Dropped kerb parking tickets around Turf Moor

Not sure if this has been a topic before, but hopefully a bit of exposure might help some car drivers.
Every home game we walk into the ground via Lyndhurst Road and Admiral Street. All of the compact streets in the area are full of parked cars. Virtually every home game there are cars already parked across the dropped kerbs at one end of Admiral Street. I presume this is the same on other streets.
I understand the need for dropped kerbs, as the Highway Code says 'Facilitate safer road crossings for pedestrians, cyclists, and wheelchair users'.
After virtually every home game we retrace our steps leaving the ground and see that the illegally parked cars have a Penalty Charge Notice stuck to the windscreen.
This must be easy pickings for the Traffic Wardens. Just wait till the match starts when the streets are quiet and issue multiple notices.
This has gone on for decades!
If I've spotted a driver leaving his car after parking up, I'll mention about tickets being issued. There was one recently and the driver said he'd be ok. Sure enough, as we were leaving the ground the car had a ticket!
There are no warning signs as this is noted in the Highway Code. Who last referred to a copy of the Highway Code, certainly not me!
My reason for posting this is to try to bring it to the attention of fans visiting Turf Moor. Please avoid dropped kerbs around the ground, you will get a ticket!
How many thousands of pounds have been collected from unsuspecting Clarets over the years, I dread to think.

The example you show there doesn't even look like an official dropped kerb.

I wouldn't say that this kerb is fully flush with the road but it is a bit lower than the rest of the street.

There will be literally hundreds of cars in and around Burnley parked within 10 yards of a junction- I reckon the ticket is as the OP says, an alleged dropped kerb.

I'd like to see the official definition of a dropped kerb.

These tickets are issued during EVERY home game on these streets for parking across a dropped kerb as mentioned by the original poster.

Over many years I also have mentioned to drivers who have been parking as I have been walking past, that they will receive a ticket for parking there.

Some people will then move their car but others will just ignore my advice. Sure enough as I'm walking away from the ground after the game their car has a ticket on the windscreen.

It definitely is easy money for the wardens who purposely wait until after kick off time to patrol those streets. Drivers simply don't realise that they are committing an offence.

I have no sympathy with car drivers anymore. The amount of cars just parked up on pavements or abandoned anywhere they see fit is staggering.

Just to mention that one of the places that you can get a ticket - even if you have a Blue badge is dropped kerb, and correctly so as they are there to assist the disabled

Pretty straightforward. Don’t park on a dropped kerb. The “is it / isn’t it” argument is pointless. Clearly the one in the picture posted is a dropped kerb. By all means argue about millimetres all you want, but it’s dropped. Don’t park there.

Having spent the last 3 months with a broken leg,and using a mobility scooter and wheelchair for the first time in my life, dropped kerbs absolutely essential for these purposes. The Highway Code is something which all drivers should be familiar with so if you get ticketed, it's quite simply your own fault.

The biggest culprit of parking over dropped kerbs is the ice cream van situated on the corner of Brunshaw Rd and Higgin St opp Park View, every match. To make sure he gets the spot a car is parked over it, then moved, for the van to take over. That dropped kerb is likely to be most needed around the ground for wheel chair users, as traffic uses that junction to access the ground parking and their safety is taken away by illegal parking.

Does the driver stay with the vehicle, and able to move it if required, or clear off for 2hrs to watch a football match?

I can't understand why more people don't park on Woodgrove car park at Towneley for £1.50, it's only a 5-10 minute walk to the ground.

No it's not, unless causing an obstruction

It's only an offence in London according to the highway code (rule 244). It does say you shouldn't park on the pavement elsewhere unless signed, however this isn't an outright ban.

I have a dropped kerb outside my property near Turf Moor & regularly have cars parked there, on non match days you are extremely unlikely to get a ticket, match days they send traffic wardens round all the drop kerbs. Seems more an unscrupulous money making scheme than them having any genuine concern for people who need to use drop kerbs.

Absolutely. There are some kerbs around Hinton street that are collapsed and not deliberately dropped, but hardly look any different because of the poor state in general.

It’s £2 now, but your point is still valid. Why the council don’t open Fulledge again is a bigger question. There’s specific hard standing there that was used and charged for, for years. No idea why it was closed and not reopened??

I’ve got no sympathy because people take out their brains when parking their cars these days. The streets entering Brunshaw road like Mizpah, Haven etc have clearly marked H bars over the dropped kerb and every game some Herbert will have parked over them and got a ticket.

When I read the ticket, it was for a dropped kerb.

I scuffed all the leaves away to reveal said kerb drop!

Parking next to a dropped kerb, in certain cases will be an offence of unnecessary obstruction, which is an offence under the rta.

Dropped kerbs are handled by section 86 of the Traffic Management Act 2004.

Obstruction isn’t dealt with by the RTA, but regulation 103 of the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (causing unnecessary obstruction) or section 137 of the Highways Act 1980 (wilful obstruction of the highway).

Funnily enough I was walking to the ground from my usual parking spot in Woodgrove Road and on the streets mentioned there was a lady in a wheelchair having to manoeuvre down the middle of the road, complaining about cars parked on drop kerbs meaning she couldn’t get back on the pavement.

What these drivers don't realise (or don't care about) is that this still counts as parking on the double yellows. They're also blocking the pavement for wheelchair users, prams, guide dogs etc.

It always amazes me the lengths some car drivers will go to in order to avoid paying a few quid to park up. I mean, it's an absolute pittance when you consider the cost of owning and running a car.

I used to work in a town centre office, and we would regularly see people drive around for over half an hour in order to save a quid on parking up. It will have cost them more in fuel, not to mention the waste of their time and stress they no doubt put themselves through.
