Trafford 6
Roberts 6
Egan-Riley 8 mom another good game has stepped up well
Esteve 6 steady
Pires 7 much more of an attacking threat with him on
Cullen 6
Brownhill 5
Anthony 7 robbed of a goal
Sarmiento 6
Koleosho 5
Flemming 5
A better performer and at least Parker tried to deal with the issues from the last match. Robbed by the inept ref but we still look a bit toothless and not many leaders on the pitch including the captain.

Brownhill 5 - lacks quality
Cullen 7 - better, but would like to see him play forward more often
Sarmiento 8* - worked hard, caused problems, should have scored
Anthony 6 - works hard
Koleosho 5 - in years to come they’ll name a cup-de-sac after him
Flemming 5 - not sure what type of player he is yet.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
Koleosho was awful tonight.
He had one decent moment where he beat his man and put a good cross in.
So many times he overran the ball, ran into their players or just gave the ball away with a poor pass. We moved him to the left in the second half and he was even worse. The most frustrating thing is that there were a lot of occasions when he lost the ball when we were in a great position with players free. Until he starts lifting his head up and stops running down blind alleys he’s not going to improve.
Of course he is young and we need to work with him but Curtis Davies after the match called it spot on. He said we were lacking leaders on the pitch to speak to Koleosho during the game when he is giving the ball away and making the wrong decisions like tonight. He said there’s no point telling him in training - he needs telling during the game.

Anthony just needs to be a bit braver, think his confidence is low after barely having a kick all last year but he was robbed of a good goal tonight.
To his credit he's getting into some good positions and nicked the ball numerous times tonight.
Back our gaffer - once we get the rest of our players back we'll be laughing. UTC!

CJ ER -8 excellent game from the double barrelled battler
Estève - 7 cool as beans again from Steve

Brownhill 5 -Et tu Josh ?huffed n puffed but largely ineffective
Sarmiento 7 quick and dangerous from the Brighton lad,and at last staking a claim with a hard action slippery performance .
Fleming 5 the Millwall Pele ain’t no no 9
Koleosho -5 poor end product for the dreadlocked dribbler
Anthony 6 *+1 for “goal” - more Hackney Cab than Hackney Flyer drifted out the game like a half time fart .

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford 6 Nothing much to do but at least no scary moments
Roberts 7 Constantly tried to make something happen and passed the ball with a bit more purpose tonight
Egan-Riley 8* Excellent MoM
Esteve 7 Defensively solid but still iffy distribution
Pires 7 Good going forward but got caught out of position several times especially 1st half
Cullen 6 Better from Josh but we still need more
Brownhill 5 Anonymous, we know he`s capable of better than this and it`s been several games, being captain shouldn`t guarantee him a starting slot and he certainly doesn`t warrant one at the moment
Anthony 7 Looked better on the right, worked hard and had a perfectly good goal ruled out
Koleosho 5 Poor really and he has no excuse now he`s on his favoured left, the coaching staff need to do some serious work with him because he has talent
Sarmiento 7 Worked hard and caused them problems at times but he should really have done better with his 1 v 1
Flemming 6 Parker needs to grow a pair and play two up front and let him play off one of the big lads and then I believe we will see more from him, he`s not a No 9
Better than it`s been for a few games but SP has to stick to his guns and continue getting the ball forward quicker and hopefully better quality service to our front men might just pay off

