-23s ahead of the 2019/20 Premier League 2 campaign, providing added competition between the sticks.
The keeper spent the 2021/22 season on loan with League Two Walsall, where he kept 11 clean sheets in 43 league appearances.
Carl impressed during his time with the Saddlers, winning the Players' Player and Supporters' Young Player of the Season.
He signed a new contract with us in January 2022, that runs until June 2025.

The difficulty with Cork is that it is now 18 months since he played regular first team. He played less than 90 minutes in the league in total last season. That gap is a point of difference from the likes of Alexander or Milner and at 35, it certainly can't be assumed that because he's looked after himself, he'd be able to recondition himself to the intensity of playing 3 games a fortnight. Whilst he was excellent in the first half of that Championship promotion season, both Dyche and Kompany clearly shared a concern that he was in decline and it has to be assumed there's some statistical reason for that.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 11:15 pmYet statistically, when he played, he accrued more points per game than any other midfielder tried in central midfield that season…and some.

If Cork is ready to start a coaching career and would be interested in filling the vacancy on Parker's coaching staff, whilst remaining registered as a squad player, then that's a particularly very interesting option for all concerned. But I'd be surprised if he were a starting player for any promotion challenger in the Championship next season.

Agreed Spice-a coaching role could be very interesting as Jack is a scholar of the game and has a nice nature, and could provide continuity and inside knowledge for Parker. A player-definitely no . We already have over a dozen or so players to move out. The fact Jack has not been able to find another club since VK left is confirmation for me that his playing days are well behind him, and what a playing career he has enjoyedclaretspice wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 8:40 amThe difficulty with Cork is that it is now 18 months since he played regular first team. Both Cork and Assignon could do a job in my opinion. Whether we have space in the squad for them is another question.
Despite his antics Assignon would be an upgrade on Vitinho and Roberts. We also have Sambo. You'd think there'd need to be some outgoings. I'd take the link with a pinch of salt though. We've likely only been included in the recent article with the link to Roma because we tried and failed to sign him earlier in the summer when he turned us down.
Cork obviously wasn't the fastest and might not be able to play week in week out but we always seem to have played better with him in the team.

He’s 23! He’s at a point in his career where he needs to be thinking of cementing a number 1 spot down somewhere. If he doesn’t think he can get ahead of Steele or Verbuggen, then I can’t see why he wouldn’t move. Born in Halifax too so localish lad.

Does Assignon have a good mate at the club?
That could definitely help us to get him.
But if we are after him, Sambo seems a strange signing.

I believe Jack and his family are settled in the area and his heart is in our club. I have a feeling he could make a very good coach for us, but my fear is if he is still going to be registered as a player too, it puts pressure on our squad size, and we have yet to see much movement in moving on so many fringe players that will get no where need the starting match squadsboatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 9:59 amCork was doing his coaching badges (as was Barnes) a while ago. Carl Rushworth 6ft 2ins Keeper, according to Transfer Markt his contract expires in June 2027 and they give a market value of 3m.
Last season Highlights here: https://youtu.be/nnxgQ0q9wn8?si=LOPDIlZenUtJkw3-
Some very good saves and at the end his quick thinking perfect long ball gives them a perfect counter attacking goal.
Looks a quality keeper, originally from the north. Maybe a season long loan with an option to buy if we get promoted?

He went on holiday with Esteve so there’s maybe that factor.burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 10:17 amDoes Assignon have a good mate at the club?
That could definitely help us to get him.
But if we are after him, Sambo seems a strange signing.
I agree about Sambo but I was told we were confident on Assignon after we’d signed him. Obviously it was missplaced confidence.
Personally think he’d be a huge signing for us, particularly if the rumoured outgoings are true, so hope we can convince him but I imagine the chances are zero if Roma are in for him.

Plenty of legs left in Corky yet, would be a good one year contract signing.
Experience, skill and a boost for the dressing room.
