Surely you don't mean Nathan "Bambi on ice" Collins?
Yep, he was liability a few years back and he’s slowly chopped that side of his game out.

Him and Van der Berg are both unbelievable cbs now.

Several posters suggesting Shelvey deal to go ahead, and seemingly coming from Plymouth fans that a final take it or leave it offer has been sent for Whittaker at £12m. Not sure if they are in anyway reliable or just Chinese whispers but a few passing them about on Twitter.

Esteve is great arguably one of the best cbs in the league. But the standard of premier league centre backs is at an all time high.

In all seriousness what team does he get in at the bottom of the table (outside bottom three).

Not sure he gets in at Wolves (there usual three of Doherty, Bueno and Nouri are so rapid and good on the ball).

Everton. Probably be fourth choice.

Spurs. Again probably 4th choice.

West Ham. Again probably 4th choice.

United. Possibly 5th choice.

Palace. Fourth choice

Brentford. Got to fantastic young cbs in Collins and Van Der Berg. Possibly third choice.

Fulham. Again probably 4th choice.

Before I get dogs abuse, I am a massive fan of Esteve I think he has got a very very bright future ahead. But right now (apart from the bottom three clubs) I don’t think he starts for any other premier league side.
You said this two days ago

"Esteve is an excellent defender, the biggest thing that will hold back his career will be his ability on the ball.

If he had Egan Riley’s passing ability I would agree he could go to the top. Right now I think a Crystal Palace or Brentford (mid table is probably where he’s at)"

In one day Brentford and Palace have suddenly better defenders?

I feel like Newcastle’s claims should come with a community note.

“Unbelievable” CB pairing at the heart of one of the leakiest defences in the PL.

PL CBs at an “all time high” in a season where more goals are conceded than in all-bar one season in the last 30-odd.

It’s full on Kammy with everything being unbelievable!

It’s rare as hen’s teeth that something stated as being unbelievable is actually beyond belief!

Only 5 teams in the Premier League have conceded more goals than Brentford.

Just beat me to this.

They concede a lot of goals for a team whose centre backs are "unbelievable"

Look where Brentford are in the table. There leaking goals because of there system. Individually they are Great players.

Similar to how we are so great defensively because of our system.

By your own logic surely Esteve is crap then? He was a part of one of the worst defences in the premier league last year.

You are far more knowledgeable of Premier League footballers than I am so what was his 'liability ' and what has he done to 'chop' it from his game?

Article here from local Plymouth press on the Whittaker situation. Looks like there is reasonable leverage for both sides. From this article, it seems Plymouth need to sell now to draw in funds before the deadline and improve the squad across the board. And his value will go down in the summer if they keep and get relegated.

Less favourable for us is Swansea's sell on fee.

This is the thing, while people may feel 12m is steep for Whittaker, if you say 7m upfront and 5m of add ons relating to promotion, then it actually looks a decent bit of business.

Reading Plymouth’s forum, they are looking to make bids for 2 players, one at Lincoln and one at Blackpool. Their fans think they have too many wingers/attackers, so selling Whittaker makes sense from a financial and squad perspective.

He played well. Surprised Sunderland have managed to get him (other than having worked with Le Bris before). Apparently, there's an obligation to buy clause if the Mackems go up (£20m).

Our defence was much better second half of the season coinciding with his arrival. He was probably our best player with Berge then as well

Wolves usual 3 of Doherty, Bueno and Ait Nouri

Just about sums up your football knowledge, Ait Nouri is a left wing back and Doherty is a right wing back filling in.

Wolves usual 3 was Toti, Dawson and Bueno. They signed Agbadhou from the French league. Toti is out injured atm.

Perhaps you want to ask their fans what they think of him? His father also drinks in a couple of local bars where I live & is quite friendly with a claret that has posted on here in the past. He does have great things to say about Pace & Burnley F.C.

Stockbrokerbelt, I’m not sure if you’re talking of Collins Senior drinking in a couple off London bars, when he comes over for Brentford games, or whether your talking of his local pub in Leixlip near Dublin. 1 of my Dublin Claret friends, drinks in the same pub. Another Dublin Claret sat next to his dad, after a London away game of ours and Brentford had been at home that day. Both say he is very friendly and talks very well of Burnley.

I agree with most of this, just not Shelvey.
Strange, isn't it? Our apparent tactics depending on two wide men, but none that we have seem able to cross a football.
Humphreys is the only one who can cross accurately....the rest are hit & hope.
Anthony being the worst offender, it's almost like they don't practice it.

Good point re Humphreys. People talk about him being a good defender but not always being the most dangerous in an attacking sense, but at Blackburn he put over our one telling cross of the game and it proved enough and on Friday night he put over another peach which was easily our best cross and led to Brownhill heading down for Flemming to fluff his lines.

Humphreys is effective because he gets his crosses in quickly. The wingers are constantly switching feet, losing momentum and letting CBs set themselves. Credit to him for it, he said he's been working on it.

Don't hold your breath on Chinese whispers about whittaker. The club know what they want for him and will not sell him if they don't get their valuation. The first reason I say it, the recent accounts released showed 10.5 million in the bank. Whilst this has been earmarked for infrastructure of the academy etc they can use it for any transfers whilst they wait for the efl to decide on the suitability of the new investors in the club.

Decent signing in my opinion Shelvey, Massengo was clearly not getting a look in , so to replace him with Shelvey who has a good passing range , rocket of a shot and a decent set piece I think is good business.

Now let’s go and get some more creativity and goals .

Leeds, Burnley and Sheffield United are weighing up moves for St. Gallen striker Willem Geubbels 🇫🇷

With eight goal involvements in 13 Swiss Super League games this season, the 23-year-old has impressed

How often do these links with 3/4 clubs named come to fruition? Always a bit suspect . You’d be surprised as well if sheff Utd were in for another having gotten both Cannon and Diaz

Hi there Janner.
I don't read your boards but from what's been posted on here recently, specifically with regards to Saturday it sounds like he's lost interest for the Pilgrims.

I am not 100% sure he's what we need to be honest but there seems to be a pursuit of sorts. It's probably worth looking at what happened to us AFTER the season began; around 15 players left, as they wanted out. It happens, often not much clubs can do about it in the end.

We lost players like Berge, Vitinho, Muric, O'Shea, Odebert, quality players but they wanted to leave so left. No point keeping an unhappy asset.

Whether he ends up here or not who knows? Seems Boro are now keen on making a move for him.
