Parker-ball is like some sadistic “be careful what you wish for” type antidote to Cotterball or the latter days of Dyche. Possession with no threat.

We’re not playing that bad. All this team is lacking is creativity and some flare upfront and we could score 3 goals a match. It’s really frustrating and hard to watch the lack of forward play and not playing the ball out of our own half.

Coming in peace.

I just want to see the opinion on Parker.
It seems he’s learnt very little from his past three managerial appointments and continues to do the same things.
No tactical nous and doesn’t know when the substitute. Play possession football with no end product. Loses the bigger players and uses the others in weird, random positions.
Doesn’t like making substitutions until it’s too late and seems to just want to play to not concede and everything else is a bonus.

When he first came to Fulham, I gave him time. I tried to see his long term goal, wanting his possession football and passing tactics to succeed, but after half a season of the same, constant mistakes and boring, boring football, I could.

We got promoted in spite of him, not because of him. We should have won the league by a big margin but scraped through the play off. The fact Mitrovic was our best player and he didn’t feature under SP and then went on to break the record for the number of goals scored, shows how poor he is.

So, what’s your opinions so far?
The best manager in the Championship this season 👏 👏 👏

Nobody else wanted the job. He was the only one willing to take it. Turgid football, uninspiring, boring, makes 90 minutes seem like a long time. Stuck with him now, though. We look like a side at the other end of the table with no heart, no direction and most worryingly of all no idea.
Some of these comments are just delightful

His football is like watching a training session. No urgency, no commitment to get bodies forward, no flair, no set piece threat, wrong formation, no in game changes, he’s had 2 squads in Bournemouth and Fulham with the highest wage budget in the league and 2 good strikers in both teams. Hes got a great budget in this team but absolutely no striker to pull him out . He won’t last long

Last thing you need to be reading after a great weekend and season are comments from frustrated Fulham & Bournemouth fans, on our own message board, as to their opinions on our manager. The only thing that counts for me is MY OPINION. Been around long enough and worked hard throughout my career with numerous people in all walks of life, to be able to read people and make my own opinions on people.

... but we scored 9 in two games when we had viable attacking options at the beginning of the season.

Why didn't you give it time and realise he had a heck of a lot of work to do, to build the team back up? Some properly terrible reactions/comments from back then from multiple posters.

There's a lesson to be learnt there.

Such as what? We were crap last year, pretty much non-competitive and masters of our own downfall.
It was pretty obvious following the Villa game at home, Tottenham at home confirmed it.

Traff wasn't ready, wasn't a fit for our kamikaze style and it was a terrible season all round. That's been and gone, the summer was a blank slate.

It probably would have been wiser for those posters who were quick to take the bait from the OP to wait a bit longer before writing the Manager of the Season off as a huge mistake. Hopefully lesson learned for next season.

Plenty of managers have a promotion on their CV but I wouldn’t appoint them. I’d have taken Lampard or Van Nistelrooy over Parker.

Even Paul Heckingbottom, in fact.

Some interesting historic comments from a few of the “bumpers” on this thread about at least one of other award nominees to be found.

I’ll not bump them tho. I’d rather just say enjoy the brilliant job Parker ended up doing.

Quite possibly one of the best managerial performances I've ever seen in a season.

There have been managers who have turned around a squad. And some who have bought well over a period of time but I don't think I've ever seen one improve so many players and resolve a significant problem like not having a mainstream striker (for much of the season) just using tactics and coaching expertise albeit the addition of Edwards certainly helped.

The improvement of the squad from some of the nil-nil bore fests to the utter destruction of a mid table Championship side on their home Turf is nothing short of magnificent.

No doubt Dyche's achievement and in days gone by Adamson, Mullen and Stan dwarf that of Parker but in terms of coaching and improving players through a season I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it.

I'm tempted to ponder whether this is just the hyperbole of success but I watched us put the ball in the QPR net 7 times and read some of their fans comments and the words 'truly remarkable' seem to be totally appropriate.

Sign of the times, sadly. You'd think November was the most critical part of the season! People wanted perfect performances and everything now now now even after a 1/3 of the season gone. Thankfully, SP is a professional and intelligent enough to know it doesn't work like that, and gradually coached and moulded the team into how he wanted it in prep for these final 2 months, which would be criticial and have been perfect! A masterclass in management and coaching really with the squad he had.

Nor me, but then again bumping a thread at a time when we were arguably at our most boring, doesn’t really show how opinions evolved. Lots of posters who were vocal about it in early November were posting complimentary things about Parker by Jan/Feb. It probably doesn’t suit the “gotcha” moment to show how opinions gradually changed.

As I said further up, you don’t have to search to hard to find some pretty damning assessments of one of our other award nominees last night from some posters so keen to point out how wrong people were about Parker.

It’s almost as if people change their minds based on shifting evidence.

I have to say it is amusing to see how opinions change, like a lot of things in life we make a judgement opinion on the evidence we have seen or heard then as you see, hear more these change . I always try to give any of our managers a chance, I never got the boring football bit as although I attended every home game I never saw any boring games, although apparently as I sit in the Bob Lord my snoring was drowned out by others .

Well done to Scott Parker and the team , oh and the guy next to me who has nudged me at full time to go home

This is fine and normal. I think the main points that these threads highlight is that there is a tendency from some to default straight to extreme negativity and criticism (and normally loudly and relentlessly so) when maybe a little patience and consideration of context might be more appropriate.

I'll hold my hands up to what I got wrong and that's that I said numerous times, even quite recently that we were good, but not quite good enough (especially in the opposition penalty box) and we'd definitely finish a gallant third. I was very wrong.
However, I've also consistently said from day one I didn't think things were Parker's fault and he was doing the best job he could with the hand he was dealt. I believed he was intelligent and shrewd and was simply being pragmatic with the way we were performing and I never wanted him sacked. I've always gone to sleep since the day he walked in saying a silent thank you that we didn't appoint Rooney.

I think that’s fine for those calling for his head. Many posters weren’t doing that, but were saying they found the football extremely dull.

For my part, you’ll be able to find numerous posts since November (and months before promotion was clinched), saying I’d warmed up to Parker and thought he was doing a fine job. I suspect there are many fans in the same boat.

Yes, and those with unrealistic expectations and a desire for instant gratification will always lack it.

You could use Pires as an even more recent example, yet he’s been very good for a number of weeks now after some were questioning how he was even a professional footballer.

I happy to admit when I’m wrong, but like you I changed my opinion of Parker for the better more than a fair while ago.

That’ll be in writing too.

If we’re going back a lot further, a lot of fans who now love Sean Dyche thought the football on show was an abomination during that part-season he took over. It took a good 12 months for many to warm to what he was doing - me included.
