I agree about Sambo but I was told we were confident on Assignon after we’d signed him. Obviously it was missplaced confidence.
Personally think he’d be a huge signing for us, particularly if the rumoured outgoings are true, so hope we can convince him but I imagine the chances are zero if Roma are in for him.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I mentioned long ago in this thread that we needed to reduce our squad by at least 10 players, it's far too large.
I also said there was a danger of throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
The loss of Muric, and the even mentioning of losing Berge and Brownhill is frightening. In our massive squad the weakest area is midfield and we talk about getting rid of our best 2.
We started the window with a squad well placed to bounce straight back. We can't afford to throw that opportunity away, it might be a one off, and no amount of money is going to better the benefits of promotion.
Of course it might all be rumours, but I hope AP and SP, haven't lost sight of the prize.

Him & Mory Diaw seem to make a lot of decent stops but don’t half put it back in to the danger area with most of them.
Call me old fashioned but I like to see a keeper catch the ball.
Diaw very decent with his feet though from a short YouTube video.

Yes. Galatasaray also allegedly interested in January and again now though, so even if they’re not interested I can see another big club being in for him.burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:05 amI suppose it depends if the Roma stories are true, or just agent bs
Hope we push the boat out to compete myself, if not would like to keep Roberts for the experience.

Don’t know a lot about him but for the reasons you state, it’d make a lot of sense to me if we were interested.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 9:52 amHe’s 23! Local, unlikely to feature at Brighton, high potential and presumably not too expensive. Big lad by the looks of things too.

I suspect that Odobert and Berge's buy out clauses are a problem. They are our most saleable assets atm and will want to stay in the PL. Replacing them with Cork and JBG would be a massive backwards step.

Do they definitely have release clauses? Longsider suggests they are both being sold, but is this because they want to leave? If so, fair enough. But you sell too many of your best players and you don't get promoted, and promotion nets you a lot more money.summitclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:27 amI suspect that Odobert and Berge's buy out clauses are a problem. If we could keep Berge we would be laughing .
Parker will want to see what the lads in the squad can do in the next week or so , then I suspect we will see departures happening - there are a lot of bodies to shift .
Some of these could well be late in the window to factor in the potential sales of players we would like to keep, if indeed an offer comes in which we can’t turn down.

Tell you what, I think my interest in football is at an all time low, bordering on not being bothered completely.
Overpaid, underperforming players dictating terms to their clubs, leaves a bitter taste. The rot seems to have set in deep, and I find myself questioning the very point of it all.

I think a clear out of the mercenaries is exactly what’s needed. Getting rid of the manager was a brilliant start but aside from an odd few, I’m happy to see the vast majority his signings to go with him to be honest.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:22 pmTell you what, I think my interest in football is at an all time low, bordering on not being bothered completely.

I understand how you feel after watching the total vanity project disaster of last season, but give this season a fair shot first. I just hope we start to sign a few recognisable names from the English game.

That's certainly fair ksr and I'm inclined to agree with you on needing a 'clearout'. The type of business we started to do under VK is just not sustainable for a club like ours imo... We need the Cork, Guddy, Mee etc types that really buy into the club and want to be here for a long while.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:37 pmI think a clear out of the mercenaries is exactly what’s needed. It might not be all glam and may have some 'boring' windows - a couple of mercenaries is fine I guess but for the long term stability/success of BFC it's very important.

We forget players like Berge are under contract. Vital we keep him, so set a high minimum asking price ie £20m, and unless anyone can give us that without the hideous add-ons, he stays. Lets not frett about who we are going to losejedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 11:58 amWe have to keep Berge.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I have no idea if this is true but wouldn’t it be great to see a few of the players like Berge, O’Shea and Odobert follow Esteve’s lead and show some loyalty after relegation? I’m sure they’d be rewarded by the fans with a lot of support.
And more to the point, if I were Alan Pace I would demand it.
In the main they only signed a year ago and I think there’s a point at which you have to tell them you’re putting the clubs interests above any personal interests and they have to respect it.
I actually think if we don’t it becomes a problem on so many levels:
- we reduce our chances of going up and lose out on £200m, rot sets in and we have to sell more
- if we do go up we still have to replace said players with premier league quality
- will they really work that hard for us if they know they can swan off if we get relegated again?
Culture is set at the top so I hope Pace and co are setting it.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
I think he's worth more to us than £20m. A midfield of Berge and Cullen, if fit, almost guarantees promotion in my opinion. We would be so unbelievably dominant with the ball that the constant recycling into forward areas by the pair of them would inevitably, eventually, break teams down with our wingers. If we're going to make £10-15 on Muric, £20m+ on Trafford and (unfortunately, but inevitably) sell Odobert for big money as well then I fail to see any need to sell Berge.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:50 pmWe forget players like Berge are under contract. He signed a contract with us knowing that there was a chance we'd get relegated and he has previously stuck with Sheff Utd for two years in this league. He should be made to honour that for one season, assuming we bring in the required funds from other deals to pay off Pace's loans for another year (....).

I'd love it if a few of the lads (and the ones that really did battle for us last season) wanted to stay and were keen to set down that sort of culture at the club.
I'd also reward their loyalty as well - £20 mill for Berge does nothing for us, we just lose a damn good CM and then have to hope to replace him.
We should have enough coming in with the compo for VK, sales of Muric and naturally paying less wages after losing Chaz/natural reduction of wages after relegation clauses come in.
----O'Shea-Esteve
----Berge-Cullen
is as good as a spine as there has been in the Championship... losing one of those players would be bad, losing two would be a disaster.

Yes I accept he could be worth more than that £20m. I was simply putting a realistic (to both sides) fee on his head.It was his foraging runs that I will remember of last year in the PL when there were not too many positives, and a number led to goals. In the Championship he could be the stand out playerjedi_master wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 12:57 pmI think he's worth more to us than £20m. He can't. Simple as that. If a player wants to leave, then unless its in their contract that a certain fee has to be met, then it's in their interests and ours that they move on ASAP.
Imagine in your job the company is in a worse position than the previous year, you get a better offer from a company in a better situation and your boss tells you you have to be loyal to us? You'd tell them to do one and rightly so.

Add Brownhill into that midfield and we'll be far too much for anyone. Cullen is the metronome, Berge the class, Brownhill the industry. If we're able to start a 4231 with Brownhill pressing high in the no.10 role, with Koleosho / Odobert / Benson / Zaroury as our wide options we'll be something else.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 16, 2024 1:00 pmI'd love it if a few of the lads (and the ones that really did battle for us last season) wanted to stay and were keen to set down that sort of culture at the club.

I'd be happy to see the Ipswich keeper come in, bit of experience and height and played every game last season as they got promoted.
