Homophobic chanting at Stamford Bridge

Post by aggi » Mon Aug 14, 2017 2:23 pm

I've not seen it mentioned on here (although it was pretty obvious on the match) but it has been mentioned in a few other places.

I doubt anyone on here will admit to it but I do wonder what the justification for repeatedly singing "Chelsea rentboys" was in those people's minds? Was it just a bit of "bantz" with no appreciation of how offensive it was or was it reflective of people's views that the best way to insult people is to call them gay?

You'd have thought that the halfwits may have learnt given all the furore over Andre Gray last season but obviously not. At some point this kind of thing will come back to bite a club (either Burnley or another club) on the arse.

Could "bite them on the arse" be construed as homophobic? Just wondering like.

It's the same halfwits who chanted: "He tweets what he likes, Andre Gray, he tweets what he likes."

War chants at modern day Germans and homophobic chants at upper class Londoners. A large element of you're support need to realise its not 1972 any more.

It certainly feels a lot like 1972 with Clarets two divisions higher than Rovers.

A large element of their support does realise its 1995 anymore, which is why they are back supporting "big" clubs again.

Oh Burnerlee got to 2 women, so much so they left a HT.

The group of people near them never stopped effing or jeffing. As well as constantly standing.

I wouldn't sing it Saxo, just like I wouldn't sing the Jack Walker song now, but I did when I was that age.

If this makes any sense. People grow up, and some people grow up and don't change.

I know its not everyone, but it looks like it is the majority on this thread. There is definitely an undercurrent feeling of the far right to an element of your support. I've heard it suggested in the past and can see why.

You know what saxo, you're absolutely right, I mean, roverrrs dwindling fan base have never sung anything pathetic or cringeworthy have they ?

'ya mams ya dad, you're interbred, you Burnley sc-um', how about this insightful little number for starters (best song tunelessly by a boss-eyed chin dribbler from mill hill).

I normally ignore Saxo, because I'm not interested in some of the puerile exchanges he initiates on here.

It's absolutely correct to condemn prejudice such as homophobia, it's disgraceful and within football it inhibits gay players from coming out. This in turn, helps marginalise gay people generally - imagine the impact of a top player coming out and the positive message of acceptance it would send out gay people. Sadly we're not there yet.

However, prejudice comes in many forms. Now I'm not suggesting that the prejudices expressed against us as Burnley fans is even remotely as offensive or hurtful as homophobia, but it is still often offensive. "A large element of you're support need to realise its not 1972 any more." A large element? You know this how? A vocal minority, certainly - but don't label us all with your prejudice.

I'm sure we all know it's not 1972. More to the point, when will you lot realise it's not 1995? That's a rhetorical question by the way - no need to answer. Though if you're wondering, the answer is August 23rd.

I'm sure it was over analysed by most of the fans who went and it ruined everyone's day so that they can't even remember the result or the performance. Idiots shout idiotic things at football and they probably always will do. I doubt it will ever be a sterile environment with non offensive comments. Fans shout derogatory things about women. It's not right be it hasn't lead to female supporters leaving in droves.

Which accounts for why you've got so much time on your hands to analyse the behaviour of other teams football fans. I, on the other hand, are far too busy to worry about anybody else's fans or indeed forum and just bother about my own.

Depending on the boy, surely a rent boy could be rented by either a man or a woman. It is therefore not a slur against homosexual people but a slur against boys selling themselves for sex.

I always assumed that the Chelsea rent boys was (given how long it's been around) more of a nod towards the rather effete manner in which the Chelsea fans acted on the Kings Road back in the 60s and 70s. Perhaps it's more of a transgender issue rather than homophobic per se?

Hi Blackrod, most companies these days have rules about "offensive comments." It's a pity the rules are necessary. We can always try and set the better example and avoid stuff that is offensive, can't we?

I'm sure some saw Gareth Thomas's programme a week ago: Hate in the Beautiful Game. 2500 views - 60 odd posts.

Isn't it about time that homophobic chants at football are viewed in the same way as racist chants are?

Burnley FC are now Premier League. Let's live for now and the future.

The Blackburn idiot is one of the professionally offended snowflakes. I've been watching since the 1960s and these types of chants have always been around. He won't remember Rovers fans singing 'Up On The Roof about Ben Lee because in 1992 he was pretending to support Liverpool, just as he pretends to support Blackburn now. I'm not surprised he's been banned from their message boards as he's a prick of the highest order.

It may be being pedantic and I'm not putting forward a defence on their defence, but linguistically calling someone rent boy is suggesting they are male prostitutes not that they are gay. Women use prostitutes too.
