Tresor hasn’t played much for us, plus he’s 25yrs old
Spurs might feel that Odebert suits them better and has a bigger development arc
Amdouni - maybe Spurs didn’t see enough in him last season to tempt them into buying him

Good post. My feelings exactly. Good for everyone and doesn't leave us with a gaping hole in terms on positions. Good luck to himSelby Claret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 11:57 amSelling a player for £25m-£30m in a position where we have cover if it means that we can play harder ball or even refuse suitors for Berge / O'Shea also makes sense to me - if thats the case
And some are bemoaning not having him in the PL next year or the cost to replace him in the PL next year - we still have to get there yet....

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
As much as it is disappointing in losing him as he’s an exciting player, the fact that we’ve made virtually a 200% profit on a player cannot be underestimated.
We are always going to be that “stepping stone” club and that’s not a bad thing. Young players will see that we can give them the opportunity to make a name for themselves

Let's give Anass a chance. He'll only need to get a few successful crosses in at TM and he'll be lifted enormously.

Annas is like a new signing ... you can't rate his season in a poor hull side ... he will get a lot more space and opportunities with us ....Stonehouse wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 12:59 pmWe may have plenty of wingers but as I said Zaroury was poor last season,Benson is rather fragile JBG isn’t fast enough to play on the wing so we may be relying on Koleshoe and who else?
Vitinio lit up that right side so has to also be in the mix
Wout and foster switching 9 and 10 roles if he stays
We have a ridiculous amount of riches.... ridiculous

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Very sad, obviously, but it's a position we can cover and hopefully helps balance the books a bit more.
Can anyone remind me what we paid for Odobert.
Good luck to the lad at Spurs, he hasn't been here long enough to cement himself into Claret folklore, but it will be interesting following his career.

Great business for the club and he was the one player who showed glimpses of real class and top goals too .just need to clear out O’Shea , Berge and others so we have our actual real squad . Sure all “will” be huge misses at this level but we’ve a top quality side and should have money in the bank .

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Exactly.
Talented youngsters come here, get their PL platform, play well and we won’t stand in their way when a decent offer comes in.
Add a manager pragmatic enough to utilise different tactics to keep us in the PL and it would be an excellent formula.
Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
After Monday, it'll be Vitinho on the right, Koleosho on the left. Zaroury and Benny as back ups.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 12:59 pmWe may have plenty of wingers but as I said Zaroury was poor last season,Benson is rather fragile JBG isn’t fast enough to play on the wing so we may be relying on Koleshoe and who else?
It's a number 10 we've lost, but for there we have Amdouni and JBG, then Ramsey when he's back.
Not forgetting we can switch to 4-4-2 and have Weghorst or Jay alongside Foster.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
However sad it is to be selling such a bright prospect, it is fantastic business and lessens the need to sell other players. I said a few weeks ago that of Berge, O Shea and Odobert , the latter was easier to replace. Now he had been playing as a No 10, and I think this will pave the way for Amdouini. Last Monday Koleosho and Vitinho were wide players and were great, and Zarourry can step in as he showed, plus Benson who we know is a great impact wideman sub. Then of course there is Tresor who will have a point to prove when fit

I believe Alan Pace (and Kompany) have never made a secret of our strategy to buy young talents at a reasonable price then sell at the right time for profit.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 10:38 amAbsolute nonsense selling one of our top players let's hope we have a 25% sell on and a £20m fee .I feel similar to I did years ago when Ralph Coates left , let down by our board.
Only the future can tell if we sold Odobert at the right time and if we got the true value.
Either way, we seem to have made one hell of a profit and in any walk of life that is a cracking piece of business.
As for the time we sold Ralph Coates, hadn't we just been relegated then as well?

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Only surprise here is that anyone thought he’d be with us for this season.
Clearly got huge potential but still a lot to learn. Fee just shows how wild the football transfer market is these days as he’s not worth 30mil. Happy for spuds to overpay us though, obvs.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Transfermarkt
Says €29.7 fee
- Fee could rise to £30m with add-ons included.
- Burnley have a 10% of profit sell-on clause.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
Disappointing but that's the model. We have 2 quality championship teams within our squad so in isolation, its not something to panic over.
Good deal - especially if there is a sell on clause.

Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
I think we still have to sell or loan 6 over 21's to get down to a 25man squad
Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
On top of those we have Vintinho, Tresor, Redmond, Ramsey and Agyei. Then Twine has played left wing before. We also have Masara and Richardson in the U21s.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 12:59 pmWe may have plenty of wingers but as I said Zaroury was poor last season,Benson is rather fragile JBG isn’t fast enough to play on the wing so we may be relying on Koleshoe and who else?

Bonne chance Wilson ! Sad to see you go but not surprised .Well done VK for spotting a bargain .
Re: ARTICLE: Odobert leaves for Spurs
We still have 4 first team wingers (Koleosho, Zaroury, Benson and Vitinho*) plus Twine who can play there. Plus Agyei who is apparently on the fringes of the first team. Richardson and Masara can be depth, personally from what I've seen of both I feel they could be emergency backup players at this level**.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2024 1:37 pmWe wont be seeing Tresor, Redmond or Ramsey anytime soon. Absolutely no shortage in this position.
*seems to be considered a winger by Parker
** personally feel Richardson needs to be involved this year or moved on, he is a first team footballer in terms of ability, playing U21 football is a waste for him

It’s very clear from the Berge and O’Shea links that we are not prepared to accept any old offer.
We’ve got a good price for him here.

It would be madness not to accept £25mill plus £5m in add ons ...
He did ok last year but i wouldnt say he was outstanding , everyone knows the policy of the current owners , buy young ones and sell for profits , so its inevitable players will leave ,especially when we need to bridge an income gap of approx £40million this season.

A great move for Wilson, and fantastic business by the club. Sad we won’t see him him develop into the player he’s going to be but shows young talent that Burnley is a club that can propel you into the stratosphere. Burnley simply cannot, and have never been able to turn down an offer like that. Sure some of our investors will be sleeping a little easier tonight and others will be looking on with new interest at the possibilities: they will know the higher we fly the more this kind of offer will come in. All good, including for Wilson.

It's excellent business, no ifs or buts.
Sad to lose him, but hope he does well.
At this stage of the transfer window, a club the size of ours will always be subject to raids from the likes
of Spurs, it's not just us.
Onwards and upwards you Clarets.

Sad loss but for £30m+ it isn't exactly a bad deal for us.
I just hope we can hang on to O'Shea, Esteves and Koleosho. I think they are our most important players this season. Even Berge going wouldn't be the end of the world.

Well I’d be amazed if either stay , isn’t O’Shea’s deal almost done and Berge surely doesn’t return . Though Steve is staying after not getting the deals his agent was touting around . “ sold “ “ cleared out” “ kicked all the way up arse” or perhaps leave on good terms ( which they will ) it matters not the terminology.
