When you take a look at Egan Riley's pedigree it's second to none.

He has represented England at every age group from U15 - U19.

His career stalled two years ago with him barely making an appearance for us. He's still only 21. I can't help but suspect there's something more in his tank, something we can hopefully coax out of him.

I saw him at Shrewsbury in the League Cup where he played centreback and he looked very assured.

Here's hoping he can progress.
We don’t have a clue about him. He’s hardly played for us, just games against Shrewsbury & Crawley other than some late sub appearances.

Apparently impressed at Hibs until picking up a serious injury and then loaned out to PSV reserves for the second half of last season.

Whatever happens to him, this is going to be a key season for him. If he’s not going to play for us then he’s going to have to move on to get some first team experience.

If he stays then he doesn’t have to be included in the 25 man squad but only just. He avoids it by one day.

The proof of a pudding is in the eating and the proof of how good a footballer is will be on the pitch.

I'm not trying to build the lad up beyond reasonable expectations. Citeh fans were surprised he left to join us. That's something we know. Same might've been said about Richard Eckersley and we know how that turned out.

He's clearly got a lot of raw ability if he has represented England consistently at youth levels.

I saw his performance at Shrewsbury and thought he was MotM. Yet he hardly played again. Something went amiss. What, I don't know.

No, none of this means he is suddenly going to be star. Nobody is suggesting that. These are all just faint indicators that he might have more than we've yet seen from him. They might be nothing.

But I disagree that we "don't have a clue about him". We simply don't have a clear idea about him. These are very distinct states.

At least we can wish him all the best, especially for Burnley.

Perhaps a late bloomer? Still only 21 but has played so little professional football. Let’s hope he has a breakthrough
Yeah needs a settled position, not sure he’s tall enough to be a cb

Referring to bits I read from Hibs fans, the general consensus was that they would take him back in a heartbeat and that he was a level above what they have.

He only made 14 apps that season for them and if I remember rightly the majority were at right back.

Didn’t we hear that we were trying to mould him into a defensive midfield player? This isn’t something entirely new to him but in his youth team days and senior career to date he has been utilised more at centre back, possibly due to less physicality in youth games than senior football.

He’s clearly capable in a number of positions and as Tony alluded to , he doesn’t need registering in the 25, so could well be handy to have around , although playing regularly is probably better for his development .

Looks like he's off to Huddersfield if the twitter reports are to be believed. Be interesting to see how he gets on.

Behind closed doors at their request, so that they can play a banned player... Apparently.

yup, tonali still banned

"The Italy international midfielder is still not permitted to play in public friendly matches but can take part in practice games in a private setting

Tonali won't be in action in Newcastle's clash at Hull City at the weekend or in the two matches the Magpies will play on tour in Japan next week."

Playing for your country at junior level doesn't mean a great deal unfortunately, when it comes to making it in the men's game.

Mark Ford was captain of England U21s and couldn't hack it in League 1.

I know you enjoy disagreeing with me but I was only pointing out the lad's potential. These things don't mean nothing, they are only indicators that might mean something, as I've explained elsewhere on this thread.

I was impressed with his performance at Shrewsbury but it was only one game against a lower league side.

I always had the impression he never really wanted to be here and nothing happened last season to change that given his lack of game time.
Agree wholeheartedly with this. I might have the wrong player( there were so many arriving last season) but not only did Tresor leave his decision to come to Burnley until the last day but he actually missed his intended flight and created one of those often seen reactions on here of 'he's not coming' or 'deal off'. Can't say he's been a disappointment because I can't find anything to be disappointed with.

He's taller than Ben Me. That's not to say he's good enough to overcome the disadvantage of being smaller than other players, but it does confirm that players of his size can play centre half.

(Mind you, I more than once saw Jason Heffernan play centre half / sweeper for Colne. There aren't many footballers shorter than him, not once you get past under 15 level anyway.)

He didn’t offer too much in his limited appearances. More concerning I suppose is his disappointing times last season at Hull & Brizzle.
From what I remember Hull were upset that he wasn't there for the second half of the season. I think he played most games for them whilst he was there.

Although 14-1 looks good on paper it's actually a massive backwards step.
Previous results against them were 23-0 & 27-0 I think there a local regional team maybe like Padiham type level

Rosenior played him out of position and said that he had other players to play in Twine's favoured position. From what I was told, they were quite happy for him to be recalled.
