Newcastle sold Lloyd Kelly for £20m, do Tottenham really think that he is worth the same as Esteve?? Are they for real????

Own goals do happen but it’s very remote that they’d effect the 0-0/no goal scorer discussion.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I’d chuck one of the youth lads in, honestly, there’s nothing to lose. They might not be one up to this level, but he might just have that instinct to want to score.claretspice wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 7:39 amWell that's an odd window. Edwards on paper is a very good signing who will add badly lacking creativity, but the failure to bring in a striker feels like a glaring omission. Neither Foster nor Flemming really want to lead the line physically, neither are natural poachers, and Foster's availability record has been a bit patchy. And then we have Barnes who is a worthy servant but beyond his best at 35.
Time will tell but it doesn't feel like there's enough goals in this team to win 10 or 11 of the last 16, which realistically we will have to assume we need to do to gain automatic promotion.
A. We’re not scoring anyway
B. We’re not winning
C. Forwards aren’t just rated on goals but everything they bring. The forwards are nowhere near undroppable.
D. It will give the crowd a lift. They’ll all be behind him. Just imagine what a lift it will give if one came off the bench for 15 mins and grabbed a winner.
For me, we might as well. It’s not like we’d drop out of the playoffs and carrying on as we are, we aren't getting automatic.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I didn't see links, but I can think of a few players that we might have been interested in that might have added something. I suspect our biggest issue is that we now have 5 loans, so we couldn't accommodate any more in the match day squad. But it's a pity because I'm not sure if everyone gets back to any sort of level of fitness Sarmiento would be getting much game time.TsarBomba wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 10:03 amAgree with everything you are saying.
I think the club in an idea world would’ve strengthened up top, had the right player been available.
I don’t know about you, but I didn’t really see any links that looked to be an upgrade on what we already have.
Grant may have been ok, and offered us something a bit different in terms of stretching opposition defences, but I doubt WBA were ever going to sell considering they have their own promotion push to concentrate on.
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
We don't really know that until Ramsey and Benson are fully fit. I can't see Benson being Parkers cup of tea with his complete lack of work rate.claretspice wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 12:17 pmI didn't see links, but I can think of a few players that we might have been interested in that might have added something. Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I don’t buy into the narrative that a different striker would solve our problems. Adding a wide forward with the ability to drift inside and add goals will help and Edwards (when fit) should provide (with Benson and Redmond hopefully not too far away). That should also help Flemming no end and I think we’ll see the best of him once those players are involved.
I would have liked us to add a creative number 10 too but it would have added to a bloated squad once the injuries return. Sarmiento and Hannibal haven’t offered us anywhere near enough yet in that position.
Have we got enough to go up automatically? I think we might but getting them all in the right order for the right games might be the key to it.

As CJER has proved, given a few games the young lads will make an impact.
Sheff Utd have managed with 18 year old Ryan One leading their line on occasions this season.
That was always my argument with Jay Rod taking a place on the bench as a home grown player, when we could have had one of the U21s on there.
You never know we could have found the player we need by now from our own youth set up.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
“Edwards has signed for Burnley. That deal was probably done in a way to cut Tottenham out of their 35 per cent sell-on clause. Therefore, they will be frustrated about that scenario. How that would have been done is Burnley would have paid a large loan fee, and that isn’t part of the sale of the player. It has been done that way so that Sporting keep the maximum amount of money and Tottenham miss out.
“That has been done on purpose, make no mistake about it.”
Interesting take on why loans with options/obligations happen.

Would Spurs be entitled to anything, as Sporting didn't buy him directly from them?burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 1:43 pm“Edwards has signed for Burnley. I think Brentford tucked the Bastards up in a similar way when Raya went to Arsenal.

This is my thoughts. Surely Spurs do not have a sell on as they sold him to Guimaraes ?

As stated earlier, there are no strikers left in the U21s.
The only "prospect" could be Massara who VK rated highly, he's with the U18s
Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
From looking online and Wikki (not the best I know) it seems that when Spurs sold him to Guimaraes, they only sold 50% of his economic rights (haven't got a clue how this works) . When Sporting purchased him again they only purchased 50% of his economic rights. It also states that Sporting then purchased another 15% of his economic rights while Spurs still held 35%TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 1:53 pmWould Spurs be entitled to anything, as Sporting didn't buy him directly from them?

Two very good signings for them it has to be said. Dennis in particular is a statement. They are going to be pretty handy going forward with Kargbo, Gueye and Dennis now.Steddyman wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2025 11:48 pmTwo deadline day strikers for Rovers: https://x.com/rovers/status/18865616023 ... 6QKwfgixkA

One thing we know about Ash Barnes is he can play with his back to goal, rough up his marker and bring others into play. His goal scoring days are probably behind him but he could be more than useful with Flemming behind him.

We all take our turn: I recall posting a suggestion on a match thread earlier in the season that someone's performance was less than adequate and that he needed subbing off... I had barely pressed send button when he scored a superb goal.
