Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
I would be delighted if we signed Shelvey especially if we can get a few other players off the wage bill.
He has a great range of passing and a decent shot. He has loads of experience at the highest level and he has the ability to provide those defence splitting passes. None of our other central midfielders have that type of ability.

Wouldn’t like to say someone is getting mixed up with Shelvey being at the training ground, because that would be quite the mistake to makeblatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 10:01 pmI’m in no way, shape or form saying it’s true but I’ve heard off 2 different people he’s been seen at gawthorpe today.

Rumour. Not saying I’m in the know or anything. I’ve made that mistake before haha. Imagine the lift it would bring to the turf. Him and Ashley Barnes next home game I don’t think I’d be able to not spontaneously combust

This was SDs strength. He got seasoned, senior, British pros in who knew English football and what it takes. Soon as he got lumbered with foreigners it went tits up and no I’ve nothing against foreign players.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Morning papers are saying:
A) Njcassell are looking at Aaron Ramsdale.
B) They want Dubravka to stay.
C) They have sent head of recruitment Steve Nickson to check on Trafford but are not expected to bid this window.
That should cheer up the Trafford fan club.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Bit out of the loop so quick catch-up needed.
Rumours/live gossip I am seeing is
Redmond to Brum
Traff to Newcastle though more likely summer
Shelvey at Gawthorpe and training prior to signing
Tella (not at training ground ) loan with obligation to purchase at 20mill
Delacroix turned down loan move
Steve to Spurs?
Brownhill to Hammers?
Any bit of truth in any of these and what others are being discussed?

Certainly not at 20m.

"When asked if Massengo’s departure leaves the Clarets a little light in central midfield, Parker said: “Yes, we're a little bit short there at the moment and it's probably an area that we'll see if there's anything [in the transfer window..."Mattster wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 12:32 pmWe've got 4. We play 2 and a 10 in front. We've plenty of options there - Massengo has played 122 minutes all season in the league.
And why would Shelvey be considered proper backup when he's not been considered good enough to play more than 202 minutes at Eyupspor this season in a league which for the most part is below Championship level?

Looks like JJS will be Massengo's replacement.

Re: Jonjo Shelvey training at the Turf. Signing imminent?
Lots of discussion on this already in the January transfer thread. But to answer the question - I thought it was a joke at first, but I've really warmed to the idea after reading some convincing arguments and speaking to a Newcastle supporting friend. His long passes look dangerously good. If he's still got it, he'll do well I think.

Big question marks over his effort at Forest. Sounds like he phoned it in, then chose to go out to pasture in Turkey. No thanks, exactly the type of character we don't want.

Re: Jonjo Shelvey training at the Turf. Signing imminent?
I'm willing to give Parker the benefit of the doubt over this one. I was a big fan of Shelvey when he played over here so hope he still has it.
Different players perform better with different managers. Look at Barton under Dyche for example. He's clearly not going to be asked to start every remaining game of this season, but his talent and experience could play an integral part.

I read the entire thing imagining Chris narrating it (he’s a Turfcast regular) and it dulled my enthusiasm for the signing.

Re: Jonjo Shelvey training at the Turf. Signing imminent?
It's not a bad signing, he will be good enough for this level. The only things I worry about now are the finances, as we must be skint with signing him and Barnes. Add to that, all quiet on the contracts of CJ and Brownhill (Roberts seems nailed on to go back to Swansea).
