David Eyres and his crew working overtime this past 12 months trying to move Trafford. Romano having to lap it up as part of the grace and favour world he operates in. Similar to his regular updates re Gjokores. It’s proper grim.

Re: Summer transfer window
The City thing would make a bit of sense on why things have gone quiet - presumably their players are on an extended period of leave given the club WC.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 5:49 pmThat would be some pretty immense business! Hopefully things start to pick up this week on the transfer front.
But fingers crossed, one way or the other.

Re: Summer transfer window
Oh, agreed and I’m sure it finally will happen.
I’m just saying that what you’re getting from Romano et al is only one side of the story. Confidence that a deal is close has proven to be wishful thinking for Trafford’s team this last year.
The same is happening with Gjokeres. Agreement of a fee with Arsenal seemed a formality a week ago, but perhaps Sporting have other ideas.

Of course Trafford would be able to agree personal terms with City.
“Hi James, fancy returning to your old club on triple your salary? That’s before we mention Champions League football, a practical shoe in for the World Cup squad and playing in front of a far superior defence where you’ll have a couple of saves a game to make.”
“Go on then!

Romano and these type of 'journos' are sc*m. I have no doubts that they get bankrolled to tweet this sort of stuff.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 6:10 pmDavid Eyres and his crew working overtime this past 12 months trying to move Trafford. Trafford has always known he’s going back to city. Yes Newcastle added some complexity to that, but not much.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 6:30 pmI’d guess it’s largely based around what Trafford’s team would like to happen, given how many journalists have had him being “close” to a move for over year now.
Chelsea enquired. JT himself turned that down.
He’s had his future mapped out domestically and internationally since he was seventeen.

Good deal potentially for us
Two years for free and we then end up with some cash in the bank

Re: Summer transfer window
Any chance City say to Trafford.
'Just stay at Burnley, play 38 games, and we take you at the end of the season. Be patient, that's the plan.'
Purely speculating, but that is what would be best for him ad their PSR.

Re: Summer transfer window
Think for all parties it might be best for Trafford to find the new home he clearly wants this season but the club should be applauded for holding out for the right fee. Good chance he ends up England No.1 for the World Cup next season at which point his value surely goes up?
Re: Summer transfer window
Surely City wouldn't do that and if they did their fee would be far less given Trafford would only have 12 months remaining on his contract. That would be better for their PSR. If City are looking to buy him, they will want him now.GrahamBranchsPerm wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 7:57 pmAny chance City say to Trafford.

Re: Summer transfer window
Fair challenge.
Main reason is (a)
(a) Gets 38 games as a big fish in a setting / system he knows and is comfortable in, beds into the Prem after last time's mixed bag. This compared to battling it out with Nick Pope or whoever, where a few cock up in front of baying Geordies means benched in a World Cup year.
(b) No messing about with location (appreciate he is from Cumbria originally), but any house move is disruptive.
(c) Depends what contract would be on the table from City but across 5 years, better to have a 'City' contract. Fatter than what Newcastle can ever offer, despite the 1 season shortfall he would have by staying.
Downside
(a) has a **** season with Burnley and misses out on the move.
(b) short term cash deficit.
It's the same reason Esteve will hopefully stay - full season in Prem, at a place you know, as a big fish, then pick your move. And similar to any career ladder - some times it's about learning, not just the immediate cashish, to bag the long term bucks.

£35m and an add on of £500,000 for every England cap.
Re: Summer transfer window
No, not in a World Cup year. England want him playing and being around a top six club in Europe. JT needs that.GrahamBranchsPerm wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 7:57 pmAny chance City say to Trafford.

Why does this not apply to Pickford as well? A bit harsh on Trafford that he has this stipulation from Tuchel.....

Re: Summer transfer window
They've got us to this point and see no reason why they can't achieve the best possible deal.
They've already held off Newcastle, including their pi55ed up entourage which has allowed time for City to get involved.
This hasn't to be under estimated as a lot of boards would have folded worrried that they would miss out on a pay day.

Re: Summer transfer window
Hung out to dry by being given a Premier League first team place he hadn’t earned and kept in it for most of the season despite playing as poorly as anyone else in that team?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Jul 20, 2025 11:01 amThanks for using two pre-season quotes from me to justify your argument re: Trafford in the Premier League.
No he wasn’t shocking. He had some difficult games and Kompany hung him out too dry. Then we got Muric back and we saw some proper poor goalkeeping.
Not sure why this all has to do with the transfer thread though.
At some point people are gonna have to accept that for all the many mistakes Kompany made that season the players also have some responsibility for their own performances, and I’m sorry but Trafford was as poor as anyone else.
Re: Summer transfer window
If they put a £40m buy back clause in the contract that is what they should pay. They should have made it lower if they didn't want to pay it.