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
Just got back home. Frustration is the word. I've been very vocal in my dislike of recent performances. We've been far too cautious but tonight was a little different. We still look short in the final third but Sarmiento added another dimension and Pires is a real threat, although his defending leaves a lot to be desired. I've said I don't expect much, I just want to see progress and a plan. I felt we had that tonight and if it weren't for the most blatantly "home" referee I've seen in years, we would have walked away from the Hawthorns with three points.
Trafford 6 - a spectator for most of the evening
Roberts 6 - still not sure what he was booked for, and I don't understand how we only got a drop ball after he was cleaned out?
Pires 6 - great going forward but he was a problem in the first half. He needs to improve the defensive part of his game. He offers more than Koleosho as an attacking outlet though!
Esteve 7 - standard Steve
CJ - 8 - terrific again, growing in stature by the game
Cullen 6 - another soft yellow, but did better than recent weeks
Brownhill 5 - anonymous. Something isn't right with Josh. He's not breaking up play like we know he can. He needs to offer more as a senior member of the team.
Sarmiento 7 - some lovely moments. Should have scored in the first half though.
Anthony 6 - should have been the match winner, but similar to Brownhill, I feel he should be offering more than he currently is.
Koleosho 3 - did he beat a man or find a Burnley shirt once tonight? Awful. I'd be tempted to drop him and push Pires forward. He's offering absolutely nothing.
Flemming 4 - he's not a striker but I'm amazed anyone thinks he's a no.10. His touch is dreadful. That said, we need to get more balls into the box.

Liked our performance tonight and we were robbed by a useless referee. Considering his performance the rest of the match it’s almost no surprise he gave a foul there, despite how diabolical a call it is.
Defence is absolutely fine and we need to be more decisive up top. Some good signs tonight mainly via Sarmiento.
Think Koleosho needs a rest, and Brownhill needs to step up.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
From TV.
Trafford - 6 - Solid. No real saves required. Kicking OK.
Roberts - 5 - Deducted point for stupid feud with Maja. Knowing Roberts’s history he was no innocent. Defended OK and got forward promisingly, particularly later in the match.
Egan-Riley - 8 - MoM - Another very good display, solid defensively, including a super block, and good balls forward. Offers little at corners
Esteve - 8 - Back to his best. Even played some forward balls. Offers little at corners.
Pires - 7 - Lively going forward and defended well.
Brownhill - 6 - Quite lively and contributions at both ends of the pitch. Better.
Cullen - 7 - More positive play as well as his defensive work. Much better.
Sarmiento - 8 - Made a real difference on the right side with energy and control. Some good work with Anthony.
Anthony - 7 - Looked a threat on the right and worked well with Sarmiento. Unlucky with the goal, although if you are not going to push a player why put your hands on his back?
Flemming - 5 - Worked hard but not a lot happened for him. He’s not the answer.
Koleosho - 4 - Docked a point for some stupid fouls. On apparently his favoured left, he was equally ineffective as he has been lately, despite good attacking support from Pires. Whilst sides still consider him a threat I suppose he’s worth a place but we need something better.
Well, that was much better. We carried a real goal threat at times whilst still retaining, mostly, a solid defence, and can consider ourselves unlucky not to have won with Anthony’s harshly disallowed goal and Pires shot on the post. There may be two reasons:
1. We upped our tempo.
2. WBA were more open then teams we’ve played recently.
Placing Sarmiento and Anthony on the right worked well and if we can get Roberts up there too, as he did later in the game, we should present some threat on that side. Unfortunately the only threat on the other wing was Pires. Koleosho is not performing at all and he’s had enough time to settle in but he keeps making the same wrong decisions and poorly weighted passes.
The focal point in attack, Flemming, didn’t work and I’ve not yet seen anything that suggests it will. He can’t win many balls in the air, can’t hold up, play that well and poses very little threat on goal.
It seemed we won an unusual amount of corners (actually only 8) but failed to be much of a threat. A stat came up that WBA have had 70 corners this season and scored from none of them. Apart from O’Shea at Luton I can’t think of any other goal from a corner and wonder if our stats are similar (we‘ve had 76 corners!).
We also conceded 20 fouls to add to our high tally for the season although WBA appeared to have a penchant for falling over.
Defensively, despite attacking more, we were pretty solid. However that must be tempered with the fact that WBA are more goal shy then we are - three goals at home all season. When they did create some opportunities it was clear they couldn’t finish.
However, overall a real improvement which I hope we can build on.

