Re: Trial By Media
I wonder how many people have met Greg Wallace in person to be able to comment on what he's like. Social media and news is way overhyped these and they make the smallest story into something massive. I won't judge anybody on these stories, Greg Wallace might actually be very nice in person so I'm not going to pass judgement on him.
I do think a lot of these complainants are seeked out by reporters and the bbc and would otherwise have not bothered coming forward. A lot of them just want the attention in the media or compensation that can follow and jump on the bandwagon. Have you ever worked with or come across a group of women on a night out. They can be far more suggestive and course than most men and trust me women in high positions can be far worse than their male counterparts.
Unfortunately the world has WOKED up and not for the better.

Re: Trial By Media
BBC have announced that they have pulled the Celebrity MasterChef episodes due to be aired over Christmas. Suits me fine as I never watch any shows featuring “celebrities“ be it The Chase, Antiques Roadshow etc. etc. It seems most of Gregg’s indiscretions took place on the “celebrity” version which only features “B celebrities” anyway.
I do watch MasterChef The Professionals as I enjoy cooking (and eating).

They can pull it as much as they like, I won't miss it. No problem with The Chase though, any quizzes I'm well up for.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:11 pmBBC have announced that they have pulled the Celebrity MasterChef episodes due to be aired over Christmas. No problem with quizzes which I enjoy being an avid watcher of The Chase (minus B Celebrities). Worst programme of all is I’m A Celebrity featuring not only B celebrities but also the awful Ant & Dec.hoosier-daddy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:15 pmThey can pull it as much as they like, I won't miss it. We agree on quite a bit, but I do like I'm a celeb - depending on who the celebs are. This year has actually been a decent watch.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 5:27 pmNo problem with quizzes which I enjoy being an avid watcher of The Chase (minus B Celebrities). Stone him ....
Writing in her book, the former presenter, 54, claimed Wallace greeted her on the show by asking if models eat food, which she said she found 'unprofessional' and laced with 'ignorance and disrespect'.

Re: Trial By Media
Pretty sensible question. Some models are so skinny they do look like they don't eat

Whatever you think about all this - it's funny how we have a habit of making celebs out of weird ugly blokes. If he worked in an office or factory, everyone working there would have marked him down as an oddbod and given him a wide berth, but when it comes to TV, we laud them as national treasures.

Hopefully celebrity jungle is getting pulled from air too

Did you ever meet Jimmy Saville ?Firthy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 4:18 pmI wonder how many people have met Greg Wallace in person to be able to comment on what he's like. If not did you pass any judgement on him ?
And no I’m not comparing Wallace to Saville at all but making the point that in today’s age more than ever people will pass judgement on others without meeting them.
Not sure what your definition of Woke is. For me that term seems to be often used by those who would like us to return to some bygone era where they seem to think society was a better place.
If everything or even the majority of what is being reported Wallace has said and done is true is that the kind of thing you are talking about as the world not being better because those making the allegations are upset about it ? Would things be better in your eyes if they just passed it off as a bit of banter and just got on with it ?

Are you really posting just here to slag me off?
I'm just somebody who is prepared to say what I believe in. No more than that.
How is it "disingenuous" to criticise trial by media, which -rightly or wrongly- is very clearly what is happening in this case?
It’s not trial by media. All the MSM have done, quite rightly, is to bring to light the fact that a number of allegations of inappropriate behaviour have been made against him. That these allegations portray him in a poor light is not their fault. What would you have them do, say nothing and ignore the matter? Reporting facts is not the same as putting someone trial.
The only people to have tried him are those who have chosen to make their opinions of him public.
I do not "dislike the BBC" - I am critical here of several newspapers as well as the BBC.
You don't mention any newspapers but you specifically identify the BBC four times in your opening post. On two occasions you liken it to the now defunct News of the World. In the light of of this do you really expect me to believe that your not singling out the BBC and using this story to have a thinly veiled go at them?
If you want to contribute, perhaps go about addressing the issue that is the topic of the thread?
Are you defending Trial by Media? We don't know because your post is nothing other than a rude personal attack against me.

1. You could have written this before you posted the abusive post aimed at me.
2. You're free to believe that this isn't trial by media. Plenty will disagree with you. It's got all the hallmarks of trial by media to most people I know
3. You're plain wrong about the newspapers. Maybe if you read the thread you'd have realised this?
It's a bit late to undo the abusive post on this thread -it's there for all to see- but maybe think harder before directing personal insults in the future.
All the best & good night.

Re: Trial By Media
8 of us with an average age of 70, all blokes have our own walking group on Tuesdays, Last of the summer wine just more of us. We generally chat about 3 core subjects, football, sex, TV from the 60's to present day then repeat subjects.
Today we got onto this Greg subject and were soon talking about, Benny Hill, Dick Emery and Bernard Manning. Then added Ricky Gervais and Jim Davidson at which point we accepted we had forgotten the original reason for this topic and so went back to the FA Cup draw as we support, Burnley, Chelsea x 2 , Spurs, Grimsby, Brentford, Leeds and Stoke. Maybe next Tuesday we will stick to the topic a bit longer but I will not hold my breath.

Sorry....you've got me there.
Are you suggesting that that pucture somehow equates to Wallace's (alleged) conduct?
Please tell me you're not.

After the Newsnight interview his ghost writer did last night, I think that might be the end for Wallace now.

You watched the interview for the explanation as to why she finished the book or you still adamant it’s all a bit of innocent banter from the cheeky chappie barrow boy ?
