"
'We clearly agreed in advance that I would not play in the Championship. The club would like to keep me and will do everything it can to return to the Premier League as soon as possible', the 29-year-old striker told VI.
But first and foremost he wants to convince national coach Louis van Gaal with strong performances in an attractive competition. Weghorst: 'For next season it is important that I can perform at a high level, also with a view to the World Cup in Qatar.'"

Run around a lot last night like he does not much use to us, I'll be glad when this guy is gone.

Let's let bygones be bygones and forget the past.
Seems that Parker has come in and started with a clean slate for all the players.
If the manager and board want him to play then fair enough.

Re: Weghorst
Still expect weghorst to leave purely because he has some value after the euros and he’s out of contract in the summer. Whilst he’s here if he’s fit and ready then it makes total sense to have him in the squad

Weghorst would be handy against certain opposition. Leeds away for a start.

Re: Weghorst
If he stays and he's genuinely committed I believe he could be a very useful asset and offer something different up front when required. The problem is Foster is always going to get the gig ahead of him, providing he's fit, so waiting his chances on the bench isn't, I don't feel, going to suit Wout for long, or his ego.

Re: Weghorst
Since we are still paying him and he hasn't, as yet, found himself another club it would surely be reasonable to play him. I still have my doubts about his effectiveness but maybe coming off the bench lster in a game puts the opposition on the back foot for a while. Be surprised if he is still here after the window shuts.

Re: Weghorst
If Parker can show he’s part of the squad then that helps our negotiating position rather than a player who isn’t involved and not getting any game time.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 10:42 pmWe had Hountondji and Jay on the bench as well as Weghorst. Parker chose to bring Weghorst in ahead of the pair of them…why would he do that if a move was imminent and he wasn’t planning on keeping him around? His first game time since the Euros to get him some match fitness. At 4-1 the natural change to rest Foster would have been Hountondji to give him his first taste of English football in a less pressurised phase of a game.
Perhaps Wout is staying .
I still think he’ll be gone by the end of the window. Probably to Turkey and probably on subsidised wages until the end of his deal.

Re: Weghorst
Playing one striker as many teams do really does limit the chances for some of these players, especially in a position like ours where we have lots of Premier League capable players who may only want to be in the Championship if they start.
That’s the reason I feel certain Weghorst will go in this window. Probably back to Holland is my guess.

I'd like him to stay as I think he's a very good player, and who knows how long Foster will be okay?

The Contingent from Cornwall both believe he has been given a clean slate.
We both feel he looked happy and what’s more committed.
Must be given a chance to shine.

If he is staying please change the chant for him because on TV it really does sound like he's being bood
Re: Weghorst
The clubs that want him were putting low offers in, possibly thinking that we would be left with an unhappy player so would sell him. Putting him in the team, and him looking happy to be there, might make them up their offers.

Re: Weghorst
I think he'll go because we will likely want to cash in and he's one of those expendable players.
But good plan to put him in the side - teams looking at him will now think that we have plans for him and will be questioning whether they'll actually get the bargain they presumably want.
If we keep him though he'll be excellent in the Championship. He'll score goals for sure and from a pure team strength perspective I hope we hold on to him.
Nor will it be particularly bad business to let him go on a free if he fires us to promotion, bags us another guaranteed £200m and a shot at doing the premier league properly this time.

Re: Weghorst
If he wanted to stay and give 100% I'll back him, but the cynic in me says it was nothing more than giving him some minutes (and putting him in shop window) to keep him match sharp for a probable sale this month.

It’s to make suitors thing we might be willing to keep him.
Freezing out a player who may be about to move is only going to weaken your negotiating position.
I was pleased last night that we picked our strongest available squad. Good management.

Really good management to get him involved. Shows everyone has a chance so great for squad morale. Was good to see Scott pacing around the pre match exercises too.

Re: Weghorst
Weghorst re- integrated into the squad would be a major development for this season . Personally I would be happy if it happened and maybe a bit disappointed if it didn't happen now that Parker chose to put him on before RodriguesHibsclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 5:16 pmReally good management to get him involved. I want him to stay and have a good season because he's a Burnley player.
But I also want him to stay and have a good season because it will be funny to see how those who have developed an the unruly hatred towards him will cope.

Re: Weghorst
Was it this one? I've heard us sing it for him before. It's to Tom Hark but can't remember what replaced the Rooney line.
I saw my mate the other day,
He said to me he saw the white Pele,
So I asked, who is he,
He goes by the name of Wayne Rooney,
Wayne Rooney, Wayne Rooney,
He goes by the name of Wayne Rooney...
Wayne Rooney, Wayne Rooney, Wayne Rooney

SP is no fool.
He'll know what's gone on and will presumably have had a chat with WW to see where both he and the club stand.
I just want what's best for Burnley FC, I'm sure Scott does too.

Re: Weghorst
Parker in the local rag quoted as saying it is currently an unknown whether Weghorst will stay at the club but that his attitude is top notch hence why he played.
He has been on about needing a long term home for his large family, the key is if he wants that to be Manchester. And what his wage is compared to elsewhere. I suppose the other key is if he chooses to see out his contract if there are few offers, and get a final payday on a free.
In that Parker’s previous two promotions have included Mitrovic and Solanke (both better players than Wout, who I still like as a player) it isn’t totally unrealistic.

Re: Weghorst
Every chance Weghorst is thinking a season winning most weeks and sat on a (presumably) decent salary with us wouldn't be such a bad thing considering he will be on a free transfer in a years time and be maybe quite desirable to clubs that are currently unwilling to pay a fee (Ajax etc).
I think bringing him on ahead of Jay and Houtondji was quite telling personally, says to me that as it stands he is staying and both parties are happy with that (unless we get an Ajax/PSV coming in on deadline day etc).

Re: Weghorst
Also telling was Brownhill's comment about having tactics for different opposition. I would imagine in quite a few games this season where teams deploy a low block, we might switch to a 4-4-2

Re: Weghorst
Get over yourself bud. He’s a great player and if he wants to play he should be playing. In this league with this squad he would have an absolute field day.Hbclaret007 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 10:28 pmDidn't want to play for us when first relegated. Why should he be playing for us now? I'd have brought jrod on. Anyone who refuses to be a claret doesn't deserve to play.
Why all the animosity to him from some fans? Other players have wanted to leave and everyone has said ‘good luck’ to them. Give the guy a break and he might find himself back in the PL without leaving us.
