If Gray goes who would you like in
Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Shane Long just isn't good enough. Vokes scored as many last season as he's ever managed, we need someone with proven ability (and yes, that does mean spending a lot of money)

Wood or Jerome or Vibe would be on my list of possibilities.

Wood is exactly the same sort of player as Vokes, Barnes and Walters. Jerome do you mean Cameron Jerome??Mala591 wrote:Wood or Jerome or Vibe would be on my list of possibilities.

Cameron Jerome - hell no
Wouldn't mind Kodija (Although he is injured at the mo), Wood or Gayle

Bony on loan is a decent shout. We need pace not another target man.

Can't believe people are touting Bony he has done nothing since he left city. I can guarantee that Dyche would not have him within a million miles of this football club.

Try and buy Ryan Kent on the cheap from Liverpool. Looked a very tidy player in pre-season, not as a replacement for gray as he's a winger but just a suggestion.
Looking like we may have to go abroad to find a genuine goal scorer though

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Bony's more of a big lad than a quick lad, we definitley need someone more in the quick lad mould.
I'd have Long all day, plenty pace, endeavour and aerial threat. I reckon he'd score more than Gray in our side and he'd fit the team well too.
Don't know about another forward, just somoeone quick and probably unproven and on loan. Or Max Gradel? He still out of favour at Bounemouth?
What we should do though, once we've got even more money, let's bully Brentford into selling us Jota. Always makes us feel better taking Brentford's best player.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Not convinced that Long is clinical enough to be what we really need, although his ability to play wide and up front would be attractive. He's on big old wages too.
Mame Biram Diouf might be one shout, who is relatively well established in the Premier League and reportedly not completely happy playing out wide/at wing back from Stoke. Dwight Gayle might be another name in a similar mould. Ings gets touted but his injury record makes him too big a risk on anything but a loan with a view to buy basis. Niasse is a possibility but his record is a bit patchy...etc.
But realistically, it is going to be tough. Even those more modest targets from with the division are going to be on relative fortunes, and there aren't too many players from the Championship who stand our as being ready made replacements. I think ultimately we might be better looking for someone who can give us a real injection of pace on the right wing rather than a centre forward, and looking to play with Vokes as the main striker with Walters or Barnes with him, or Defour and Hendrick in a midfield 3.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Jota is an attacking midfielder, but I'd have him any way. Piddled all over Rovers in the last match of the season, then maybe add a loan of someone who is out of favour at their own club.
Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Quite like the look of Zapata. Has the key ingredients for success in the PL, and what we need: Pace, power, big lad, can handle the loan role if required. Granted he hasn't been banging in the goals but we're unlikely to find a 15-20 goal season striker within our budget. A season loan with an agreed fee/first option next summer if he impresses could be good business.
I like Bony too but is a little similar to what we already have, and wages obviously a massive stumbling block unless City would heavily contribute.
As for Long, maybe last summer but not convinced he's what we need now despite his obvious pace. Whatever (if anything) the club decide to do, it absolutely has to be a good replacement for Andre.

One thing is for sure with Bony is that City would contribute to the wages.
He's probably the prefered option for me, but you have to question why he hasn't done a thing since leaving Swansea.

The suggestions on this thread are either 1) ridiculously unrealistic or 2) underwhelming.
And that says it all.
And that says it all.
Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Moved to the wrong club. Decent and effective player for Swansea, but realistically out of his depth at City in company of Aguero etc. Looks to me to be a decent player for clubs in the bottom half/pushing top half. You would think he'd have more attractive options than us, but it depends how much he values game time.Lancasterclaret wrote:One thing is for sure with Bony is that City would contribute to the wages.

Diouf is a wildcard shout. And would be a good player. But doesnt score enough goals to be a direct striker.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
Long would seem the most likely option based on Ireland, personality and pace. Seems the type Dyche would want.
Then Bony, Ings or another top 6 reserve.
What's for sure is we have a ton of money to throw at it. I wouldn't be surprised if we spent £50m between now and the end of the month, or in January.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
The reason he kept scoring towards the end of the season is because we started crossing the ball at every opportunity from the Palace game. For a change he was attacking the ball instead of having to hold it up with his back to goal. If we keep doing that he will score a lot more than last season.cricketfieldclarets wrote:I love Vokes. Bony will be on 100k plus at City.
I would love him here and he would suit the proposed 451/433 but I am unconvinced we could get him either loan or permanent.

I think we should use the Michael Keane money and develop and build a time machine... pop back to 2006 and buy Gareth Bale from Southampton.
More plausible than some suggestions on here.

Re: If Gray goes who would you like in
It's a tough one because you've got 2 routes to take. The club either goes for option 1 of proven Prem ability and experience woth someone like Long. Or they go for option 2 of a gamble on someone younger with no/limited Prem experience.
Option 1 will lumber the club with a bigger wage and a player expecting to start every week with little to no resale value but you know you're getting someone who'll bag around 10 goals if used regularly.
Option 2 probably comes with a bigger fee but smaller wages, a player wanting to prove themselves and earn the starting spot and potential of resale value. However you have no guarantees and could end up losing the cash on a player scoring few goals.
Assombalonga was an option 2 type but now he's gone do they have any others lined up? I doubt it. (It seems silly that we quibbled over the asking price if we wanted him and have now sold out striker for more money). So IMO the club will likely fall back on an option 1 type player.
The problem with that is, as Dyche often puts it, the Prem is a league of fine margins. Given our dealings this summer I'm not sure a solid, known quantity will be enough to put us on the right side of that margin whereas a gamble may just do it.
From watching a fair bit of European football 2 players I'd throw into the ring are Bobby Wood or Moussa Marega.
Wood is very similar to Gray, better technically but just a little weaker finisher. He'd also be a big commercial opportunity for Burnley to recoup the outlay because of his USMNT status.
Marega would be a big gamble but he has all the qualities that Dyche would like. Worked his way up from lower leagues, big, strong, fast and hard working. Technically a bit poor and his linkup play isn't the best but he could be a revelation (or a flop, granted). Liga NOS is obviously a weak league but players have made that step before.

Wood is similar to Vokes!
And I can't see why we would have to go for just one option of the experienced Prem striker or the young/unproven, if the boot fits then grab one of each , loan out Agyei to the Championship and carry on our progress
