My feeling is that Etienne could be No 2 and Trafford is leaving. Why would he come to Burnley as No 3 if he is in the running to play for England U-21's

I must admit I am confused with this.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 5:26 pmClub have probably looked at Casper and Waller and thought they are too young to be number 3 keeper this season
Is this instead of Mark Travers type signing and means we are planning to keep Trafford to battle for number one with Hladky, using Green as understudy?
Or are we selling Trafford and Green is competing as number one whilst promoting Casper as understudy?
As Green is 24 I would be surprised if he is coming as an understudy, but looking at his career so far it isn't exactly number one material.

He was highly rated , had a bunch of injuries. Its gpod for him. Worst case hes 3rd choice fiting for 2nd. Trafford leaves in 12 months and he has his shot.

I’d imagine right now green would be coming in as number 3 and then if Trafford leaves we will sign another keeper.billyhamilton82 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:54 pmI must admit I am confused with this.

The most games in a season green has played is 15 games so I hardly think he’s competing as number 1 but could be wrong

We will clearly be selling Trafford and the sooner the better for our club. History will hardly record him as a Burnley player.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
The promo for the new GK strip was done by Hladky. I'd stake my house on Trafford leaving.

I think you might be right but what kind of house is it so I can assess the bet properly?

My mistake-I thought that he had recently featured, but it was 2021 when he had a couple of games for Englands U-21's

We didn’t really think Trafford would be competing as number 1 last season and look what happened there (albeit under a different management)123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 7:12 pmI’d imagine right now green would be coming in as number 3 and then if Trafford leaves we will sign another keeper.

Eh? You didn’t think Trafford would be competing for number 1 last season after spending 15m on him. It was pretty obvious he was coming to be number 1. He shouldn’t have been number 1, it should have been muric shirt to lose but that debate has been done to death.
There’s a difference between spending 15m on a keeper and a keeper coming after asking to be released from final year of his deal

To be fair we have form for that shades of gibson I believe that's exactly what was promised until mee had a change of heart & he discovered he would be playing second fiddle. Will we ever learn. You promise something you see it through. Kompany was under intense pressure & brentfords arrival proved too strong to resist upon bringing muric back into the reckoning although left too late for a status revival.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:57 pmTrafford literally said he wasn’t going to sign for a club unless he was first choice

That’s not quite what I meant though (although admittedly that’s what it says)123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 8:55 pmEh? Yes I expected him to compete to be number 1, but let’s be honest, it doesn’t really appear that he had to compete that hard for it.
Regardless of the fee paid, who would have realistically expected a 20yr old whose only league experience was no higher than league 1, to have started the season and play in as many successive games as he did?

Clearly Trafford was signed as first choice.
in the videos from Spain he looks to have a face like a slapped arse in some... he's off (for his own good) ASAP.

i feel sorry for Trafford, TBH, but I can't help thinking that Pep is a bit guilty in all this (mainly because I don't like the tnuc

Don’t think the age matters, I think the fee paid gives you an easier idea of whether they will start or not.wilks_bfc wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:54 pmThat’s not quite what I meant though (although admittedly that’s what it says)

The original point was that I’d be surprised is this green is coming in to be anything more then a number 3 pushing to be number 2

If we think they have potential they need to be out on loan getting some football. They aren't going to progress being our number 3 playing the odd under 23s game.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 5:26 pmClub have probably looked at Casper and Waller and thought they are too young to be number 3 keeper this season

Waller had a loan out last season, but at a very low level. I guess any experience is better than none.

Of course it's completely possible this new keeper is seen as one for the medium term, so will himself be on line for a loan to build his experience this season. I wouldn't assume he'll be our second or third choice keeper at this stage.

If u were after agreeing personal terms with Newcastle but your club won’t sell at a knock down price u would have a face like a slapped arse too
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
The sooner Trafford goes the better. Total wet-wipe of a goalkeeper and a huge waste of money ( as we already know )
If he doesn’t go for big money this summer then we are almost certainly taking a huge loss on him.

Didn't they offer around the £15m mark taking away the add ons it's roughly in the same region we paid city. I'm not quite sure if it's "knock down" or what we expect to achieve bearing in mind he hardly set the world alight last season with his performances. It sounds like a fair offer if the reports are true.

If true, I would be very disappointed with the price.
We've given him virtually a full Premier League season of experience and then to give him back for what is essentially the same money would be ridiculous.
Only one winner.....Man City and Pep.
That's if its true of course.

We’ve had a season of slating him and our general transfer policy, with folk speculating that we won’t be even able to make our money back, let alone make a profit.
Given the season he had, I’d say making our money back would be a win.

I think that’s fake, but said all along that:
Trafford is a good keeper and will be the next England #1
That this was a FFP work around with City with Kompany just helping out the club he wants to go back to manage one day.

I'd say getting our money back would be a great result. The signing was a disaster and the lad clearly wants out.

Not so, given what Matt Williams told the London Clarets at their AGM recently, where he was guest speaker. Trafford arrived with the expectation of being understudy, what occurred was totally down to Kompany.
He plenty of other things to say too, but I will leave that for the London Clarets to report

You would assume City have a buy back clause on JT, so no point worrying about a fee Pace agreed to when signing him 12 months ago.
Hopefully he joins Muric in leaving the club and then we can move on from the whole debate and back Hldaky as No. 1

We took a huge risk and paid a massive premium for a keeper based on his potential.
And up to now the only thing that we have proof of is that he is not good enough for the Premier League.
If we manage to get our money back or anywhere near it then we have managed to swerve a big bullet.
It may be ok for clubs like City to risk £20m or £30m on unproven players - it’s small change for them. City will just get a their Saudi owners to sponsor the tea ladies apron for £25m a season.
For Burnley though we cannot sustain many signings like this and I cannot believe that anyone who has a modicum of knowledge about the current state of our finances would think we could.
And as we stand and without including Trafford we have at least £50m of transfer spend that falls into the same category of players who were a long way from proving they were good enough to play in the Premier League or justify their wages and transfer fee.
