No one said the club aren't arsed about promotion. We all want it, but there is a reality to what we can achieve.
If you watch the video 'Kompany meets the Lads' on Clarets+, it is clear that it is going to take time. As VK said, it's a lot more complicated than spreading out and making space.
Making sure you don't overload zones of the pitch.
The weight of the pass.
The timing of runs.
The angles of the pass.
Just as SD didn't park the bus, there is a science behind everything we did, and there is a science behind everything that VK wants. He has warned the players that it could take 3, 4 or 5 months to get it right. Rather like driving a car, to the point where you can play the system 'without' thinking about it. WHEN they get it, they will love it, and so will we.
BUT, that takes time, and time means that although we want promotion it will take a very quick learning curve from all the squad, to achieve it. It also means that we fans have to be patient, and support the players when it doesn't quite come off.

Promotion will just get harder each season we stay down. As we will have to sell our best players each season.

As much as Kompany needs time to get his system across we need a quick start.

All I ever see from you is negativity towards our club. Some of it may be warranted but the majority is not, therefore either your a rovers fan or with all due respect and in all sincerity have some issues that you may need to see someone about.

We'd love a quick start, but as Forrest showed last season it isn't essential. I believe, or hope, that after the world cup break, we could be flying. IF we are within the top half of the table at that point, our chances will improve drastically.
Fulham walked the league last season and lost about 10 games. Most teams that go up have a similar stat. The only 2 clubs that stand out as different are ourselves and Leicester. We've only lost 5 games in each of our last 3 seasons at this level. I don't believe the Championship is as good now as it was then, so even with an average run, I can't see us being cut adrift.

We've spent less than 10 seasons in the top flight since the 60's, we've no divine right to be there and a completely new team with loads of young lads in is going to take time to gel. I was more pointing to your comments about promotion. I still think we have to get promoted this season. It’s got be our best chance of getting back.

But in the same respect Vegas we have just had 6 seasons of prem football and all that brings financially and the quality of player we have gone down with. We are in a much more advantageous position to go up than the majority of clubs in the championship.

I think it is realistic to expect promotion and it has to be a target whislt the finances are there.

Agree completely. Pace literally said he could have appointed someone who might have been seen as more ‘immediate promotion’ type, but he felt VK was a far better fit overall for what they want and their vision. VK has since said they will go for promotion but it isn’t an absolute necessity. Bellamy I think said we’ll be going for promotion. It’s clearly the aim, but ‘expecting’ it isn’t the right attitude - there are some good teams knocking around going for the same spots, who haven’t had such a huge squad turnover.

Difference between being positive and ‘expecting’ a certain result, especially a result we are currently outsiders to achieve, looking at the betting. I personally think we’ll be up there, in the mix, but still need to wait and see what more business we do (ins and outs).

That’s two different things in my mind.

I’m expecting promotion, whether we achieve that or not is another matter.

No my expectation is to see a more positive, attractive playing style and finish in the top 6 - I believe we’ve got the squad to do that.

Great post. A sense of realism is important here. I think we'll be there or thereabouts, but it's going to be a long hard slog against some very good teams. Can't wait to get started.

Probably from reading all your posts!!!! You said we were likely not going to be promoted now on the day we sold Collins?

Seriously though, it matters not one jot what the fans "personal targets" are for this season. We have absolutely no influence beyond making a bit of noise. Just sit back and enjoy it.

We've had fans pushing against the new owners from day one and some still are and will continue to do so for a few years yet I think

Personally, I think the squad is one, possibly two players short, most obviously up front. I think Jay in particular has a huge role to play (he's a much better player when the ball is played to feet and his movement has always been very intelligent, and he'll do all that but still provide the physical focal point that is essential in the Championship) and I think Barnes will be a really good option for us. But without having yet seen a Kompany side play, this very narrow 4-4-2/4-2-2-2 logically requires a forward with the pace to make in-to-out runs to stretch teams and create space. We've still got Cornet who is lively (if not lightening fast) but he's at his best playing from out-to-in, starting wide. Of course - that's exactly what Vydra excelled at, so it's still possible that he's in mind for that role, but otherwise I'm a little unsure whether they'll be the pace in the team to make the most of the intelligent footballers Kompany has amassed.

The other weakness would still seem to be the lack of experience at the heart of defence, and I'm not surprised we're still being linked with yet more centre backs. That business has been a little odd so far to my mind.

All in all, the squad does look strong in plenty of areas - midfield, full back (clearly a vital role in Kompany's system and I suspect we might see plenty of rotation in those positions given the 2 games a week cycle in the Championship) and at least for now, in the wide midfield/attacking midfield positions (where we have Cornet, McNeil, Twine and Gudmundsson before considering Bastien and Brownhill). But it is still a little unbalanced, lacks a bit of pace, and given the turnover of players and lack of experience at the back, I still think it's impossible to judge how things will pan out. It's all something of an experiment.

No it won't, if fans have pushed since day one then they'll continue to do so until the owners sell up, see Utd and the Glazer out loonies for proof of that.

They'll quieten down for a bit if we get promoted quickly, but once we've settled back into being a lower end PL team then the grief will start again, it's quite predictable.

I'm still expecting that O'Hare and probably Delap will come in at some point. I just feel they're simmering somewhere and will eventually come back to the fore. We've clearly gone beyond simple "enquiries" and got a way down the line, especially with O'Hare and like Muric, it's never over, even when it seems to have gone quiet.

You do realise the club cant stop it right, transfers and at an academy level work differently to senior as a result they can take him and pay a compensation fee and we cant say know which is what has happened thompson wasnt involved at all in pre-season so Kompany clearly doesnt rate him, dont whinge over an academy player leaving who you have probably never seen play and who certainly isnt a star.

I wasn't thinking about the untried. I was looking at alm the articles relating to our first reamers, who all appear to have a price to go.

I think people are being a bit disrespectful to Jay. He is a good footballer and good finisher. He never really slotted into the Dyche 442 in my mind but knuckled down and got on with it. I'm interested to see how he does under a different style where he isn't expected to be running the channels. I think he'll do well this year.

Well, perhaps I should have said 'guaranteed', but generally, yes!

They're a bunch of unknowns with potential, League One and Premier reserve players plus the mostly low level Prem/good Championship players that have remained at the club. Then of course we have an almost rookie manager who has ripped up the former manual that Burnley have used to play the last few years for some system that appears untested in the UK. I'm not saying all this didn't need doing. I agree it may be exciting, at least until, the first match and perhaps the whole season as a team and manager develop before our eyes. But it's no guarantee for promotion.

I can't remember a July when I haven't thought we were about to start an unbeaten season; though I'll concede that it took effort to maintain the belief when we were in the Premier League.

At the end of the day Forest can bid 40 million all up front but it's Cornet who decides if he goes or not, if they come in and I was Cornet I'd say match that 200k a week or do one
