Looks like we are in land of Turkish journalism for now with Sander Berge. Reports from there suggesting Fenerbache’s director will travel to England to negotiate with us and ‘hold talks with’ Berge.

http://sportwitness.co.uk/director-trav ... otiations/
Why would he go there?

Simple in reality - keep Berge and we get promoted.

Sell - and we struggle

Best player in the league by a mile
We won the league in Feb last time we were in they and finish about 15 points above the same that Berge played for.

I really want Berge to stay but we should still get promoted without him

Possibly for Champions League football.

All this best player in the league by a mile, should get promoted with or without him, etc. etc. is a far too complacent for my liking. I hope that if we don’t have the best of starts that a little time is afforded, despite these high expectations.

Yes, we should be up there but there are some damn good players at other clubs - some may not be there come the start of the season but there’ll be a good few who will give Berge a run for his money.

Don’t think we’d struggle and we’d for sure sign a replacement if he was sold.

We’ve a huge talented squad, a few of the better ones possibly leaving would still leave a talented huge squad.

Personally don’t think Berge would turn down a move, play under Jose and champs league football, it’s a no brainer for him

Plus a pay rise probably.

But depends how settled he is in England. But this may have been agitated by his agent, so we'll see.

Not sure we’d ‘struggle’ if he were the only departure but I agree that the whole ask becomes harder and you’re then relying a lot on Cullen.

My big worry is that Alan and the team think this season will be as easy as last and let key players like Berge go, then make life harder for ourselves than it needs to be. £200m on the line so any sales need to be made with that in mind.

The loan point isn’t a bad one. I’d still prefer not to lose him but to take him back in the event of promotion would be one fewer premier league standard player we’d need to find.

Overall though, I’d just try and make him the exception and pay whatever his premier league salary was last year this season. He’s earned it. Oh and make him captain.

Yeah probs won’t of moved house when moving to Burnley from sheff united but tbh if he’s going to leave I’d rather he left now than right at the end of the window

Be nice to start shifting some players we don’t want instead of players we do want. Maybe we can offer them Ramsey and Tresor instead.

In a simple world that would be nice but the players we do want have interest in them for a season, because they are good players. There’s a reason Berge is being linked to a team in champs league and there’s no teams linked to Bastien

Ramsey is more likely to come good for us than Tresor. For what it’s worth I think Ramsey will be a very good player, if he comes back from his injury unscathed

He’s made 17 competitive apps for us l, starting 7 times and completing 584 minutes of football. Of which, our side was majorly out of its depth due to a colaboration of inexperience of premier league football, naivety and stubbornness to adapt by the manager .

Needs to act like a new start when he returns .

Any key players such as Berge the club needs to get their agent in and tell them it has to be done by such a date or they won't accept any offers unless ridiculously good.
We can't have all the drama dragging on the squad needs to be settled and focused on getting off to a good start.

A fella I know reckons he’s been told on good authority that Berge to fenerbache is a matter of when not if. Further down the line than what’s in the media.

I am hoping it’s duff info

Simply cannot see it happening. They don’t have the money going off their history. The leagues record fee in €17m back in 00/01.

I highly doubt we’d let him go for less than £20m

Unless they are willing to pay higher fee than we want to pay in more instalments.

5m up front with another 25m spread over 5 years

The issue was kompany, the first game Ramsey started at home to United in the 8/10 role for 70 minutes he was excellent and then next a game away at Newcastle for someone season kompany decided to play him left wing and he looked lost

I'd he goes to Turkey then you'd think it would be a loan move which would be terrible news all-round. My nightmare scenario is that we told a few last year we would let them move if we went down (similar to Weghorst) and yet we don't get a decent offer and have to begrudgingly accept loan moves.

I'm not saying that will happen but I could see it happening with some.

They've only spent more than 10 million euros on a player three times in their history, 15m euros last season is the record and before that 13m 11 year's ago and 14m 15 year's ago, not a chance they're coming in with 25m euros not even close

The Weghorst situation is a little different. It was a world cup year and he was told that if he wasn't playing in a top division then he wouldn't get picked.
It's totally understandable.
Berge will get picked for Norway regardless.

