Just need to add a tier to the Bob Lord Stand and a StadiArena stand at the cricket field end. Everything else is fine...
Think it's fair to say and accepted amongst fan's that we're never going to get above a 24-26,000 kind of crowd, however I've long said that we should aspire to this based on the fact that we have to increase to have any chance of sustaining and being able to stay in this league in terms of revenue. So I agree with your idea of another tier on the BL and something similar on the CFS, doesn't have to be massive, just half the existing BL above, and similar on the CFS, and perhaps incorporate an extra 500 in the corners to give us around 4-4,500. However I did here talk maybe up to about 10 years ago now that there was some foundation issues in the BL and it wasn't doable, would have to be a rebuild in order to add another tier.

I think the flood risk is more of an issue at Towneley.

Would that be a worse or better flood risk compared to the new Everton stadium built on water? ;)

Multipurpose stadiums are the future. We can host diving championships, waterpolo, the boat race and the football.

Not read all the comments but our ‘newest’ stands are now considered old. The Bob lord and cricket are ancient artifacts.

If we were to use the current space moving forward then I’ve seen it suggested on another post a while back about knocking it all down and changing the pitch angle so that the goal stands would be where the fans one is and the other where the bob is now.

Wed have a far bigger footprint that way.

Won’t happen though.

I guess you could erect a temporary "stadium" on Townley, and fully demolish Turf Moor, and rebuild a new ground, probably turned 90 degrees, with far more multipurpose corporate facilities, and a capacity of circa 30 to 35k, expandable if need arises.

There is a modern stadium in Lower Darwen that might be for sale soon.

Thanks, I really did not know that.

And I liked Captain Scarlet (I shouldn’t admit this, but I am a member of Spectrum)

There is a lot to be said for having your team performing in the town centre.

It’s just a pain for me to get to.
Are you the Jos who had 2 of the Angels move in with him? or was that Joe 90?

My house is 130 years old and still standing strong

I don't think a 30 year old stand needs to be considered old if maintained properly , especially for a town and club like Burnley ... The only thing those stands need are bigger concourses which they could do.

The Bob lord and CFS do look a lot better than they did but they can be sorted without moving.

We arent located in a major city ... we are never going to be a tourist club ... we just need to update what we currently have ..

Don't need no state of the art stadium... if anything , our tradition is our biggest potential asset

Our stands are massively outdated. Even the newer 2.

Not for a town club like us that has had very recently had millions spent refurbishing all the Hospitality Areas.

I always thought this was an overly complicated discussion.

There is room to add about 10-12 rows to the Bob Lord on the current footprint, either by adding on to what is there or knocking it down and building a new stand. You could probably squeeze a couple more if they lowered the pitch too, which might make some of the seats in the newer stands more appealing. There is roughly 175-180 seats per row in the Bob Lord, that means 1750-2500 more seats give or take a little depending on the layout.

Then, update and shift the cricket field towards the north stand, you could fill in the two corners, and we have a roughly 25k stadium….maybe a little more depending on how they incorporate boxes etc.

Doing it in that order means the capacity isn’t massively affected while the build is happening.

For me the newer 2 stands are cheap, badly built monstrosities. In an ideal world i'd bulldoze them first and start again but that won't be happening.

They are also weirdly angled to each other (if that makes sense? Always annoyed me that.

I don't see us moving stadium any time soon. I don't think the club could afford to do it for starters - probably looking at £100-150m in today's money. The CF and BL clearly need a lot of work, and ideally rebuilding - we can't keep kicking the can down the road. I mentioned on the CF thread, IF the club could purchase a small strip of land behind the stand it would enable a part rebuild of the stand and roof over the top of the existing structure as Liverpool and City have done ensuring the stand remains in use. The end result a bigger concourse and possibly extra seats. The BL sounds more complicated if it's true about the foundations - again a small increase in capacity, new roof and corporate facilities at the top would really bring the ground into the modern era and more importantly bring extra revenue into the club. The stadium in its current guise just isn't good enough for the level we want to play at.

it has a lot to do with it... New state of the art staduims aint chap and monies need to be recouped ... City teams will attract and can put on many events ... i.e ... Spurs and the NFL and then 50-Cent selling it out etc ...

Would I like a new stadium ? Yeah of course ... but it has to make sense ....

A town team like us doesn't need anything more than 25-28k capacity and as much as I enjoy visiting the bigger stadiums ... in the end ... they all do the same job for watching football ...

It has everything to do with it. The cost of a new stadium is often offset by it hosting gigs and events etc but those are always going to go to Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Blackburn, even Halifax's Piece Hall before they come to Burnley. Even though there's been an increase in football tourism at the Turf, it's never going to be enough to make a justifiable dent and that's before we get to the still pretty poor public transport which serves the town. I do wonder sometimes if Pace/ALK wish they'd invested in a club in a city or on the outskirts of one to match their ideals. Burnley just doesn't have the footfall/culture/transport/population and never will. 25k is the max we need otherwise we face it being half filled. And for 25k, I'm not so sure we need to move to a new site at all.

Very much a "fag packet" drawing but if BCC were just not gonna give up the land, and I agree with others than we just will never do 30K+ regularly, I propose a compromise of
  • Buying some of the BCC land
  • Paying for the relocation of the BCC clubhouse
  • Double tier / kop home stand to replace CPS with corner filled in upto 10k (existing 4k + additional 6K)
  • Right Side North Stand Upper for Away Fans, with Overflow for Lower Tier if needed
  • Access behind CFS for home fans to get on and off rather than being funneled through a tiny area
