Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
What is the fascination in our ex players, and wanting them back. Taylor could not even make the squad in a dreadful Saints team. Good servant for us, and sound defender, but very one dimensional-cannot even make the simplest pass with his right foot, and a very poor attacking player. His crosses were often poor. Humphreys is a brilliant prospect, Pires a good option but not first choice, plus we have Dodgson in the squad

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
In all honesty I think the answer to your question is that we’ve seen a drop off in quality in recent years. Fans remember our players at their best, which is understandable.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 9:26 amWhat is the fascination in our ex players, and wanting them back. Re: Taylor, I don’t think he’s what we need in the Championship but for some added experience I think we could do far worse than add him to the squad if we went up.
These aren’t the the type of signings that are going to make big differences to the outcome of this season though. They’re at the other end of the pitch.

Taylor would compete with Humphreys - not replace him. Pires is the one who isn’t up to the required standard for a top two team at this level.

I’d be amazed if we aren’t amongst the clubs looking at Cannon. Ticks a lot of boxes. One for the future but can also contribute here and now.

No reason at all to be looking at bringing Taylor back.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:39 amTaylor would compete with Humphreys - not replace him. Pires is the one who isn’t up to the required standard for a top two team at this level.
If Humphrey’s is seen as number one at left back, Pires is fine for now as a back up. We have the best defence in the league.
There are far more important areas to be spending money on, particularly when the squad is already bloated and we presumably need to spend sensibly.

From what I’ve seen so far of him we need better than Pires as back up.DCWat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:11 amNo reason at all to be looking at bringing Taylor back.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We can't be wasting money on a third left back when we already have the best defence in the world, four non playing centre halves, dubious finances and no creativity.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
He's a weird one Pires. I sort of like him. He's a bit gangly, unorthodox and extremely inconsistent. But every now again he shows the odd glimpse of a very good player. It maybe an area to look at in summer but for now let's see how he develops for the rest of the season.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
But as a priority and would Taylor be the answer?Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:14 amFrom what I’ve seen so far of him we need better than Pires as back up.
Pires may improve, this being his first season in English football. He’d certainly need replacing if we were promoted.
For now, unless we shift a few out (or find a real difference maker at left back) I’m comfortable with Humphrey’s and Pires as a back up.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Pires is talented but lacks the disciplines of defending. Humphreys has nullified some very good wingers in the past half dozen or so games, and is 100% better aerially than Pires

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Parker just been interviewed on Sky, prior to the match, says they are looking at bringing a striker in during January. Surprised he actually said it, maybe they have someone lined up.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
He didn't say striker but he did say someone in the final third of the pitch.Cirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 11:51 amParker just been interviewed on Sky, prior to the match, says they are looking at bringing a striker in during January. Funny how some people interpret what the manager said different to others ,it’s like Chinese whispers,SP never actually said that they are looking to sign a striker it seems that Conroy must have watched the same interview as me.

Ref is pathetic.
At least 2 yellows. Letting them kick without punishment.

Please can we sign 3 attacking players, these team would be immense if we could score goals.

The most 30 year old looking 17 year old since Luke littler if it’s him
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Surely he’s for the 21s? Watched a clip of him and he’s very small, can’t see him being a first teamer in the Champ.

If we buy we should only buy players who are PL ready. At the moment we probably only have 4 or 5 who are PL ready
