Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
My concern with Whittaker is he’s very lazy.
Bucket loads of ability, but not sure he fits in this team.

Whittaker makes perfect sense. Left footed wide forward, proven at this level and with the potential to improve. Hope we can pull it off.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I would imagine that at this stage in the transfer window, given how complicated it can be to conclude deals in January, we'd have a few irons in the fire. If Whittaker is one of them that'd be no surprise if we were interested in the summer. Doesn't necessarily mean he's our first choice though.
I don't know enough about him to have a strong opinion. Clearly he did well last season but that appeared to be a bit of a bolt from the blue given his mixed record at Swansea, and he's not backed it up this season to any great extent. But at 24, he's just entering his prime years.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We’re in a stronger position to get this done now than we were on deadline day, so I’m optimistic. I base that on everything being up in the air back then, the player and his agent might have been 50/50 on pushing for it at the Plymouth end considering the mass exodus we’d just had and no guarantees of our credentials. Five months on we’re now looking a very good bet for automatic promotion and have a settled, harmonious looking squad. Plymouth are looking certainties for relegation, so you’d think the player will be desperate for this to happen now if he wasn’t before. He could do his ACL on Saturday and be playing in League One in 7 months time (this will be what his agent will be advising, and it’s not wrong is it?).

See it now,
Falls well short. Tbf I think most first bids do
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I’d like to think that we must have some kind of inclination that we can get him especially with the talks from the summer window. It makes sense that a first bid would be rejected but obviously you obviously pay what you think someone is worth.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I wonder if we’re freeing up some funds by offloading Magic Mike? Be a shame.

Need to chime in on this important tangent.
Hipper is correct about modern tank agility. However, the phrase about big machines turning slowly refers to tankers, not tanks.
This particular metaphor has tanked.
Tank you.

For me spurs would be a terrible move for esteve, they already have van der ven who is a left footed cb, not many teams play with two left footed cbs

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We have three of the starting eleven out of contract in 6 months, I cannot see any way they sell Esteve, Trafford or other big targets this window. The players will be told to stay put for now at least, and based on what we see of squad solidarity, I doubt that will be a problem.
I do expect Tresor, Redmond, Ekdal, Delcroix to go. I would prefer Tresor to stay but I cannot see him being Parker’s cup of tea even if he wanted to, which I also doubt.

Tin hat on here, but I'd happily loan Koleosho to Plymouth till the end of the season to sweeten the deal. He needs to be the main man somewhere and at Plymouth, he would have more space to operate than he's been getting in a lot of our games.

That was my first (and only!) thought. He’s a left back though more than a wing back, isn’t he?
My guess is this is a kid.

How much Whittaker is worth and how much we would have to pay to sign him in the January window are probably two different things. Especially as Plymouth are in a relegation battle.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 10:13 pmI can see Esteve going to somewhere in Italy, he'd be class over there.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
An odd one imo
Obviously has talent although, in a struggling team, it's been hidden this season.
If he comes in someone has to go. Anthony we have an obligation to buy I believe. Koleosho who has loads of potential, and with good coaching could prove as good if not better than Whittaker, and Tresor who if fit is better than any of them. A big IF I know.
I hope we don't pay through the nose, just to stand still. Unless we are certain that he improves the first XI I can't see the point.
Just an opinion, so I'd happily be proved wrong.

When you consider JBL moved for 1.5 million Euros Whittaker is massively over priced

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Allowing for the fact that Plymouth have struggled this season (and had Wayne Rooney in charge), Whittaker has delivered one good season.
Plymouth were hardly pulling up any trees the season before, when he hit those very good numbers.
He’s obviously a half decent player, but is he just another of many who had one great season?

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Whittaker is left footed and mainly plays from the right but can operate centrally if needed. We know that Parker likes Anthony on the left (although he’s been very good on the right) and Koleosho has struggled to adapt to lower blocks.
Bringing him in would give the team that balance of both wingers being able to cut in on to their stronger foot, take some pressure off Koleosho who is still extremely inexperienced, and offer us more goal threat.
I do think this would signal the exit of possibly both Redmond and Tresor. Giving us options out wide of :
Anthony
Koleosho
Whittaker
Sarmiento
Benson (injury permitting)

From the Argyle board.
'He pretty much said he would like to play for Burnley in an interview on Argyle TV, so I don’t think there’s much doubt he’d want the move. Whether he pushes for it, is another matter.'

Interesting that even though Parker has the title ‘head coach’ he’s fully in charge of transfer decisions, 3 players signed before he was appointed sambo, Pires and hountondji fully out the picture
