However writing clear content with links, using key words etc certainly helps. The proof is in the pudding - the website I work on is on the first page of Google, simple as that.

What's more, keeping a site on the first page of Google can take a great deal of work, particularly for very competitive keywords. If you've not updated your site for years then I'd suggest your keyword isn't that competitive.
I'm not wrong at all. Keeping a site on the first page of Google only takes a great deal of work if you don't know what you're doing - which sounds exactly like you. You're chasing shadows. You aren't thinking, "Hold on - what does Google actually want?"

I've already told you about the keyword by how many searches per month it gets. This highlights how little you know about SEO as the number of searches it gets per month should be at the top of your criteria! The fact that you're not taking this into account just proves how little you know.

I've got a website that gets over 2 million hits a month - via Google. There's no debate here. I can tell you aren't good at what you're doing, simply by what you've said. Someone working in SEO yet ignores the searches per month? Good luck with that one.

"Your response suggests you're upset that I've suggested your keyword isn't that competitive"

The fact that I told you how many searches it gets, tells someone how competitive it is. I find that unbelievable that someone in SEO doesn't realise this. This is why I know you're not very good.

But.. we're both Burnley fans, so I'm happy to leave it be. But give me an FAO when you need some help :-)

Which of the two did you prefer, Spades? I taught English for a few years (in academies in Spain) and it was hard work at times, particularly with the younger kids!

I loved both, Indigo.

The kids were great and I missed them like mad when I gave up school teaching. I gave up because I found I was spending more and more time on paper work and less and less doing what I loved - teaching.

Teaching adults was a wonderful experience. First of all, they wanted to learn. Secondly, I was teaching a subject close to my heart. Also, I have made many life-long friends.

Teacher of English, Head of Years 8 and 9 - and, after a career of forty years and loving almost every day of it - for just one term more.
Mixed feelings about going, it's a fantastic job but time to move on.

Journalist but retired last September. But currently back in my old job part-time as they've lost a couple of staff. I'll be back fully retired for the summer, hopefully. Will complete 45 years in newspapers in July.

Worked for a firm of accountants in Kent for 28 years. Nine years ago became self employed - mainly assisting my wife with her student business and also a bit of accountancy and consultancy work too. Student work is great as it involves finding homes for (mainly German) students coming to England for 4 or 5 night mini stays. Also take groups on guided tours around Whitstable and do quarterly book keeping and monthly payroll for a student hotel in Hastings. Best thing I ever did as, although for 9 months of the year it can be 24/7 it does give us 3 months of doing absolutely nothing !!!

Retired from teaching. Started teaching History in Essex and then moved to Cornwall. Really loved working with 11-18 year olds, enjoyed running a History department, finished as a deputy head and training school director working with trainee teachers ,NQTs and those moving through the threshold etc. Did a lot of work within Cornwall and the South West on Leadership development and was lucky enough to visit schools in Finland, China and Poland.

Career 1. British Army 88-10. VMA (maintaining and repairing tanks and armoured personnel carriers) Reached the dizzy heights of Sergeant in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. Nevertheless, proud of my service.

Career 2. Mechanical maintenance engineer/H&S advisor. 10- present. Installing and repairing industrial baking machinery, and writing risk assessments/method statements to ensure safe completion of work activities.

Sounds grand! Maybe i should re-negotiate???
