Re: Summer transfer window
I suspect Pope has an upper value of £5m right now, and realistically less . We sold him for £10m, but now 3 years older, and his recurring shoulder injury has been well documented. Also when he left us he was in or around the England squad-now he is never even being spoken about as being close to that squad. Also in todays game , in the PL, and to a growing degree in the Championship, goal keepers need to be great with their feet in retaining ground possession with their team mates, a quality Pope has never demonstrated on a regular basis
Re: Summer transfer window
I wasn't one of those fans, I thought £10m was a good price given his age at the time. Probably worth a max of about £6m now, but his wages will be out of our range and I can't see him wanting to take the step down.

Re: Summer transfer window
We need a keeper who can primarily keep the ball out of the net this season, we will be up against it and will face a lot of shots. Playing out from the back won’t be the priority id imagine . I’m not saying bring Pope back, but someone who can command his area like he does would be great.

Pope is certainly used to the pressure of a relegation battle and being absolutely peppered with shots game after game.

It was widely reported last season that Leeds owed millions in unpaid transfers and this would affect their transfer ability. As this been conveniently forgotten?
Re: Summer transfer window
Based on their activity already, they plan to ignore PSR and just get enough points that it doesn't matter.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 8:20 amIt was widely reported last season that Leeds owed millions in unpaid transfers and this would affect their transfer ability. As this been conveniently forgotten?

They sold 3 players for around £120m last summer.
They have new owners
They are still due £40m from Barca for Raphina (he was not one of the 3 sold last summer)
Been reported in last few weeks that they bid £22m for a centre back and £32m for Munoz from Fulham.
They are in a pretty perilous place PSR wise with their 2 last reported losses but doesn’t sound like it’s bothering them much !

£94m combined losses over the last 2 years but probably a big profit this year from player sales as you say to offset that. With the same (reduced) PSR allocation as us though, you’d expect some limits on their spending, unless they just decide to go all Forest and take the points deductions in future years.
I can’t say I blame them, really. The rules are ridiculous for promoted clubs.

Thought Archie Gray went for more actually but £100m for 3 players last summer pretty significant and don’t think they spent that much on new players.
They got the Welsh centre back from Spurs on a perm and I thought he was their best player last season - didn’t put a foot wrong on the turf in the goalless draw

Think reported Gray fees differ wildly, I went with the lower end but could be more. Think Leeds did very well over several seasons in terms of selling prices.
Agree re: Rodon. Will be interesting to see how he gets on in the Premier League.

Re: Summer transfer window
Didn’t dare say it, but so would I. On the condition that he’d stay if we went down, or at least, wouldn’t force a move. I’m not sure under what conditions he left though, so maybe that bridge has burnt down!
Despite his two clangers that cost us big points, I think it’s overlooked/forgotten that he actually did much better for the last ten games. He’s big and commands the box well.
I thought we sold him cheaply given his ability with his feet. Who knows what Ipswich will do and if they plan to use him this year (I think they will but they have a lot of keepers), but if his fall from grace there meant we could pick him up cheaply, I think we could do a lot worse. If we could get him taking less risks and improve his all round game I think we could take a big profit again.
Would certainly take Muric all day and night over Cooper and Johansson.

All about opinions I know but Muric was awful for Ipswich. When Ipswich were playing ok and Delap in particular was a real threat they were competing in a lot of games in the first few months of the season and Muric’s mistakes cost them a number of points.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 10:56 amDidn’t dare say it, but so would I. When he came back into the team for Burnley instead of Trafford he cost us more points than Trafford had done all season with his mistakes against Brighton and Everton (?)
Muric may be ok in the Championship but his record in the premier league for us and Ipswich shows that you will be punished if you play football like Muric does.

I thought Muric was excellent in the last 10 or so games in the PL, he did cost us with a few errors but he also improved us when he came back in.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 10:56 amDidn’t dare say it, but so would I. The big problem is whilst I can overlook a couple of errors in isolation I think that across most of his career he's shown he's an error prone keeper, his time it Ipswich has cemented that for me. Its just not a trait you want in a keeper.
Special mention for his ball playing ability though, he actually got me out of my seat on a few occasions under Kompany. I just think in the PL (and especially for a team that's going to be under the cosh a lot) errors will never be far away.

I totally agree with you, just not up to PL standard. He was brilliant when we were dominating teams in the Championship, that's about his level.

I mean, it's highly likely we haven't got a single player or manager that's Premier league standard. Re: Summer transfer window
Fair point.
I can’t say I watched a lot of Ipswich last season, but the mistakes I saw felt more about their collective awful defending than things that could be pinned directly on a keeper error as such. Like his errors vs Brighton and Everton for us, anyway.
I got the feeling in the end that, maybe a bit like Trafford for us, Muric became a scapegoat for the team leaking goals. The spotlight shone on him and every goal conceded was analysed. Then his confidence was probably knocked. Inbetween it I saw fans saying he’d made a lot of good saves too.
I suppose my point was that a more solid defensive set up, with a more risk averse coaching/instructions, could we get the best out of him? There’s a talent there for sure.

Per above, I didn’t really watch a lot of him for Ipswich, but what I did see, I felt was part McKenna’s similar approach to defending as Kompany.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 11:44 amAll about opinions I know but Muric was awful for Ipswich. Fair points. I think, or I’d hope, that we could cut out the mistakes. Although I’ve just checked and he’s 27 this year, which is older than I thought, so maybe not!boyyanno wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 11:59 amI thought Muric was excellent in the last 10 or so games in the PL, he did cost us with a few errors but he also improved us when he came back in.

I thought our GK coach or Parker/Jackson (heard he was he was in charge of the defence), improved Trafford last year. There were games, or parts in games, where he went long every single time with his kicking, his game management was superb, etc.
I think if we could played more defensively with a low block and got Aro taking less risks, it’d lead to less mistakes. I’d back our team and new coach to improve him, anyway. We know he has the ball playing in his locker.
You might be right though and he’ll never kick on. I suppose it comes down to, if we sell Traff, what will it cost to find someone better than Muric? Quite a bit, I’d guess.
P.S. I’d love to know how our GK is getting on if anyone knows. Did a good job last season, I thought.

Re: Summer transfer window
Utc posters quick to jump on a rumour about certain players forcing a move and they wouldn't want them back near the club.
Some have different rules when it comes to Muric, wasn't he one of the players who couldn't even be bothered returning to training?
Even if that wasn't the case, I wouldn't have back just based on ability and how prone he is to costly errors.

Muric was excellent for us in the main. Just the errors are always high profile / stand out.
But he was a huge part of our promotion team. And in spite of his two errors (Everton and Brighton). Our performances improved as did our points per game ratio with Muric in goal. He also had some excellent games / made some excellent saves. Brentford, Wolves among others.

For this reason I think Ipswich might keep and reinstate him, so it’s possibly a pointless conversation.
But a condition for me would be that he’d stay with us if we went down because he was outstanding at that level.

Matt Turner is a fantastic shout after just signing for Lyon, who are in a right mess.
Re: Summer transfer window
Matt Turner is not very good. Forest fans I saw were delighted to get a fee for him and get shut.
Better options out there include Senegal international keeper Yevenn Diouf, relegated with Troyes to Ligue 2, but statistically the best shot stopping keeper in Europe last season.
As well, already linked with us a few weeks ago, Turkey’s number 1 Uğurcan Çakır from Trabszonspor. Both would probably be cheaper than Cooper, who would be a decent choice too.
