The one thing I’m conscious of this time, is the fact we are going to have very few experienced premier league players in the starting eleven.
Last time we had Brownhill, Cork and Barnes featuring nearly every game. With contributions from JBG, Taylor and Jay. That side of our squad last time can’t be underestimated. I think Barnes and Cork in particular will be massive misses. They kept things simple that allowed the flair players to shine.
I would love it if we signed someone like a Jonjo Shelvey, Tom Cairney, Will Hughes type of player. I think that type of player would be absolutely critical to our success this season.
I've been beating this drum for a long time!! We were a perfect blend in Kompany's first season. The likes of Muric, Tella, THB, Maatsen, Beyer, Zaroury, Benson etc worked perfectly alongside the experience of Roberts, Brownhill, Cork, Taylor, Barnes, JBG and Jay. This was one of my biggest issues with last season. We didn't have the same balance and it showed massively.
Anyone suggesting we can lose players like Roberts, O'Shea and Brownhill aren't looking at the bigger picture. These are the lads we should be building the team around, not getting rid of. Their experience and leadership will be vital.