Trafford 6
Pires 6 (rather unlucky when he hit the post)
CJER 8
Esteve 7
Roberts 6
Cullen 6
Brownhill 6
Koleosho 6 (so much skill and pace and still far, far too many blind alleys)
Sarmiento 6
Anthony 7 (much improved and literally robbed of a goal)
Flemming 6 (not really a natural CF, but fair play to him he's giving it his best shot)
Laurent 6
Tbf Parker has shown he's well aware of our shortcomings and he's trying to do something about it. We were far more positive last night in every way and played at a much improved tempo. Consequently we dominated throughout and certainly should have won. This was a much better 0-0 than the others recently, but sadly it's still a 0-0 and means we're only just about keeping pace. It's pointless mentioning the disallowed goal as it's so bad a decision it's almost funny!

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
I gave him a 3. From my vantage point in the stand I can't recall a single positive contribution he made. Did he put one cross in towards the end of the game? He ran down blind alleys and misplaced simple 5 yard passes all night. I'm all for protecting our players, but I also think it's fair to highlight genuinely rank performances. He didn't look like a £3m winger last night, never mind £30m.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 07, 2024 10:24 pmI’m a fan of Koleosho but I’m sorry if we are being honest he was abysmal tonight.
Totally ineffective and consistently gave the ball away. I’m honestly not sure where he goes from here because this is coming up 7-8 games in a row where he’s just offered nothing.
I kept a very close eye on him all game tonight, as people have said similar to me after recent performances. I would recommend re watching and keeping an eye on him to see how many mistakes he’s making.
I would like to highlight as well that he only touched the ball 31 times in 89 mins. For comparison Anthony touched the ball 48 times, Sarmiento 43 (in 75 mins). He’s not only ineffective on the ball but he’s not even getting on the ball as much as his counter parts. I know this sounds like a random stat but Koleosho was consistently getting on the ball more than this when in the prem against considerably better opposition.
I'm with you, where do we go from here? He's not capable of breaking down teams who sit in, and last night he was unable to use his pace when we turned the ball over to break away. People are slagging off Anthony's contribution, but he's offering a hell of a lot more than Luca at the moment. I keep coming back to the same phrase, school-boy football. It's ok looking like a bright spark in a crap PL team, there's no great expectation. It's another thing being an effective Championship winger. He's miles off this standard at the moment.
Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
If (and it is a big if) we get Tresor and Redmond back fairly soon, using Luca off the bench, and also having these guys to learn off will hopefully make a massive difference. Feels like there is too much pressure on him atm and he's not delivering.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
Always a good point at the Hawthorns. Thought as a unit we played well with the odd exception. We are definitely making progress but I for one accept it's not going to happen overnight and we need to remain patient.
Trafford 6-Well protected by the solid unit in front of him.
Roberts 8-Played well and got through a lot of work.
CJ* 9 -The lads been brilliant over the last month or so. A work in progress but he's going to be hard to dislodge.
Esteve 9- Oozes class and i've got a feeling we'll be lucky to keep hold of him come January.
Pires 7-Played well and looking a better option at LB than Humphreys.
Cullen 6-Still don't think he's fully up to. speed
Brownhill 7-Think stats will prove he did a lot of leg work.
Anthony 5-Surprised he wasn't subbed for Laurent to be honest. Unlucky with the disallowed goal.
Sarmiento 8-Made a huge difference with his energy.
Koleosho 4-I don't want to be harsh because he's young and an incredible talent but at present found wanting for me.
Fleming 4-Thought he was very poor to be frank. He needs to move better and find pockets or at least move defenders to make space. Also should have done better with header in 1st half although to his credit he was brave.
Laurent 6- Didn't really have long enough to make an impression. Should have been brought on sooner for Anthony imo.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
I think it was a better overall performance,
good goal ruled out for slight touch would the ref have given a penalty if it was the other way round , I don't think he would.
The negatives for me were Koleosho commits to many silly fouls when we are attacking , he is not alone in this but he does for me make to many and holds on to much, I would like to see Flemming playing as a 10 with Hountonji up front with one of Anthony, Sariento, Koleosho on the bench to come on and have impact from the bench.
MOM was Egan Riley. The others between 6 and 8 as a score as they all played better than Sunday

