JJ just seen north of Exeter carrying Whittaker on a sudan chair single-handedly.

It just seems odd. Everything at the club feels so temporary nowadays. I'm really starting to miss the Dyche/Garlick days of stability and boring transfer windows.

Presumably we've had some encouragement to have gone in with another loan to buy offer.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
First one was an option, this is an obligation (for all intents and purposes it’s a permanent signing, like Tresor & Esteve). Usually done for cash flow reasons.

I cannot see why Plymouth would accept a loan with obligation. If he's a good character a deferred payment is of zero use to them. Use the Amdouni, Twine, Weghorst sales to fund it.

Doesn’t help Plymouths immediate cashflow issues though. Which when it comes to it, is all that counts.

Depends on the loan fee.
They can be quite clever about these types of deals.
Could be for example a really high loan fee for this year that’s let’s say 4m. Then the transfer fee is paid over 5 years starting next season.

I’ve been listening to a few podcasts and that seems to be the popular method for transfers these days.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 3:03 pmI thought the exact same, 4m loan fee with another 6 or 7m to make it perm
From the sounds of it the loan sections of the deal are incredibly high
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Even if we bid 10m, they'd only get the first installment now which could be the same as the loan fee anyway.

Maybe it's some weird accounting trick. Defer the payment until next year and the books look different. I don't know if it applies to us but sometimes clubs do it to meet FFP rules.

Depends whether whoever they are buying from wants to defer their money too.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 3:07 pmSo many people on X not understanding that an obligation means Plymouth can actually spend the money now, knowing they have that money coming in. Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Loan with an obligation to buy isn’t that stupid an idea to be honest. We’d have to pay slightly above market value as Plymouth would need to take out a loan against the future income. So we’d have to buy the player and cover loan costs. We get to defer payment for 12 months, Plymouth still get their cash to reinvest. And payment in 12 months for us is likely to coincide with receipt of the Zeki money from Benfica. Or Trafford if he leaves and the deal is structured in a similar manner. Same if Lyle goes on loan with an obligation.

There's levels to all of this in so many ways isn't there. Last season you're signing your future France International that youll flog for 30m to Spurs and it's Ornstein and Romano announcing it.
This year you're signing Swansea cast offs and it's being called by a bloke called Nick Mashiter from backwater FM

I guess Plymouth can use the obligation to get a loan for the full amount, so does in fact cover their short term needs.

Pretty standard thing for a manager to say don’t you think. Wouldn’t go down well with the fans if he turned around and said ‘yeah we are working with clubs to sell Morgan’Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 3:18 pmhttps://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/sport/ ... ey-9516279

Surely then it's only an effective trick for one year? As next summer the payment will show up and make the spending that year more difficult. Obviously in our case,.if we get promoted it would help mask that. But lots of clubs seem to be doing it, even ones that are unlikely to have any change in divisionnorthernpowerhouse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 29, 2024 3:09 pmMaybe it's some weird accounting trick. That refers to the option to buy as opposed to the obligation to buy
