Did exactly that before posting
And described on there with a contract ending uk/2023
What's that all about
He could be the man to keep us up if used effectively

Re: Obafemi
What's all that about? It's explained at the bottom of the squad. We never confirmed his permanent signing and therefore never confirmed contract length.

Re: Obafemi
Will be a challenge to move on-done little in 3 seasons to build up his CV. Suspect League 1 at best for a "fire sale"
Re: Obafemi
Just give him away if anyone is daft enough to take him and pay him anything close to what he’ll be on here.
Appalling signing and appalling player. To think we were ready to pay big money for him in 2022. Shudder.

I can only assume that it was Bellamy pushing for him. HE obviously was close to football in South Wales, and must at the time, been impressed with his play at Swansea

Re: Obafemi
Very strange one is Obafemi. Summer 2022, Kompany unsettled him at Swansea which eventually led to him being left out. We then signed him in the following January but even after we'd clinched promotion and Kompany was giving everyone a game, he still didn't start a game.
After missing start of the 2023/24 season with an injury, he came back to make two sub appearances for us in the Prem but has since had loans at Millwall and Plymouth where he hasn't done much although he did score for Millwall at Ewood in a 1-1 draw and then scored for Plymouth against Blackburn in a 2-1 win at Home Park.

They never actually reported the signing when it happened so we were never given a contract length.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 10:00 amhttps://www.uptheclarets.com/obafemi-re ... ng-surgery

Terrible player, was never going to be at the level we needed. Just money down the drain - I'd happily sell him for nothing to get him off our books.

Re: Obafemi
No idea why VK brought him in.
We didn’t need him at the time.
He’s not even championship standard. Had 2 loans at Millwall and Plymouth and ended up on the bench at both after playing first few games.
Tbh I’m not sure he’s a division one player but it isn’t going to matter as I doubt anyone will take him on his wages so he’s likely to just see out his contract perfecting his dirty dancing and his PlayStation skills.
It’s hard to get your head round the freedom VK was given in the transfer market and the amount of money he wasted. It’s a good job SP has got us back up because that squad size and wage bill could have been big trouble without promotion.

Re: Obafemi
Funny how folk like to describe a professional footballer. Appalling? Terrible? Not up to the standard required, yes, but he’s self-evidently a good footballer.

Always amusing isn’t it. Some people have zero understanding of how good you have to be just to be a professional footballer, never mind playing in the top two divisions of this country.

Re: Obafemi
I'm well aware of how good players need to be to make it, the commentary is related to the level that we're at... but I do believe like BVK that Obafemi isn't even champ standard and at best is a L1 player.
Re: Obafemi
All contextual isn’t it lads. I don’t think anyone is saying he wouldn’t look good on Towneley, but he ain’t good enough for the level the Clarets play at.
Calm.
Calm.

I remember you describing our current manager as “crap” with reference to his playing career.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 12:21 pmAlways amusing isn’t it. Re: Obafemi
Played football for last 50 years including playing with and against a number of ex professional players. Amongst them was Steve Heighway the ex Liverpool winger who I played against after he was long retired and you can see that they operate at a completely different level to us mortals.
All I was saying is I never understood the Obafemi signing at the time and from everything I have seen of him he’s not good enough for the top 2 divisions.
Only seen him play half decent for Burnley once - and ironically it was when he was brought on out wide against Blackpool away in a 0-0 draw in one of our worst performances of that season

Re: Obafemi
Granted we didn’t pay much for him. But a prime example of why the fees banded about these days are mad. Wasn’t it £10m that Swansea wanted after one half decent season. Now that would have been a disaster.
I’m sure there’s a player in there. He wouldn’t have played at premier league and international level. But increasingly obvious he offers us nothing.

Pace was starstruck with VK in that first year or so giving him loads of leeway on signingsBig Vinny K wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 11:55 amNo idea why VK brought him in.

There could be up to a dozen of these signings who we would like to move on but wages, contract lengths and actual lack of necessary footballing skills will prove to be stumbling blocks
Obafemi is not the only one but why the great secrecy on contract length in his case is strange

Re: Obafemi
He had a good season with Swansea and must have looked to have potential. Lots of clubs make poor signings - it's an art not a science. Even Fergie bought plenty of stinkers....!
Re: Obafemi
He’s definitely still our player - the club have just wished him a happy birthday on twitter!

Admittedly, this is from my own mind and it's probably pure fantasy but I think it has links to Tella.Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 11:55 amNo idea why VK brought him in.

We got Tella in on loan and then we are linked to signing his best mate
We then had rumours of Tella maybe going back to Southampton but we then sign his best mate and Tella stays.
As I said , it's probably pure fantasy

Re: Obafemi
Wasn't he quite a decent player at Swansea? Main issue seemed to be that he’d had some run ins with Russell Martin, the manager at the time. Sometimes a signing doesn’t work out.

Re: Obafemi
Back in the 80s a former footballer worked for me. He’d had to finish playing due to an ACL that left him hardly able to run.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 05, 2025 12:21 pmAlways amusing isn’t it. We used to play matches at work and he would play and stick at centre half (despite being a striker) and would, despite hardly being able to move, be the best player on the pitch.
Admittedly he played all his football for Newcastle and Blackpool in the top two divisions but even with his physical issues he stood out alongside us mere football enthusiasts.
They really are in a different world in every way when it comes to playing football.

Re: Obafemi
If Wiki is correct it's Happy Birthday Oba today, still only 25.
It's my view that it was a wrong match and things weren't helped by his injury going into that PL season with Kompany.
I think there is a good footballer there and hope he does himself a footballing favour by co operating with the club to get a permanent move away.