Was much better than he was Sunday v Millwall, of course that wouldn't be hard, but I thought he had a decent game last night.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
Trafford 7 - Not much to do, better distribution going direct when required.
Roberts 6 - thought he was more positive tonight and his experience is valuable as shown in his battle with Maja.
Egan Riley 8 - Starting to really look the part and making himself first choice. Those blocks very reminiscent of Ben Mee.
Esteve 6 - Solid. good distribution
Pires 6 - Offers much more going forward and definitely helps with the over play of the team but he does get exposed.
Brownhill 6 - Solid.
Cullen 7 - Back to what we except setting the play from midfield
Sarmiento 7 - Added a bit more fluidity and creativity to the front line.
Anthony 7 - Worked hard. Should have had a goal.
Koleosho 5 - Runs lots, very little end product.
Flemming 6 - Held the ball up well at times but lacks that strikers instinct to get into the best positions to get a chance and grab a goal.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
I was thinking that too regarding Pires. Definitely has better footwork and vision than Koloeosho.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2024 12:27 amJust got back home.
Be good to see him play the wing and slot Humphreys at left back

I was at the game, but it's only watching the highlights back that you can see how unlucky Flemming is in the first half. He beats the hopelessly committed keeper to the ball and his header cannons off the goalie's shoulder and he knows nothing about it. 9 times out of 10 they go in.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
What’s laughable ?
That on a ratings thread people have different opinions ?
We had at least 2 players last night who had terrible games. Koleosho was definitely one of them and it’s no surprise that a number of people scored him a 3. Does not mean they are right or wrong - it’s just their opinion. But given the number of people who have scored him 3 or 4 it’s hardly laughable.

The only agenda is yours.
You seriously think that all the people who have scored Koleosho or other players 3s and 4s have an agenda ? That’s got to be at least half of those who have posted ratings who :
1. Have a wrong opinion
2. Should not be watching football
3. Have an agenda
As for whether some of the players were playing the worst they could possibly play ?
I mean that is a pretty stupid and irrelevant question. Of course they could play worse. But that does not mean that they were not abysmal in the view of plenty of people last night.
You seen to be really struggling with this ratings concept.

Re: West Brom v Burnley - Player Ratings
Scoring is from 3 to 10 as follows:
10 - Out of this World
9 - Excellent
8 - Very Good
7 -Good
6 - Average
5 - Below Par
4 - Poor
3 - Abysmal
People have the individual right to mark players as they deem fit, however this thread has a scoring system.
Stick to that and it's literally one opinion against another, the option to add a comment next to a player allows a poster to justify the score.
Seems simple.

I watched the second half and heard the commentator say he’d been moved to the left so presumed wrongly he’d been switched at half time.
Hope that’s ok with you ? I know you like to make up all the rules on here.
He was awful in the second half - I haven’t posted any ratings.
I’m pointing out like other people are that it’s a ratings thread based on opinions - many of whom scored koleosho very lowly. Take what you want with a pinch of salt. The fact that you too dumb to understand the simple concept of the thread is not really much of a surprise based on your fruit loop rantings on Trafford last season.

Fruit loop rants about Trafford maybe is your opinion, my opinion is I was proved right as he wasn't ready for premier league football and rightly got dropped.

I thought he had one of the worst individual performances I’ve seen in a long long time.
I think in 89 mins he did one thing well. The rest of the time he was just a very clumsy and sloppy player. In my opinion he was abysmal because I don’t think he could have done much worse.

If it wasn't about opinions then there would be no need for the thread in the first place.
Personally I've always seen 6 as average and for me Koleosho was a 5. Below par. He always looked a threat and WBA knew it and his pace kept WBA further back at times, even though he ran into trouble more often than not. A great cross from the left which he should have done 10 times, not once. Also pressed quite well but overall it was below average.
