I have no problem with Christmas Eve games and would be totally happy to see a game or two on Christmas Day. The NFL games at Thanksgiving and Christmas are great!

I can see the argument for no game on Christmas Eve because they're also playing on Boxing Day, but the travel argument isn't really valid given that public transport is worse on Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Maybe christmas eves that fall on a sunday could possibly be considered a family day, but it's a normal working day for those that work, so unless you work with your family then how could it possibly be a family day?

Now how is staging games on Boxing Day, when there is no train service running, more convenient for travelling fans than staging games on Christmas Eve, when there is a full service running, and then a skeleton service?

I think the point is it should be a family day instead of being taken over by yet more commercialism. I won't be attending any football on Christmas Eve even if Burnley are playing. I don't expect others to agree.

Since when has Christmas eve been regarded as a family day? It's never been a public holiday, not at least in modern times.

Yes and everyone is sat around doing **** all from about 11 o clock onwards until it's time to start drinking around 1 ish.

Christmas Eve is a working day, not a family day. There are plenty of posters saying this within this thread.

Maybe it is for some, for others not, but it has never been a football day and even clubs have come out against the potential for moving games to Christmas Eve.

Not sure how anyone can compare with Boxing Day which has always been a football day. I know there are public transport issues on that day, ones that weren't the case years ago, but I think there would be an outcry if people wanted to stop Boxing Day fixtures. Yes, Christmas Eve is a working day for some, albeit a lot less this year with it falling on a Sunday, but the plans were to hold a match into the evening of Christmas Eve which is very much, for many, a family time.

I understand that Paul, but there is one big difference in that all teams have always played on Boxing Day (weather permitting) but Christmas Eve is a date that has not previously been considered for league football, not even when it has fallen on a Saturday.

This was all about challenging the PL & Sky's attempts to move a game (or games) to Christmas Eve from the previous day. Moving of games over a season has to be acceptable because that's where the money comes from, but supporters organisations involved in the Premier League Fans Group campaigned strongly against moving games to Christmas Eve, something I am fully in support of.

Which implies it has everything to do with transport availability.

You've decided to read into that whatever you like. Kevin Miles is absolutely right in what he says in terms of the potential for games to be MOVED. You cannot compare with the other days you mention because they have always been football days. If you don't understand that, you are totally misunderstanding the whole thing.

Surely the implications for us is are that if Man Utd at Leicester is selected to play Christmas Eve at 1.30, would our game against Utd on Boxing day be moved to the 27th and on TV too?

Leicester local paper saying this isn’t being moved.
Although this is because there is a Rugby game on Christmas Eve in Leicester.

Having a northern team play a southern team on Xmas Eve is just daft.
No one would get that upset if Brighton played Bournemouth , or if Derby played Forest for example.

With careful planning it's workable and doesn't need to be written off.

May I add as my final thought on this, football has changed and is still changing, the supporter pitch side (attending) isn't anywhere near as important as the casual football fan watching from his comfy setee, we know this, it's what has made us rich, so why fight It?

We should scrap football on good friday. Easter sunday. And easter monday not forgetting mothers day. All family days. Thankfully fathers days in summer but hopefuly the world cup considers it in future.
