no it isn't - not for the money it the sponsorship is worth - the problem all sponsors have is that the whole world would just call it Turf Moor - that is what 142 years of history does

It's an awkward one. Big international brands can find it attractive as you get the name on media coverage, etc but they aren't that interested in clubs like Burnley because they don't have that much media coverage (Wrexham being the obvious exception).

So you end up with smaller brands who suffer from everyone calling it by the old name so the money isn't really that good for what is quite a symbolic sacrifice. I think Bolton make about a £500k a year for theirs for instance.

Tbf Bolton's was built as the Reebok, so it's never really had an organic name. The Horwich Bowl is hardly better eh

Yes, one of the benefits of new stadiums is they don't have the historic names associated with them so you can get names to stick (like the Emirates and Etihad). Spurs have been very careful to not have people call the new stadium White Hart Lane so they can stick a new name on it when the price is right.

I do agree with you on all those things BTW, I just think the gambling lobby is far too powerful and unfortunately has nothing to fear from governments and regulators who are only too happy to keep watching the £ rolling in, regardless of the social costs elsewhere.

It's a shame but there we go. It's not likely to change.

I think there’s a difference between well regulated established bookmakers within the jurisdiction who spend ever increasing amounts on identification and prevention of harm capabilities, and white label overseas bookmakers who ride the market until the regulator catches up with them and forces them to close, like the sponsors in the shirt. You can’t lump them all in together.
