Norovirus prevented me I’m pleased to say. Spewing was more enjoyable than watching that.

They were competent, not superb.Cornwallclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:31 amNo one has actually commented on how good qpr defended..they were superb unfortunately,we couldn’t break them down, frustrating yes but it’s the nature of the beast for us this season, especially at home. We will have to learn of course but we had our team ripped apart leading up to the end of the window and a new team assembled in a week and yet we’re still 2nd. Frustrated at the end,yes but booing,no chance, give your head a wobble. I mean look at where Luton are currently
And they aren't the first side to leave the Turf with a point just because they can do the basics of defending their box, and I'm pretty confident they won't be the last.
Re: Booing
People keep saying don't compare this situation to Kompanys start in 2022, but there are a few similarities.
After 12 games under VK we had just drew at home to Stoke in a game where we had 68% possession and had 1 shot on target. We sat 5th in the league on 19 points (w4 D7 L1) - Goals scored 19 - conceded 12
We were 5 points off the top of the table (sound familiar)
Most of those early games were very similar to the one yesterday. Lots of possession, teams come to the turf with a low block etc
The question is, why is there so much vitriol to Parker, when Kompany hardly had any murmurings during the same period? I remember a lot of those games being drab affairs lit up with Worldies from Tella or Benson.
Kompany had a blank slate and got to bring in all his own players. Parker has a mix of his players and Kompany's players, and hardly a lot of time to bring new players in when all the chaos ensued.
Plus a **** tonne of injuries.
This is why I think we are struggling to see an identity. We have to give the guy time and more of a chance. Football is about cohesion, finding right balances and gelling as a team. Look at Robert's pass to Agyei near the end which went out of play. Different wavelengths which will improve with game time.

Coincidentally, I watched this today. Only 25 minutes.
Food for thought.

I did on another thread and also added that they have taken 5 points away at the 3 teams that played in the PL last season, a win and 2 draws.Cornwallclaret wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 9:31 amNo one has actually commented on how good qpr defended..they were superb unfortunately,we couldn’t break them down, frustrating yes but it’s the nature of the beast for us this season, especially at home. For some they will only see as far as the league position when we don't beat a team at the bottom but conveniently forget our league position when they are writing nonsense about sacking Parker, booing , and all the other rubbish they write

A very good question. Unfortunately followed up with one of those nonsense revisionist statements which is why you're stuck on the answer to it.Ric_C wrote: ↑Sun Oct 27, 2024 2:53 pm

I mean, for one, we had 6 shots on target in that game against Stoke - not 1. I wonder why you got that so massively wrong? Intentional or is your memory of that time not quite crystal clear.
Maybe it's because at this stage that season in our last 4 home games we'd scored 7 goals as opposed to 3? And hadn't witnessed the team draw a blank in nearly 2 months. Maybe it's because we were seeing progress, saw there was actually a plan. Maybe it was because we didn't have a manager calling a 0-0 against second bottom, where we never looked like scoring a goal, our "best performance of the season". The football certainly wasn't "drab" as you've put it, our concerns were with the soft underbelly, to concede soft equalisers.
I then like the bit where you say Kompany having a blank slate is in his favour when those backing Parker to the hilt have spent the last 8 weeks saying he's been dealt a bad hand because there's been too many changes made. You can't have it both ways.

Under Kompany we could see where we were heading. There was frustration at the time it took, but it was a total revolution at the time.
Under Parker I have no idea where we are supposed to be heading, but if we get promoted I'm terrified of heading into the Prem with Tedious-Parker at the Helm, it will be horrific.

I got it from a stats site so if it was wrong then I apologise for misleading information. Quite why you think I would do this intentionally is anyones guess.Mattster wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 7:36 amA very good question. Let me get this clear, I'm not backing Parker to the hilt, I'm very much on the fence with him. But there are a lot of mitigating circumstances that we need to consider, where I think he deserves a bit more slack than he is currently getting.
It is quite clear now that those who never wanted Parker in the first place can't wait to get their pitchforks out when things are not looking so rosy.

Re: Booing
The main difference from Kompany's first season to this is we appear not to have a true identity and don't have a goalscorer available. The former i am sure will come with time but the latter is on the board.
Re: Booing
I guess the main question is why was there suddenly a mass exodus in the last week of the window? If we knew certain players wanted out no matter what, then we should have planned better and brought in reinforcements earlier. Our business in the last few days was almost desperate, and it is a minor miracle we have some semblance of a decent side after all that. I'm really hoping the board hit the ground running in January as it is quite clear where the deficiencies lie with this squad.

One thing that has not been taken into account here, which I think is worth a mention, is that VK had the benefit of coming after a manger that played direct football.burnley007 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 8:29 amVery well put.

There were deficiencies in the early days of VK, but it didn’t attract the same level of criticism because largely we were just happy to see attractive football after 18 months of shocking football under Dyche.
If it had been Parker after Dyche, then I don’t think the criticism of him would’ve been the same, certainly not to the extent that people would be calling for his head after 12 games.

Re: Booing
Saturday was frustrating in that we couldn't get the breakthrough, however we would have had loads on target had it not been for countless blocks by the QPR defence. Am I alone in thinking / remembering, that early on Kompany said we didn't need an out and out striker? There are so many similarities between this season and that one, it's just we hadn't seen that season play out at the time. This season may be as good or not but I think that Parker deserves a bit longer than 12 games for fans to be wanting him out!
