Re: Tarkowski
Yes he made a couple of minor mistakes but look at how much better he played than Luiz and Rudiger who are supposedly world class players!
Sometimes I think people forget these aren't players in computer games. They're only human. The pressure they were under in the last half hour was immense. I could hardly bear watching it- can't imagine trying to play in it!

Chill your t/its!
I see this has brought out the best of the Up the Clarets dichotomy....I didn't intend for this to be a Happy clapper vs Doom mongerer, tit for tat
We've just beat Chelsea FFS - Merely wanted to see what posters thought about ONE aspect of Tarkowski's defending. Win, lose or draw, I'd hope as fans we'd have the capacity to dissect and discuss aspects of our players' games

This.IndigoLake wrote:Tarkowski did a lot right today. Let's also keep that in mind. Made a particularly vital block in the first half. He didn't get much of a run of games last season. Hopefully he will this season and he'll get better and better. However, we do need to keep improving the squad. So I want Shawcross or Dawson. Dawson is unlikely, in my opinion though.
He had a good game overall. But was caught twice and lost his man (the second was particularly soft). However, by then our midfield had pretty much capitulated in the middle - Chelsea were winning everything and the outball to Vokes just wasn't sticking.
I think Tarks will get better the more games he plays. Will he be good enough? who knows but he's got great potential.

Chelsea really improved with Moreta coming on - he's going to score a lot. We won't be the only side to concede a few against them with him to cope with.

Re: Tarkowski
I can't believe so called "Clarets Fans" are trying to pick holes in that performance and singling out players, especially on the 1st match of the season against the Champions , and the player in question being his 1st actual starting 11 start due to him rather than injuries??? Get a grip and give your heads a wobble ffs, there won't be many times this season where you can revel in being proud of your team so make the best if it!

C'mon boys we've just beaten the champions of England and probably one of the top 10 sides in the world at their place,we all make mistakes now and then, but to single a player out is wrong, which in my own opinion is one of the finest victories in our history and before I get slated I wasn't here in the 60s UTC

For 60 odd minutes he was absolutely sensational. Just needs to keep his concentration, hopefully that'll come and if it does we could have a gem.

Michael Keane wasn't Michael Keane until he'd settled into the side. People remember what a great player he was, but forget that he wasn't like that from his first game. Tarks needs time, like everyone else, regardless of profession.

Disappointing mistakes. Hope he learns from them. Willing to give the lad the benefit of the doubt this game. Fantastic result. I was expecting much much worse.

Ben Mee used to always defend well but be at fault for a lot of the goals the more the minutes he got the better he got, same will happen for Tarky be patient.

Re: Tarkowski
Always going to be tough at Chelsea, so it's very harsh to judge anyone on the basis of their performance at Stamford Bridge.
However, purely from the perspective of Kevin Long being next in line and us only having 3 viable centre halves, we do need to sign another.

Re: Tarkowski
I think a certain Michael Keane didn't have a particularly good first game. Hope this Tarks fella turns out to be as shite as him.
All I know is it's a very long time since I rang up Chelsea mates and gloated.
It took most of the season to record an away win last year. We got that monkey off our back early this season.
We've had some shite and difficult times in our past. This is a second consecutive season in the top and we've just beat the champions in their back yard.
I really don't give a rats earhole who made mistakes I'll watch match of the day in a smug zone and enjoy it with a beer.
I ve nearly crapped myself with fear on the lead up to the orient game I prefer the emotion tonight.

Re: Tarkowski
Tarkowski before today had only played with Kevin Long at the back in the Premier league for Burnley. Give him a chance to form a decent partnership with Ben Mee and he will thrive.
Aside from the two switch offs he was very impressive indeed in my opinion, strong, dominant in the air, good tackles and a couple of very important clearances in the box when Chelsea were threatening.
A good start and will get better.

The professionals view. 9/10 second to Sam for MoM.
I thought he was at fault for both goals but mistakes he'll learn from. A call from Lowton could have seen him step up and Morata would have been offside for the first.
Otherwise immense, won everything coming into our box.
Still very early in his PL life and he'll be around for a while.

Just seen the goals again and he should be disappointed with them. Lost his man very easily. By no means writing the lad off he also made some good clearances. It's an unforgiving Leauge.

Tarks looked great in the first half, as though he'd been playing Premier League all his life. Give him time, he will get better.

Re: Tarkowski
He had a great game overall. Yes he lost his man for at least one of the goals but was totally dominant in the first half. People gave Ben Mee a free pass when he was making mistakes and giving away goals and we should give Tarks the same chance. There is a great player in there he just needs time to learn. He has all the attributes [other than pace] be a really top class defender. He is strong, great in the air in both boxes, good touch, great passer, good tackler and blocker what more do you want without spending £30m? Saved us at least a couple of goals today as well.

From TV view Tarks did some good stuff, some not so good.
Hopefully he will learn from his mistakes, Keane did and look where he is now.
Give the guy a chance and I reckon he'll do ok, being part of a team that's just beaten the current PL champions away is a good start
