I don't think that's necessary within a few hours of the contract expiring. I'm certain that an outgoing club captain would, when the time is right, and when an exit is confirmed, issue some kind of statement.

In the meantime, it's likely that he has some offers, possibly including from Burnley FC, with different terms, some involving relocation, some much more money and maybe less chance of being the first name on a teamsheet... loads of parameters to take into account.

He could be (almost certainly is) spending a couple of weeks in private training to keep his fitness up - and then will make a move. Normal stuff.

I don't think the club should thank him I believe they have been putting money into his bank account for 5 years & that should be enough & by that same token I don't think he should be obligated to express anything should he decide not to come back. Taking away any emotional involvement & looking at things in a strict business like manner it's a commodity & service that's come to an end.

It's the way I see things. You don't agree fair enough. We don't owe him anything he doesn't owe us anything. It's a business like relationship that's finished.

As I said it's a service. I've been using the same hairdresser & barber for years if I decided to go elsewhere I wouldn't expect the barber to go on record & thank me for my custom throughout the years or my milkman & window cleaner etc. I'm not expecting the club to thank brownhill in the same way I'm not expecting brownhill to say anything. It's a business relationship which seemingly as ended. It's good manners to end things by declaring best wishes & gratitude but it doesn't always happen elsewhere & realistically it's not necessary.
