Matt Turner is not very good. Forest fans I saw were delighted to get a fee for him and get shut.

Better options out there include Senegal international keeper Yevenn Diouf, relegated with Troyes to Ligue 2, but statistically the best shot stopping keeper in Europe last season.

As well, already linked with us a few weeks ago, Turkey’s number 1 Uğurcan Çakır from Trabszonspor. Both would probably be cheaper than Cooper, who would be a decent choice too.
The post I replied to was talking about available experienced goalkeepers and I just 'threw in' Matt Turner as another possibility, who I rated at Forest. Despite what Forest fans think (don't all club's fans have scapegoats etc?), I think he'd be a good shout for us should we go down the experienced goalkeeper route, if and when we do eventually sell Trafford.

Can't argue with Diouf or Cakir, both are great shouts if we don't go down the experienced keeper route.. Don't think I'd touch Cooper though. Johansson at Stoke would be a better option than Cooper imo.

No. You need to re-read what I said. I wouldn't want Pope back.

That link doesn't state that Turner's joined Lyon.

Matt Turner isn't an experienced goalkeeper though. He's played 17 Premier League games which is 11 fewer than both Muric and Trafford.

Has anybody an idea what percentage of Trafford Citeh will take? It could play a big part in negotiations.

Not happy with the dis-respect to Nick Pope in this thread. He hasn’t gone backwards, younger keepers have improved in front of him. Still straight back in Newcastles first team after injury when Dubravka had been playing well.

It would be good to get any incomings over the line early as most of the links are with European based players who would need settling in time.

Not sure what the % is but for me this is why we should be all over a player swap as part of the deal.

20% of sale profit, so roughly £3m if we sold for £30m and roughly £5m if we sold for £40m.

Strange Ian. Newcastle rate Trafford higher than Pope (and they see him every week) but you think he's good enough to be 1st choice for us.
I doubt Newcastle would be looking to ship him out if he could maintain a season at PL standard.
They wanted humid to TRY and compete with Pope and then eventually replace him. Pope now taken umbridge. Coming our way, hopefully!

Still not convinced that the Trafford rumours are true. looks like old news reposted IMO. Nothing from either camp to suggest it's happening.

Not sure he’s good enough with his feet for City. He’s alright but nothing like Ederson / Ortega, imo. Long range passing is fairly average.

Still remember him coming on (was it Palace) and he looked huge but we were all rightly nervous.

What a player, was phenomenal for us. I still think Heaton was slightly better. But Pope had the better career ultimately. Both top keepers for us. We were very priveleged to have both, just a shame in some respects at the same time!

I'll throw in Matt Turner. Very lazy supporters linking us to Nick Pope, just because he played for us previously. And then on top of that, to suggest they'd be happy to sell Trafford for £30 mill + Pope in exchange, makes me very glad they're not negotiating on behalf of the club. Clueless springs to mind.
Matt Turner? Feck me :o

Absolutely nowhere near Popes level.

Some shocking shouts on here, Fraser Forster, Matt Turner, Muric.

Let me put forward a couple of actually good goalkeepers, Justin Bijlow from Feyenoord or Dominic Livakovic from Fenerbahce.

Muric is never going to happen and don't understand why people are asking for him to sign, Turner Jesus wept we may as well stick Hladky in goal all season.
Don't understand the obsession with Cooper either never watched him and thought he stood out just looks a good championship keeper with a sky high price.
Much better keepers around Europe for a lot cheaper prices

Think you might be right here.

He probably won’t want to play Championship football but may not have many/any Premier League suitors if we’re not interested. Wouldn’t shock me to see him in Turkey.

Bar your Muric comment, I agree.

Not that I know a lot of European keepers but I can’t imagine Cooper and Turner are the best available.

Just watched this Diouf chap that RV recommended and he does look a very good shot stopper.

Watched Viktor Johansson a few times last year and thought he looked decent. Not much in that Stoke team was functioning well but he seemed a capable **** stopper and reasonable under the high ball. Would happily have Pope back, he could have a couple of seasons left. Personally hoping for a bidding war over Trafford. Newcastle obviously interested and United needs a good keeper. I don't think we can keep him unfortunately.

If Pope wanted to come back then great but not if he was a reluctant party to the Traffs deal....
My preference would be to keep Trafford with us for at least a season as I think under SP he would prove the doubters wrong....time will tell

Fee seems on the large side for the Lazio winger. Last time up in the Prem we signed too many of those types and it backfired a bit. This guy does look more of a unit than the others we bought though, so might work out better.

That was a joy to watch. Especially some of the long balls over the top. Recall one to Tella that he took down perfectly and scored a wonderful goal from. Brilliant.

I actually thought he got some of the goalkeeping basics right too. I thought he commanded his area well in the end (after being dreadful at first), claiming high balls, etc, was good on his front post from crosses and an ok shot stopper. Not much I remember him not saving that I thought he should. It was the unforced errors that let him down, I thought.

Appreciate Ipswich fans may have a different view as he seemed to get a lot of stick from them. And I agree with the posts above that he never seemed one of the lads and had some questionable behaviours.

Can't believe anybody would want Muric back, easy on the eye and exactly the sort of keeper you want with his passing in a team that spends long periods going forward but he was pretty average when it came to actual goalkeeping skills. he was a liability in a team that was under pressure and defending for long periods, same at Ipswich. One of the best bits of business we did last summer getting 10m for him.

Never a good idea to jump to conclusions from a YouTube highlights reel but he looks to have something about him. Direct and looks like he knows how to pick a pass if we get people running in behind. Fingers crossed we've found a good un - Edwards might have some competition for his place.

I like the fact that I can't work out if he is left or right footed as he looks just as good on either.
What I noticed the most was his vision and first pass that he gets away like Edwards can do, but looks quicker. A bit of a mix of Koleosho / Edwards in him. As mentioned though very limited footage.
