Re: EFL awards
As soon as they start imposing rules like ‘3 players maximum from any one team’ it stops being an awards ceremony based on merit and starts to become a quota system. It’s a joke, quite frankly, and undermines the entire thing.

Re: EFL awards
Hamer went hiding when it mattered in their 4 recent defeats, couple of good moments notwithstanding. Not what POTY awards are for, but then the team of the season award has included a player out for months
Could have gone to any of the shortlist to be fair but Traff equalling a 150 year record across 4 divisions has to warrant it.

Re: EFL awards
Portsmouth fans up in arms and might have a case. Murphy has 7 goals and 14 assists from left wing and got nowt.

I think Murphy could make the step up.
Re: EFL awards
Gus Hamer 40 games, 9 goals 7 assists.
Josh Brownhill 41 games, 16 goals and 6 assists. Go figure that out !

Lets have it right, there are potentially two 100-point teams this season (though hopefully one, and hopefully us!)
-------Traff
Bogle-CJ-Esteve-Burrows
----Cullen-Tanaka
James-Brownhill-Anthony
-------Piroe
Leeds and Burnley players should dominate the team of the year.

At lot of lights on at the training ground tonight, very unusual for a Sunday.
I wonder if they've gathered to watch the awards programme?

Absolutely delighted that the job SP has done is being more widely recognised.
Even though we've been on the journey, looking back at where he's taken us from to here, it's incredible what he's achieved.

Even Wilder said in his interview that Esteve was the best player in the league.

There’s only Stevie Wonder who doesn’t think that Maxime is the best player in the league tbh

Re: EFL awards
Not sure I've ever seen anyone stand out as 'far too good for this level' in the way that Estève has this season. Defenders don't often win these types of awards though.

Re: EFL awards
You’re right that defenders don’t usually win these awards. However, watching Esteve at this level is akin to watching Virgil van Dijk playing for Southampton on the Turf a few years ago. He was literally so much better than anyone else on the pitch it was like a different sport.
Re: EFL awards
Parker was the correct winner. It was a 50/50 between him and Farke, but our defensive record and unbeaten run meant that Parker correctly edged it.
Bellingham was one the best players we've seen on the Turf this season IMO. He will become a PL regular and would love for us to sign him if we could. Whether he should have won it ahead of CJ is debatable, but there's no doubt Bellingham is a special talent.
Hamer winning the player of the season is a complete joke. There's no doubting his quality, but he wasn't the best player in the league. He had some amazing moments, but went missing when it mattered, and also looked very unfit last week. I don't think he'd be fit enough for a Parker midfield.
As a side note, and as much as we may laugh about it, for Leeds to end with nothing is a shambles. They're still favorites to win the league with 100 points. As we know, that doesn't happen by chance. James and Tanaka have been excellent all season.

Enjoyed Colin and the emphasis he put on the dressing room
Claimed he didn’t manage the best teams but had the best dressing rooms
IMO was well worth the watch

Unfit ?
You are watching a different game from me. He was easily their best player against Burnley and was far from unfit. He was the one player constantly showing for the ball and making things happen for them. He made their goal, set up a one on one chance for them and did everything he could when many of their other players were getting out ran and out thought by us.
I think Esteve is a better player than him and Hannibal could be if he carries on the way he has in the last couple of months. Unfortunately for Esteve defenders don’t tend to get these kind of players of the season awards.
Re: EFL awards
Each to there own, but I thought he was playing the quarterback role that Beckham did when he was coming up to retirement, which is the reason he was constantly available as he was sitting deep. His quality on the ball cannot be questioned, but he didn't look like he'd be getting from box-to-box for 90 minutes.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 10:25 amWent missing when it mattered ?

Look at the way our midfield sprint back to defend as a team, or the way Brownhill reacted for our first goal vs Sheff Utd, I just don't see that with Hamer. He's a good footballer, I just think there were others who have performed better than him across the whole season. Trafford, Esteve, Tanaka, James to name a few.

Unfortunately for our players, it's a maximum of only 3 players from the same team.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 10:16 pmLets have it right, there are potentially two 100-point teams this season (though hopefully one, and hopefully us!)

Re: EFL awards
That’s wrong , it’s about the best players for each position, it doesn’t make sense for someone not to receive the recognition they deserve because their team have more better players than others.

Re: EFL awards
I think part of Sheff Utd's problem, is that Hamer and Souza are punched out after 6o minutes (presently,we have the same with Hannibal), however, Laurent brings far more to the team than what Sheff Utd players who come on are able to offer.

Re: EFL awards
Hamer was quality at the Turf last week. He played most of the game as a left midfielder. He then finished the game in a midfield 2 when they brought on attacking subs. From the middle of the top tier of the longside he appeared to be everywhere and seemed to be at the heart of every move we had that broke down in the last part of the game. I can't comment on his performances all season, but thought it was the best performance I've seen from an opposition player all season. Quite the opposite of unfit I'd say.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 11:06 amEach to there own, but I thought he was playing the quarterback role that Beckham did when he was coming up to retirement, which is the reason he was constantly available as he was sitting deep. Re: EFL awards
Comments about Hamer’s fitness seem to be based on his stocky frame. I’ve seen loads of ill-educated comments referring to him as fat when I’m sure he’s anything but.
Re: EFL awards
Yeah that's how I've been seeing it too. He's stocky, he looks like he's probably one of those guys who's like "stealth jacked", a bit Tevez-esque.
Definitely wouldn't call him fat in the slightest.

Re: EFL awards
The games Hamer bottled were against Oxford and Millwall when he was rank bad. Those were the games your best player grabs the whole game by the scruff of the neck and ensures a win. But he had 1 shot across both games and did little. It has cost them a promotion (just just him, obvs).
That’s why he should never have been player of the season even though I’d sign him for us.

Absolutely correct. Somewhat ironic it being Oxford and Millwall because they were two games where we were also pretty dire and there was certainly no player grabbing the games by the scruff of the neck.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 2:18 pmThe games Hamer bottled were against Oxford and Millwall when he was rank bad.