Berge will still play for Norway but players like him, Amdouni, Tresor etc will consider themselves above Championship level I'd have thought.

It's possible we told these types they could move on to get them through the door- I certainly wouldn't rule it out. The WW deal shows the club owners are open to that sort of thing.

Again not saying it will happen and its my nightmare scenario but it could be a possibility.

Surely the same goes for Tresor too, right?

Sick of seeing the keyboard warriors calling him names etc and shows a lack of respect and braincells from some so called 'supporters' on here.

Time will tell but Berge staying would boost our chances of a successful season massively. He doesn’t seem the type to kick up much of a fuss but if an attractive offer comes in for him then he may fancy it over another championship season. Got to factor in an offer the club can’t refuse coming in too.

Got to be realistic about Berge, and have a contingency plan in case he leaves. He's probably our most readily saleable asset and is a player I'd expect to be capable of commanding a place in most bottom half Premier League teams - the only thing he really lacks is a touch of aggression and real dynamism in his closing down and defensive work. I'd be very surprised if he is still hear at the close of the window and I'd expect us to have a contingency plan for the eventuality that he (and/or Brownhill leave).

But he is replaceable at this level.

If we are to lose Berge, which is to be expected, then Ben Sheaf should be high on the list as a replacement.

Would give us the physical presence and much needed leadership.

True. It's when we go back up that we will need at least as good as, if not better than, Berge. Sort of back where we've just come from.

A better idea is to also give Tresor a chance. I can't be the only person to watch Belgium football before he arrived. He always looked quality to me.

On his showing last season he should be no where near the first team until he starts putting a shift in.

I don’t get this idea that he didn’t put a shift in, in every game I saw him he was chasing back defensively, he was just not very good at defending. If he is played behind the striker or allowed to come in off the left but without the need to defend as much he will be fantastic in my opinion at least. As I have said many times on here about him, he came from the same League as Benson and Zaroury and he was a much better player in that league than them 2.

Yes as much as I think he will be a massive asset in this league if the rumours are true about him then he has to go. We don’t actually know if he is AWOL or it is an agreed absence though, it is odd that Sascha hasn’t mentioned anything for example.

When Dyche managed us the character of a player was important and how he fitted into the group. Under Kompany I’m not sure that was the case.

Vincent kompany was a top quality pro footballer with the highest standards. My guess is that he would have expected those standards from the players he managed...
whether he got that from them is another matter.

It's also the job of the manager to absolutely insist on getting those standards every single day, and to not allow a culture of bad habits and sloppiness to become ingrained like it did.

TBH, I don't know if there was sloppiness. The players were certainly not (collectively) up to it, but for all I know they all tried their best.

It’s true about Dyche.

I also think we signed some excellent characters that fit in to the group brilliantly under Kompany. Tella, THB, Maatsen, Cullen, Benson, Foster, Zaroury, Vitinho, Berge, Esteve, O’Shea, JBL, Koleosho (worked unbelievably hard in the few games he played).

Some were arguably badly treated by him (Muric, Tresor, Benson, Zaroury), yet they in the main have showed an impeccable attitude. In the main, our recent signings have displayed a very good attitude, that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Some, probably the vast majority, definitely tried their best, of that I'm certain, and that's massively to their credit despite the poor management they were getting.

Let's all hope that Scott Parker is fixing things. The early signs are promising.

In truth all managers have (ostensibly) poor signings, and some players appear to have had a rough deal from whoever signed them.
Sean Dyche had a few, it goes with the territory.

I don’t get this idea that he didn’t put a shift in, in every game I saw him he was chasing back defensively, he was just not very good at defending. If he is played behind the striker or allowed to come in off the left but without the need to defend as much he will be fantastic in my opinion at least.
He is 100% a support man. He's not someone you ask to chase back, he's someone who plays further in midfield and acts almost as a second forward. Still confident that fans will change their minds on him.

Berge of course was at Sheff Utd in the promotion season. I saw him on the box for them a few times and he wasn't particularly impressive so I'm not convinced he is the key to us getting promotion. He should do well at this level but will he?
